The Liveable City conference is a celebration of architecture and urban planning where central and local government, businesses, politicians and professionals take part in talks, seminars and debates.

The two-day event features seminars addressing the question of how to find new ways in which cities can become better places to live, work and play as well as increase quality of life for everyone.

The event is organised by the Royal Danish Embassy in the UK in partnership with Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Combined Authority and the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Heat networks are the most energy efficient way of heating houses as well as being anenvironmentally friendly solution and fu-ture-proof. In this seminar, we will focus on practical ways of reaching low or zero car-bon by connecting to heat networks (district heating). We will look at how district heating can help deliver energy efficient homes, tackle fuel poverty, reduce carbon emissions and improve energy security, and examples from Danish cities and Birmingham will be presented.

Free-flowing transport is a major challenge to create, but nonetheless foundational for a liveable city. That is why more and more cities have looked to Denmark for inspiration. In this seminar, we look at the interface between different modes of transport and the infrastructure and masterplans that supports this, and also how future cities can improve traffic safety, and create healthy, people-friendly environments that can reduce congestion, pollution and carbon emission as well as help cities cope with growing populations and workforces.
