OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE During Advent we have the opportunity to realize the deeper purpose of

gift-giving through the custom of having a Giving Tree in our church.

The Ministry of Care, the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul, St. Theresa Women’s Club, and the children from St. Theresa School and Religious Education arrange to have certificates for food, clothing or toys placed in the Christmas baskets which will be distributed on December 16th this year. The Giving Tree can help to link Christmas gift-giving to the Christian love that marks all those who follow the One born at Bethlehem.

HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP! 1. Take an envelope from the Giving Tree in our Gathering

Area. Put your gift in the envelope. The gift can be cash, a gift certificate or a check made out to: St. Theresa Ministry of Care.

2. Return your envelope in the regular collection basket or drop it off at the Pauline Center.

3. We will buy a gift certificate from Eurofresh, Target, Jewel, or Payless Shoes.

4. The gift certificate will be placed in the Assist-A-Family Christmas baskets for the needy in our parish and the surrounding community to be distributed on December 16th in the church Gathering Area.

OR... YOU CAN HELP A LOCAL FAMILY THROUGH OUR CHRISTMAS

ASSIST-A-FAMILY BY GIVING THE GIFT OF FOOD! We have a list of families in need whose Christmas celebration could be enhanced by either the gift of food or the gift of “all the fixins” for a holiday dinner. Jewel or Eurofresh gift certificates are also very welcome.

We invite you to call: Donna Russ at 847-359-4064 or Deacon Norys at 847-358-7760 for more information.

Our holiday baskets will be distributed on Saturday, December 16th in the church Gathering Area.

Dear Parishioners, This year we have shared one of the greatest gifts — the ability to be a blessing to

others. Thank you for taking an envelope from the GIVING TREE. Your generous gifts and donations go a long way in helping spread the joy of CHRISTMAS...both in the lives of others and your own life. May God bless you for sharing your blessings and

may you have a Blessed New Year! Deacon Stephen Norys, Ministry of Care

A Message from Our Pastor, Fr. Tim Fairman

Page 3

Dear Friends,

I’d like to share a few odds and ends this week:

You may have noticed the hymnal monitors in the church were not functioning last weekend. The day before Thanksgiving, a transformer blew and we were without power for some time. When the power came back on later that day, the monitors were not working. We’ll see what we can do to get them repaired or replaced. It’s amazing how dependent we’ve become on them in so short a time!

The Marian Shrine is temporarily vacant as work continues to prepare for the new statue which will grace our shrine soon! Fr. Matt has done a great job coordinating this effort, but I invite you to be patient as the process continues. The first step was moving the Blessed Mother statue to its new location. Then the wood frame was disassembled, the space was painted and a few ceramic tiles were repaired. Next, the new wood frame will be created, more painting will be done, new lighting installed and then our new statue will be unveiled! I am very excited about this and know you will love the new shrine! It may take a few months for the creation of the shrine to be completed, so in the meantime…

… there is a small shrine that has been created with votive candles and an icon of Madonna with Child. It is located in the vestibule to the right of the Divine Mercy mosaic by the priest/deacon sacristy. Please leave your offering there to help pay for the candles.

The statue of the Blessed Mother that was located in the shrine in the church is now residing in its new home in the courtyard by the Dolan Center entrance to the church. It looks beautiful there! It’s a great place to sit on one of the benches and offer prayerful reflection. It can also be viewed through the glass adjacent to the courtyard in the gathering space of the church.

The statue of the Madonna with Child has been moved to its new home by the Benton Street entrance to the Church. I’ve been told that this statue was donated with the provision that the Blessed Mother look out over our school and bless our children. That is accomplished in its new home.

The St. Theresa statue was then moved to its new home by the drive off of Benton Street. Landscaping will beautify the area around the statue come spring. We chose that location for a few reasons: the statue really stands out there, and gives people another place on campus to spend some time in prayer and its new location serves as a landmark for people visiting our campus, so that when giving directions we can say, “turn onto the drive where St. Theresa is!” :)

In addition, all three statues were given a thorough cleaning and all look like new!

As we begin our Advent Season, I’d like to invite you to mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 19th at 7:00 pm in the church for our traditional Advent Evening of Reflection. Please see the bulletin for more details, but Fr. Matt and Laura Kutscher are planning an evening of reflection and music that will be an opportune way to prepare for the birth of our savior on Christmas. You will be glad you were here for this evening. Also, the Advent Reconciliation Service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 20th at 7:00 pm in the Church.

Enjoy the week and God bless you all.
