    President’s Message

    Juanita Fast

I am very proud to be elected for another term as president of the LBMG Car Club. I would like to thank the Board of Governors for their support. It is impossible to execute the duties of president without the help and support of the Board of Governors and the membership. March 18th is Time Bandits Rallye to Laughlin. This is the rally through the desert with long stretches of nothing. Those straight roads can almost put you into a trance and that is when the trouble starts. Thank you Phil and Merry for the Time Bandits Rallye. March is the beginning of the LBMG race season with the VARA –High Desert Challenge at Willow Springs March 25th & 26th. Time to ogle vintage race cars and dream about racing. The spring time High Desert Challenge is what started it all for VARA! So, come out and support the race. The Installation Banquet was a most wonderful event. I roamed the room and marveled at the friendships that have developed to the point where it feels more like family than members of a car club. The atmosphere was so open and festive it made me smile. The change of location made for a more intimate setting and everywhere I looked, I saw my LBMG family. My take: True friends are those who came into your life, saw the most negative part of you, but are not ready to leave you, no matter how contagious you are to them.

2017 Installation Banquet By Marilyn Gettys

For those of you who missed it, a great time was had by those attending.

It is always nice to see members all dressed up, and a few people we only see a few times a year.

It was a new venue this year, or at least I thought so, but a few old members (not in age, but membership in LBMG) informed me the club meetings used to be held there. That was before my time, I only remembered recreation park on 7th street. Anyway it was at recreation park golf course, clubhouse. Food was great, company even better.

As always, lots of trophies to give away, and people to recognize for their service to the club. Installation of 2017 officers (with very little change) you can read all these awards in other areas of the spokesman, points both competition and good guy, service and officers by looking at the masthead.

But the ones not listed: Event of the Year went to Ken and Marie Thomas for Double Day, Lois Gettys received Clean Car for her Smart Car

    Longevity awards to the following:

25 years Mike Barnhart, 30 years Greg Fast, 35 years Wayne Phalen, 45 years John Gawley 50 years Glenn Stahl 55 years Ken Puryear

Year end raffle winners: Lewis, Radley, Gettys, Gettys, Tulk

Centerpiece winners: Judy Alter, Mary Glumm, Donna Kempter, Juanita Fast, Linda Maxwell, Lois Gettys, JoAnn Hall, Karen Lewis, Dawn Duncan (who sent hers home with Dan Dickinson for Dottie, who was home sick.)

See the pictures by Marie Thomas elsewhere in this Spokesman.

Our Banquet is always the first part of February, so make plans to attend next year; we would love to see everybody.

  • LBMG Club By-Laws Change Proposal 14 January 2017 Current By-Laws

ARTICLE I – Dues Section 1. The dues of each member shall be thirty dollars ($30) per calendar year, payable January 1 through March 31 of each year. On April 1 all delinquent members shall be placed in inactive membership status as per the Constitution Proposed By-Laws

ARTICLE I – Dues Section 1. The dues of each member shall be thirty dollars ($30) per calendar year, payable October 1 through December 31 of each year to retain membership for the subsequent calendar year. On December 31 all delinquent members shall be placed in inactive membership status as per the Constitution Explanation for proposal: The club directory is published at the end of each calendar year for distri-bution at the Installation Banquet typically held in early February. The directory reflects members that have paid their dues for the year prior to the directory date. This means the directory is a year behind actual mem-bership. This time lag has, recently, been exacerbated by the loss of some members. While we have lost the member, their dues were current for the previous year and the directory shows them as active members. The issue also is apparent in the Honorary Membership listings. The proposed By-Law change would bring the directory in tune with the actual club mem-bership. Members Comments: Please provide your comments, suggestions and opinions to any BOG Member and / or the contact below. Old Business:

Change to By Laws – The process of changing the By-Laws was discussed. Marilyn Gettys determined that the written notice required by the By-Laws will be a letter from the Executive Secretary published in the Spokesman.

    New Business:

Competition Points – Marilyn Gettys explained that she had been approached by members at the Installation Banquet wanting to know why members received trophies for competition points when they had not competed. Changes to the awarding of competition points for workers was discussed. Marilyn also noted the cost of the silver-faced plaques for competition points, and suggested the number of awards be reduced from 10 to 5. Amy Tulk suggested that cutting off the number of plaques at the natural break also be considered. These issues will be taken up at the next BOG meeting.

Banquet – Marilyn Gettys remarked that the club had lost a lot of money on the banquet. Juanita Fast explained that we had 48 members RSVP, but many did not attend due to illness. The club was already aware that they were not going to have the attendance required to reach the minimum on the cost of the banquet, but the last minute cancellations increased the amount that the club would need to subsidize. It was noted that we may need to have members pay when they RSVP, and no longer accept payments at the banquet. A banquet date in January as opposed to February was discussed, but it was noted that the venue had given a discount for the Saturday before the Super Bowl.

Meeting Adjourned: Bob Lewis made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, which was seconded by Ken Thomas and approved by all. The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 pm. Respectfully Submitted, Amy Tulk Recording Secretary
