Commodore John Barry Assembly #712 Fourth Degree
FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT
Brother & Sister Columbiettes,
I would like to thank Brian O’ Keefe for all his work as GK for the last year.
As your GK I am looking forward to working with all our members to make this a memorable year for our
council. Together with my officers one of our main goals it to get new members. This can only be achieved
with help from everyone. If you know of anyone who would like to join please contact me or any of the council
officers.
On Friday August 9th @ 7PM we will hold our C & B BBQ. This is a great way to raise funds for our
many charitable events we run at our council throughout the year. I would like to thank Brother Gil Mendez for
chairing the C & B Drive. Our BBQ will be run by four of our younger members: Anthony Arnone, Daragh
Quinn, Charlie Rocco & John Quinn Jr. Please make every effort to come out & show your support on
Friday. Your $10 entrance fee gives you 12 chances to win a total of $50,000. It promises to be a great night!!
For more information see the flyer on page 8 of the Navigator.
On Saturday Sept. 28th we will have our Installation of Officers for Knights & Columbiettes. Our
evening starts with 5PM Mass @ St. Fidelis immediately back to the council for the Installation. Again we are
asking for your support. Food and refreshments will be served after the ceremonies. Thank you to Mike
Palumbo for chairing this event.
Congratulations to District Deputy Bob Graziano on his appointment as Chairman of the Board of
District Deputies & also to Bob Doucet on his appointment as District Deputy of the 28th District.
I would like to wish all our members and their families a happy and safe 2nd half of the summer and
look forward to meeting you all at the council in the near future.
God Bless John Quinn – Grand Knight
FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Columbiette Sisters and Brother Knights,
I hope that all of you are doing well and that everyone is enjoying their summer. A quick reminder,
please remember to check on the elderly and infirmed during the very hot days of the season. Most of us have
neighbors that could probably use some assistance and are too proud to ask so find it in your hearts to make a
little time to reach out to them. I'm certain they would appreciate it.
I would like to congratulate the newly elected Officers and I wish each of you much success. May God
guide each of you as you carry out the duties of your office. On behalf of the Columbiettes I would like extend
our commitment to once again work alongside our Brother Knights so that we can become increasingly
successful in our endeavors to God, family and community.
Sister Columbiettes, I encourage you to support the Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes of St.
Ambrose Council and take note of the upcoming events published in this issue of the Navigator. SAVE THE
DATE: Our annual Halloween Party will take place on Saturday, October 26th at the council so look for
additional information that will be forthcoming as the event draws nearer.
Please take care of yourselves and each other and I look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming events.
God Bless you all,
Mia Coppola

We welcome our new State Deputy Carmine V. Musumeci
And wish him all the best on his new position.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The following article was printed in the Catholic New York on 7/10/2013.
Manhattan Knight Elected State Deputy; Cardinal Dolan to Serve as State Chaplain
Carmine V. Musumeci, a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, has become the first Manhattan parishioner in more
than 30 years elected as State Deputy of the Knights’ New York State Council.
The State Council also announced that Cardinal Dolan has agreed to serve as State Chaplain, ministering to Knights and
Columbiettes, a women’s group, and their families.
The election took place in early May at the organization’s annual state convention at the Marriott Westchester in Tarrytown.
Musumeci, a 30-year member of the Knights of Columbus, belongs to Marquette Council 157 at the Chapel of Sacred Hearts of
Jesus and Mary on Manhattan’s East Side. A practicing attorney, he most recently served as counsel to the State deputy and earlier was
State Advocate for the Knights of New York state, which have more than 90,000 members in some 500 councils.
As State Deputy for 2013-14, Musumeci told CNY he planned to “continue to support Catholic schools” through initiatives with
the archdiocese’s Inner-City Scholarship Fund. Already on the calendar, he said, is a baseball fundraiser at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 20.
During a brief interview, he also spoke about a matching grant program where the State Council will match grants of up to $500 from
individual councils to Catholic schools.
Musumeci is a product of the Catholic school system, graduating from Xavier High School in Manhattan and then Fordham
University before attending New York Law School. He was
admitted to the bar in 1982.
Other state officers are: Charles Robinson, Secretary, Norfolk; John Joseph, Treasurer, Lake Grove; Frank Bagley, Advocate,
Belle Harbor; and Robert Weitzman, Warden, Endicott.
Fraternally,
Carmine Musumeci State Deputy New York See more at: http://www.newyorkknights.com/#sthash.F2O3gId4.dpuf
PSD Salvatore Restivo has been to our council many
times during his term of office. He has reorganized
the State Council into now operating in the black.
He has re-organized theC & B program into a
complete charitable program again. During his term
he handled the flooding in upstate NY as well as the
Sandy storm in the Long Island area. He as allotted
many emergency funds from the State Council into
our area for reliefs efforts to Brother Knights and
Sister Columbiettes. Four or our members received
emergency funds that were sent from Supreme, State
and the Long Island Chapter totaling over $130,000
to members. These funds were administered
through the Long Island Chapter. Sal has worked
very hard during his two year term as State Deputy.
It would be great if our council would honor him for
his hard work and dedication to our
Order, State, and our Council by participating in his
Testimonial Dinner.
MALAVE FAMILY UPDATE: We would like to thank all our members of the Knights and Columbiettes who have worked so hard on our
Pasta Night Fundraiser and who have donated to the Malave family. Carlos and his family have returned home
from Florida. They are recovering and are working on moving forward. Grand Knight John Quinn & District
Deputy Bob Graziano presented the family with the financial assistance raised by our council. We ask you to
keep them in your prayers.
After the accident on Holy Saturday, our council contacted councils in Florida to help make contact and
help the family. We did not expect the response that we received form the councils in Florida. The Grand Knight
Joseph Solenski of Pope John Paul Council #13900 was the first to respond to our request. He immediately went
to the hospital to check on the family. He responded that as each member of the family will be discharged from
the
hospital they will need a place to stay. It would be a long time before Brother Knight Carlos would be discharged
from the hospital. Then he will be admitted into rehab. The Bothers in Florida along with FDD Jerry Woodward
of council #6108 led this massive effort and mobilized their members in several councils. They secured a home
for the family to live in for as long as needed rent free. All utilities were provided free. They arranged for
Catholic Charities to furnish the home. Members provided food and meals as well as transportation for family
members to & from the hospital. The State Deputy of Florida and the First Lady also visited the Malave family in
the hospital and help provide some financial assistance as well as the councils in Florida.
Special note:
We were informed that FDD Jerry Woodward has taken very ill and was hospitalized. He is not home recovering.
Please keep him in your prayers.
Here are some of the pictures from Florida of the members working on the house and some of the pictures of the
Pasta Night held in our council.
If you have not donated and will like to help you may make a donation on line at our web site
collegepointkofc.com and click the pay-pal logo or send a check payable to St. Ambrose Council and make the
envelope Relief Fund. Any questions contact Bob Graziano 718-938-0114 for information.
We are so proud of all the response from our Knights and Columbiettes. This what this organization is all about.
Thank you for all that you have done. John Quinn Grand Knight & Bob Graziano Chairman
