Before our next meeting at the Columbus Club on September 12, we will be holding the officer installation ceremony on Sunday, Sep. 8, at Sacred Heart Parish in Winchester. For those who are not officers but who would like to attend, please wear a dark suit (black, gray, or blue), white shirt, social baldric on top of regular tie, and black socks and shoes. The official 4th degree lapel pin is to be worn on the left lapel, and a name tag can be placed in the pocket. Of course, wives are welcome. We are having a dinner afterwards at the Picadilly Brew Pub in Winchester , 125 E. Picadilly spaces for about 25 in an area that will give us some degree of privacy. Meals are payable by each person or couple. We will need to discuss who will be heading our standing committees during this new year: social, fund raising, and membership. Our Color Corps Commander, SK Jerry Clark, has said he will continue in that role as well as leading the Color Corps. Within the fund-raising area, we need several members to act as lead on the sub sandwich sale, the spaghetti dinner next spring, and the 50-50 raffle that is part of the spaghetti dinner effort. Of course, ideas for other types of fund-raising are always welcome. While the new procedures for regular Council meetings have been changed - they do not require a report from the 4th degree representative, I will continue to try to show up at council meetings to recruit 4th degree members. Because of the new uniform rules, particularly allowing the wearing of dark suits and the modifications to Color Corps/Honor Guard procedures, it should make it

Navigator’s Message Sir Knights,

Here’s hoping everyone had a wonderful summer.

Meals are payable by each person or couple.

possible to expand our cadre of members. As an Assembly, we should not be in a position of having to turn down requests from our pastors when it comes to service at wakes, funerals, confirmations, blessings/dedication of parish buildings, and outside Color Corps requests. So please talk to your colleague Knights who have not yet gotten the 4th degree. I am personally making an effort to recruit new members from my parish Council 9002.

In addition, if you are retiring from work in the near future, please consider attending our meetings and getting into the Color Corps or other Assembly activities.

VJ,

Jim

Archdiocese for Military Services U.S.A. (AMS)

Currently 285 Catholic military chaplains provide pastoral care to over 1.5 million Catholics on ships, in combat, on bases and in 153 VA hospitals, but more are needed. The AMS Seminarian program identifies vocations and is now educating 30 men for the priesthood and subsequent military chaplaincy. The AMS has no parishes from which to obtain financial support and relies solely on donations. For more information and to donate, go to the AMS web site at www.milarch.org/ .
