New Officers and Regsitrars were announced Minutes from last meeting needed to be modified from last meeting to include Bob Bentzinger as attending. With those amendments, minutes were accepted.

Old Business: Wine Tour – Montel winery, had a good crowd, thanks to Bob Horzmann for creating a great drive to the winery. Sporting Clays – 17 people, good times, had lunch at a steak place afterwards. Three folks drove their British cars to the

event. Cars & Coffee – Last one of the season, had a couple of British cars and held at Westport Plaza. Boeing Sports Cars – Autocross, last for the year, easier to run as not as much safety gear required. Pumpkin Drop – Was a good plan, met at the Waffle House on Sunday, Bob Guinness had laid out the route, but then was

laid up by hip surgery. The drop was actually on Saturday, but the drive was fun and it was good to be able to pass cars on the route when the group overtook a group of Model T’s out for a drive.

Wurstmart – had 9 club members and three cars show up over a couple of time periods. Good food and conversations as always.

New Business: Holiday Lights Drive – will try something new this year, will do Tillis Park. We have gotten permission to go through as one

big group. December 10th, 6:30pm, meet at McNight & Manchester. Will go to IHop afterwards. $10 a car entry. Christmakuh Party – January 23rd, in the Westport area. Will not be doing Rob Your Neighbor, might do a Trivia night in-

stead. More details to come. Triumph Club Party – St. Louis Athletic Club, December 4th. Registrations closes in two weeks. Information in the MG News-

letter / Website. RUBCO – November 18th at the Sunrise Family Restaurant. Bring canned goods for donation to a food pantry.

Decisions Needed: Tech Sessions – Will have two with John Mangles and Bob Bentzinger will contact Adam Key to verify that he will do two

again this year too. Ideas for the year include 1. Electrcal, 2. What to Look for When Buying a Car, 3. ???? 4. ???? Bring ideas to next meeting.

MO Endurance Rallye – First weekend of April, need a Rally Master, and ideas of how to run Looking for folks to help plan events, contact Lee Fox. What to do with additional monies left in the club accounts. Ideas suggested included;

Offer regalia to current and new members as a part of membership The monies are for the general benefits of the club members Could use for guaranteed spaces for club meetings Offset dinners at club meetings Name tags for all members Sponsorship fees for members to attend other club’s events Bring ideas to the next meeting

Membership: Walt Murphy reports Only 40 people have renewed their dues for 2016 There is currently no mechanism in place to determine if members have renewed or not. Need current phone number, e-

mail, and phone number list.

ST. Louis MG Club Monthly Meeting Minutes

November 9, 2015 Ferguson Brewing Company, Ferguson, MO

Projects: Bob Bentzinger – minor tune up on roadster, then got to the winery parking lot and it wouldn’t start. The terminals on the battery

are a different size and the clamp came loose. Got car started and home. Bruce Hamper – Distributor story, rebuilt three years or so ago, not electronic. This year went to set it, messed up the points, ended

up bending the shaft on the distributor. Peter Westbay – Heater core was leaking, looked on line on how to pull it out, comes out easy, hard to get back in. Looking for a dif-

ferent foam that will make it easier to install. Andy Ackerman – Redoing the whole interior. Cleaned it all out, used Eastwood product as sound deadener and insulation. Rebuild-

ing the seats with new foam, lumbar support and new covers like original. Rich Berger – Car wouldn’t start in a parking lot, no nail file to use on connections on battery, used piece of concrete to scrape termi-

nals and got a spark and got on the road. Walt Murphy – Started on the TD, and into it now. Started frame up, Todd has the motor, frame went to blasting today.

For Sales / Wants: John Mangles has lead from Joe Monteleone on wire wheels & hubs for 1977 MGA. $150-200. Marcus Tetzloff – has a 1976 B for sale, scapping it out. Has wire wheels, shell is rough, has a standard 4.

Drawings were held – Rich Berger, Walt Murphy and Jim Byrne won. Meeting was adjourned at 8:17pm. Respectfully Submitted, Carolyn Westbay St. Louis MG Secretary

Chairman’s Message B y B o b B e n t z i n g e r

The winter season is upon us and this usually means that we stop driving our LBC’s. But since this is an El Nino year I say not so fast. My car is a 1974 MGB Roadster which I bought new in 1974 (duh!). It was my only car for many years, summer or winter, rain or shine, work or play. I was only stuck in the snow once (probably my fault since I was reenacting an episode of Starsky and Hutch at the time). The car had high-centered on a snow drift and since I was close to home, I got a shovel and and dug the car out. The MGB is a worthy vehicle and if properly maintained and driven sensibly, it can provide reliable transportation all year round.

You are certainly welcome to drive your LBC to our next regular club meeting on Monday, December 14, 2015 at JJ’s Restaurant in St. Charles or any club activity for that matter.

The Triumph Holiday party is scheduled in early December and our club do has a possible driving event in December…the Holiday lights tour on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Club members who drive their LBC on

the tour, will have their admittance fee paid by the club.

Plans are coming together for the Holiday (Christmakah) party on Saturday, January 23, 2016. I think we are going to change things up a bit, replacing the “much beloved” traditional rob your neighbor celebration with something yet to be determined.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season.

Safety Fast!

Bob

It is December and as we rapidly head into the darker and colder winter months, I can only think of when it will be spring! I have received word that the Polar Bear Run is planned for February 14th which means that the first driving event of the new year is at hand. We have been blessed with such mild weather in late November and early December that I am hoping to ward off the first snowfall until January.

Some of us are still deep into our winter projects and the prospects of slightly warmer garages to work in is very welcome. Hopefully, some us will receive some nice holiday gifts that will certainly have to be adorned on our vehicles or installed somewhere within. The holidays are a special since you might just receive that something that you have longed wanted. Perhaps there is a Santa after all!

Please, Please, Please send me articles regarding your projects, repairs, or ideas. Since the major part of the driving season (some of us drive all year round) is over, there are not a lot of drives, car shows or meetings to report about in the newsletter. Photos are also greatly appreciated since most events are not always attended by myself. Technical sessions at All British Car Repair and British Car Restorations and Services LLC will be highlights in January and February!!

Our “ seen in the wild “ photo was taken by Tom Hurlbert at the Pumphouse Bar and Grill in Wood River IL , a 1980 Limited Edition MGB!

Safety Fast! Andy

Marathon MGB

By Simon Dix

During a visit to the Classic Car Show at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, UK, I (Simon your webmaster) got to see a historically significant MGB – the MGB that took part in the 1968 London to Sydney marathon. The newly saved Jean Denton works-backed MGB that took part in the event was there and in its just saved condition. This was a 10,000 mile journey, in a 10-day period taking the drivers, navigators and cars through a route that would be simply impossible in today’s world. See one of the pictures below to see the route.

Page 6: Dec2015 MG newsletter - namgar.com · VOLUME 26, ISSUE 8 DECEMBER 9, 2015 THE MG CLUB OF ST. LOUIS NEWSLETTER Inside this issue: MG Club members at the SLTOA Christmas Party 10 MG

This historic car was on the MG Car Club stand and as I happened upon it, I bumped into the MGCC MGB Register chairman, John Watson, who I had met a few years previously at Kimber House. John explained that this

car has been purchased and saved by the MGB Register. This is a fantastic piece of MG history. I managed to take some pictures of the report on the marathon rally that was published back in 1968 – not perfect but will give you a fla-vor of the event. The MGB reg-ister is going to restore the car to its rally starting condition and they could use some sup-port. If you, or your club, are looking to support a good MG cause financially, maybe this is the cause you are looking for?

More information about this historical MG is on the MGB Register website: http://www.mgb-register.org/MGB-Regis-ter/Jean_Denton_MGB.html along with a place to make a donation. If you would like to have your name on a plate as a financial supporter to get this

car back into its original rally condition then you need to donate at least £25.00. Link to donation page is: http://www.mgb-register.org/MGB-Register/Jean_Denton_Donations.html

SLTOA Christmas party at the MAC

Photos by John Moore

Several members of the MG Club of St. Louis joined the festivities at the Missouri Athletic Club for the annual St. Louis Triumph Owners Christmas Party. The food was delicious and the event was capped off with an unusual gift ex-change involving the Wright ( right) Family and their strange family gathering to celebrate Christmas. As their tale was told, all the SLTOA members exchanging gifts were arranged in a circle, moved the gifts either “ left or right” as the word was mentioned in the story. Thus, no one ever knew what gift they would finally receive until the final words of the Wright family tale was told. This was a new method to end often endless “ rob your neighbor “ gift ex-change used by the club in the past. A well received and fun alternative!
