More Meeting Photo'sIf the annual planning meeting on Jan. 9 was any

indication, 2016 is shaping up to be an exciting and transformative year for ZONC.

Ann Devor and Paul Gommel are planning to kick off the run season with their annual CONtra COsta Cruise on March 12. This event is always expertly organized and not to be missed.

The ever-popular april FOOls rallye, organized by Bob Jenkins, will follow on April 3.

In April or March, I am organizing a trip to Harley Farms GOat Dairy on the San Mateo County coast. With any luck, this event will coincide with the arrival of the latest batch of baby goats.

Mary Rozmajzl and Ken Clark also have a pair of events in the works: An overnight trip to FOrt BraGG on May 21-22 and a run to COlumBia state park in Gold Country sometime in September.

We'll conclude the run season in October with a drive to Scotts Valley to ogle BruCe CaNepa's car collection.

There is, of course, much more planned, including the annual ZONC CAR SHOW. We are even looking into the possibility of returning to the Blackhawk Automotive Museum, a popular venue in years past.

Speaking of car shows, ZONC is also planning to make an appearance at saNtOs in Alviso in September.

In addition to hosting a slew of exciting events in 2016, ZONC is hoping to expand its ranks, possibly through free one-year memberships. Of course, we wouldn't be the organization we are today without our current members and we are exploring ways to reward you.

On a related note, keep your eyes peeled for a membership survey in the coming weeks. Your feedback will be used to improve ZONC.

Even as we look to inject new blood into ZONC, it's important that we recognize our roots, including the fact

that a whopping 34 of our members own 240Zs. The next popular models are the 300ZX with 10 owners, the 350Z with nine owners and the 370Z with five owners.

Thanks for reading. See you on the road soon.

Long Ago in ZNEWSFebruary 1988

By Bob JenkinsOn the cover was an article about the ZONC Banquet,

which was held in Pleasant at the Pleasant Hilton Hotel, and even had a dance floor put in just for them. A statement from Alan Hirotani said "each year this event gets better". A total of $1,200 in Door Prizes were given out.

Also on the cover where announments for new club store items and that ZONC was looking for new Area Coordinators for several counties.

There was a full page of Congratulations to the 1987 award winners, with Alan Hirotani taking Outstanding Area Coordinator, Best Event was Rick Cassell, and lots of autocross winners, plus another two full pages of Thank Yous to Sponsors

There was a small flyer for a ZONC trip to Disneyland on Memorial Day Weekend where they were to meet up with Group Z. There was also a full-page flyer for a ZONC Goes Skiing trip to Sierra ski ranch in March on a bus.

A Tour Ideas article by Alan Hirotani talked about some of the ideas for the coming year and included a Delta Tour, a tour to the Long Beach Grand Prix, runs to races at Laguna and Sears Point, a trip to Virginia City and Reno to the Harrah's Auto Collection, runs to Apple Hill, the Winchester Mystery House, and Roaring Camp & Big Trees.

The 1988 ZONC Officers were Mike Voss, President, Ron Swinkels, Vice President, Bob Tupper, Secretary and Carol Voss Treasurer.

On Sunday, April 3, 2016 Empire Sports Car Association will present its 52nd Annual April Fools Rallye, starting from Snoopy's Home Ice, 1667 W. Steele Lane, in Santa Rosa. This year's (40-45 mile) rallye route will be in the Western area (Sebastopol – Graton) of Sonoma County and the finish will be at the Round Table Pizza Parlor on Marlow Road in Santa Rosa.

ZONC's ZNEWS editor will return for his 51st time as the Rallymaster of this year's event.

There are awards in 6 classes from Master Expert to First Timer, and the first 40 cars to enter will receive a dash plaque.

Contra Costa Delta CruiseSaturday, March 12, 2016

By Ann DevorThe Contra Costa Cruise will go to the Delta on Saturday,

March 12 with an area start at Autocom Nissan of Concord at 1290 Concord Ave. The area start will take off at 9 a.m. and travel across the Benicia Bridge to meet other drivers at the Chevron station at the Cordelia junction of I-80 and I-680. The Cruise will officially start from there at 10 a.m. We will travel 117 total round trip miles from Concord and back to I-680 with plenty of driving fun and sightseeing along the way as we venture onto four islands and across seven bridges.

Autocom Nissan of Concord is fully on board hosting the Concord area start and has offered to have coffee and refreshments ready for us. The dealership is under new ownership and Paul Voskes, our host in the Service Dept. tells us that they now have upgraded equipment and tools to better service our cars. Drivers starting in Concord will need to have FASTRAK or pay a toll at the Benicia Bridge.

We will have a no-host lunch at Al’s Place, 13943 Main St. in the Locke Historic District of Walnut Grove. Originally a Chinese enclave, Locke has been saved from the sands of time by somewhat hidden efforts at preservation. After lunch, the Cruise will return to Concord with convenient side routes home for those cars wishing to return to Solano or Sacramento Counties.

Please RSVP to [email protected] no later than March 5, 2016 to make sure you are included for goodie bags, lunch and any other St. Patrick’s surprises for the day.
