The Informer Harvey County 4-H Happenings April, 2020 K-State Research and Extension, Harvey County All four boys (Ben, Lucas, Eli, and Josiah Roth) have enjoyed spending time at Rock Springs 4-H Camp. They have eleven years of camp between them and if you add the years their mom (Kris) at- tended, it would add up to be 18 years of 4-H camp at Rock Springs Ranch as a camper and/or coun- selor. Their dad Derek did not attend 4-H camp, but he did attend other camps at Rock Springs and was able to do many of the same activities. All of the Roths love Rock Springs Ranch and enjoy go- ing when they are able. Benjamin is the oldest at 18 and he was able to go to camp four years. He went with Harvey county three years as well as Miami county for one year. His favorite parts of 4-H camp was the food and the friends he made. He still sees many of those kids at 4-H and school events and will be attending KSU with some of them he met at camp in the fall. He would like to return to serve as a counselor at camp some day. Lucas is 16 and attended four times as well with Harvey County and Miami county respectfully. His favorite part was swimming and challenging other cabins to do activities with the cabin they were in. He was able to meet many other campers by doing this. He enjoyed being away from home, hanging out in nature and would recommend 4-H camp to anyone that wants to try it. Elijah has been twice so far and is looking forward to returning this year if he is able. He loved horse- back riding and eating from the snack shack when it was open, especially after swimming with his cabin mates. Being outdoors and taking nature hikes and learning more about Kansas wildlife was re- ally fun. Elijah encourages others to attend 4-H camp so they can try new activities and meet new peo- ple from many other counties in Kansas. Josiah, the youngest of the Roth boys, loves swimming and playing ga ga ball while at Rock Springs. He went to camp for his first time last year and loved it. His counselor was nice and took good care of him and his tent mates and he wasnt homesick at all because they were always busy doing fun activi- ties. He hopes to go again this year and meet other people his age. Rock Springs 4-H camp is an excellent place to attend to meet new friends and learn new things. Quick Knowledge with The Roths

Well 4-H was ramping up for a busy spring full of events, but that doesn’t mean you cannot stay busy learning in your 4-H projects!

We are changing things over and we have 2 new things that will be fun! 1.) I am challenging all 4-Hers to do vid-eos about 4-H. Any topic you want, but let’s teach each other! 2.) I will be reaching out to people to meet with me via Zoom to Explore 4-H together. I will interview the youth about a certain 4-H project and they will be posted on our Facebook Group. Make sure you join our Group, because that is where a lot will be!

Reach out if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Anne Pitts, CFCS K-State Research and Extension Harvey County Extension Agent, 4-H & Human Development [email protected]
