The Briere : - is a fragile inhabited zone
- has a remarkable patrimony (cultural and natural)
It has been created the 16th of October 1970
All the protagonists have signed their agreement into the chart, to follow a project (with different orientations and objectives)
Why a regional park?
Description of the park:
The park: 40000 ha (including 19000 ha of wet lands)
The Grande Briere marsh: 7000 ha surrounded by the Brivet marsh

2/ Traditions:
- Until the middle of the XIX’s century: brieran lived quite independently

- Industrialization came and tradition were mostly abandoned.

1/ Concrete actions:
- Dredging of stretches of water.
-Construction of eel “passes”.
- Encouraging farmers to chose extensive rearing and reaping.
-Using the products of the marsh.

2/ Ecotourism:
- Environmental classes are organized.
- 250 km of path in circuits have been made.
-Traditional villages, the lock keeper house and an animal park have
