Basin Components

This is the basin layout showing most of the

components that make up the user functions of the Pedi-spa chair.

The picture left shows the left & right feet support for the customer to rest their foot on whilst having their treatment.

Visible at the top of the picture is the multi-coloured LED lamp used in conjunction with the whirlpool function to give light therapeutic relaxation during the soak element of the customers pedi-treatment. The remaining components are shown below for your easy viewing.

To the right is the main inlet ‘MIXER’ tap. To use, simply Lift to allow water to flow. To cease water flow, simply Push the lever down until it stops. When filling the bowl It is recommended to semi fill the basin with cold water Initially and then add hot water to mix to the desired Temperature (see operational & safety guidelines pages 4-6)

The Picture Left, shows the following components, - All which are explained in further detail on the next

page. -

Basin Components

The main On/Off buttons shown left, are vacuum operated switches for the whirlpool function and the power drain function. The power-drain function is available as an option and may not be on your SK-901 Pedi-spa chair, depend on the version you have chosen (a/b or c). To operate, simply push to activate (once plug is open) and then push again to deactivate.

POWER DRAIN WHIRLPOOL OPEN The image to the right shows the pipe-less whirlpool massage system used in your Pedi-spa this is the industry preferred type of circulator due to its inherent advantages for greater hygiene, simplicity and ease of cleaning. To open the circulating pump for cleaning, simply twist the outer casing in a clockwise direction, as shown. After cleaning replace the outer case and tighten by turning in an anti-clockwise direction. CLOSE

To open the basin plug, turn in an anti clockwise direction you may then start the power drain. Once the basin is empty, switch off the power drain and then close the drain plug in a clock wise direction ready for the next fill and treatment.

The shower head handset may be withdrawn from its holder up to a length of 500mm for easy wash down. You may change the output of the shower head by switching from ‘shower spray’ to ‘single jet pour’. To switch between the two outputs, simply click the headset switch to the left or right, for the desired output.

Page 13: SK-901 & SK-901b user guide

Operation It is advisable to ‘pre-fill’ the Pedi-spa basin prior to client use to ensure the correct operating temperatures are obtained for safety reasons, prior to the client entering the water. This can be done prior to the client being seated, or by ensuring the clients feet are on the foot rests at all times during filling, and you should only allow them to place their feet into the hot water once you ‘the operator’ are satisfied that the temperature is correct. Once the client is seated you may pass them the handset for operating the seat massager unit. They can then select their desired area and style for massage. For ease of use they can simply select the ‘auto’ function on the handset, which is a preset timed & massage program. Once the client is seat and comfortable, and their massage is under way, you may introduce the appropriate treatment ‘products’ to the basin and begin the whirlpool massage function by pressing the whirlpool power button (see basin guide). Always ensure ‘non-foaming’ products are used (see safety guide) to prevent accidental overflow from the basin. Once you have conclude the ‘pedicure’ treatment, turn off the whirlpool massager (see basin guide) and open the plug drain. Once you have opened the plug to allow outflow, you may switch on the ‘power drain’ (when fitted) to commence evacuation of the waste water. Once the basin is completely empty, switch of the power drain by pressing the switch again, at which point you will hear the power drain pump go silent. Always ensure the whirlpool massager and power drain pump are not left running whilst the basin is empty. This is to prevent any accidental damage to your Pedi-spa components due to ‘dry running’, which will not be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty conditions. Before the client is dried and leaves the seat position, always ensure the chair massager function is switched off. Firstly switch off the auto/power button on the handset. If the chair is not to be used again for some time, switch off the power to the chair using the power button on the rear of the seat back. The chair is now ready to be cleaned for use again, by the next client. Once the chair has been cleaned and sanitized (see easy cleaning guide) record the cleaning details in the Pedi-spa cleaning log, ready for inspection should it be requested. It is not always mandatory to keep cleaning logs, but we suggest that you contact your local authority to confirm you regional requirements regarding this issue. Even if you are not legally required to keep a cleaning log, we highly recommend that you do, to ensure a regular cleaning and sanitisation regime that will ensure continued trouble free service. In any cleaning record log, always record cleaning activity for post treatment; end of day, and for weekly ‘deep clean’ procedures. All operators should fully acquaint themselves with the functions, cleaning procedures and safety aspects of the Pedi-spa whirlpool chair prior to any use. Adherence to the manufacturer’s user, cleaning and safety guidelines will ensure years of trouble free treatments for you and your clients. It should be noted that the more effective your cleaning and maintenance regime is, the greater the longevity of your pedicure spa chair will be. Failure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for usage and cleaning will result in a decrease to the serviceable lifespan of your Pedi-spa and may also invalidate your manufacturer’s warranty terms and conditions if discovered on inspection, which in turn, could ultimately prove costly for you to rectify.

Pedicure Product Usage Guidelines

Due to the vast variation of available pedicure products on the market, it is difficult to list all of the known products that are safe to use in your pedicure spa. However, the following general guidance notes should be followed to ensure safe usage and to avoid damaging your Pedi-spa:

• It is your responsibility to obtain, acknowledge and implement your local, regional and

national hygiene regulations regarding the Pedi-spa cleaning and disinfecting requirements.

• Do not use any type of products containing foaming agents; these will cause excessive foam build up and may result in ‘overflow’ or damage to your chairs internal pumping and electrical systems, and voiding your warranty.

• Through manufacturer testing it has been determined that products containing non-dissolving abrasives (such as sand and sea salts) should not harm the internal component structure of your pedicure spa as long as the entire cleaning procedures required by the manufacturer are followed without deviation.

• Oil based products may be used in your pedicure spa as long as the cleaning procedures are fully complied with.

• Please use pedicure products and cleaning solutions in accordance with each manufacturer's directions.

• Never use any form of acetone or acetone based fluid for internal or external cleaning and sanitising.

Cosmetronic approved Pedi-spas will give you many years of service as provided the proper safety and user precautions are adhered to with regards to precise cleaning and operating instructions are followed. It is the responsibility of the pedicure spa user/owner to properly clean and maintain the pedicure spa to ensure full warranty compliance.

Easy cleaning and disinfecting of your Pedi-spa system

Always check with your health & safety/trading standards department for compliance with the required cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

It is extremely important to clean and disinfect your pedicure spa after each pedicure, after the last pedicure of the day, and once a week for overnight cleaning. Regular cleaning will help keep your pedicure spa in good working condition. Proper and continuous cleaning will kill harmful bacteria and germs that can cause infection. To clean your pedicure spa, follow these 3 easy steps.

(A) Procedures for Cleaning and Disinfecting Pipe-Free Pedicure spas

After each client use, each Pipe-Free Pedi-spa mus t be cleaned and disinfected in the following sequence:

(1) All water shall be drained from the spa basin. (2) Remove 2 piece inlet housing & impeller. (3) Scrub all visible residues from the inlet housing, impeller, inside walls of the basin, and/or

other components and the areas behind or under each with a clean brush and liquid soap (labeled as such on soap product) and water. Then rinse with clean water.

(4) Then reinsert the properly cleaned inlet housing & impeller, (5) Refill the basin with clean warm water and circulate (pump through system) the correct

amount (read manufacturers label for mixing instructions) of the local authority approved liquid disinfectant, which the product label confirms is a bactericide, fungicide, and virucide, and then circulate through the basin for at least 10 minutes.

(6) Drain, rinse and then wipe the basin dry with a clean disposable paper towel. (7) It is advisable that this procedure is recorded in a pedicure-cleaning log. The log should

contain the date and time of each cleaning, initials of the person who completed the procedure, and indicate which product was used for sanitization, and that the cleaning was performed after client use, ready for the next customer to inspect upon request.

Page 15: SK-901 & SK-901b user guide

(B) End of Day Procedures for Cleaning and Disinfecting

At the end of every day and after performing the procedures provided in subsection (b) (1 through 6) and after the last client, each pipe-free pedicure spa shall be cleaned and disinfected in the following sequential manner:

(1) Fill the foot basin with warm water and detergent (mixed as per the manufacturer’s instructions

on product label) and circulate through the spa system for at least 10 minutes. (2) Drain the detergent solution and rinse the basin with the shower head and then drain. (3) Refill the basin with clean water and add the correct amount of local authority

approved liquid disinfectant, (read the manufacturers label for mixing instructions) which the product label confirms is a bactericide, fungicide, and virucide agent, and then circulate through the basin for at least 10 minutes.

(4) Then drain, rinse, and wipe the basin dry with a clean disposable paper towel. (5) Then allow the basin to dry completely. (6) Then, record this procedure in the pedicure-cleaning log. The log should contain the date and

time of each cleaning, initials of the person who completed the procedure, and indicate which product was used for sanitization, and that the cleaning was performed after client use, and shall indicate that the cleaning was conducted at the end of the day, ready for immediate use the following day.

(C) End of Week Procedures for Cleaning and Disinfecting

At least once each week, after completing the procedures provided in subsection (B, 1 through 3), the disinfectant solution should be left in the pipe-free system of the Pedi-spa should not be drained until the following sequence of procedures has been followed:

(1) The whirlpool system should be switched off, allowing the disinfecting solution to be left in the unit undisturbed for 6 to 10 hours (normally overnight, so as to prevent any down-time during working hours).

(2) After the disinfectant solution has been sitting between 6 to 10 hours, rinse thoroughly wi th c lean water and wipe the basin dry with a clean disposable paper towel.

(3) Then-record this procedure in the pedicure-cleaning log. The log should contain the date and time of each cleaning, initials of the person who completed the procedure, and indicate which product was used for sanitization. The log-containing the details of the cleaning after each client use, end of day cleaning and end of week cleaning, should be readily available for inspection by clients or for local health authority personnel upon request.

Not all regional authorities stipulate maintaining cleaning compliance logs. However, we strongly advise you to maintain some form of cleaning log for your own peace of mind.
