The Informer Harvey County 4-H Happenings May, 2017 K-State Research and Extension, Harvey County We are happy to announce that Aline Bandeira dos San- tos is stepping into the full time 4-H Office Professional position here at KSRE Harvey County. Enzo is not a common name here, but it is in Brazil – where I’m from – and it’s an Italian name. Hopefully, he’ll join 4-H foods and make Italian dinners to his mamma. One can dream, right? We are happy to announce that Aline Bandeira dos San-tos is stepping into the full time 4-H Office Professional position here at KSRE Harvey County. Aline is taking over the position that Glenda previously held, so please feel free to reach out to Aline with anything that Glenda has previously helped you with. Important things to know about the fair:

What can I exhibit? 4-H members can exhibit projects in any division in which they are currently en-rolled. Members must follow all rules and guidelines listed in the 4-H fair book. Cloverbud members can enter items to be judged on a participation basis.

Fair Food Stand- The 4-H Food Stand serves as the main fundraiser for our 4-H programming in Harvey County, with proceeds going to the 4-H Council. All 4-H Clubs are assigned a shift to work during the fair, and this is “all hands on deck” for 4-H’ers and their families to help behind the counter! Shifts are 11:00AM-4:00PM or 4:00-9:00PM. Watch the June newsletter for more information about which shift your club is assigned to.

Fair Clean-Up- All 4-H’ers and their families that exhibit are asked to help with pre-fair set-up on Wednesday, Aug. 2nd at 6:00PM. and clean-up after the fair on Saturday, Aug. 12th at 9:00AM. The picnic meal is provided by 4-H families and supporters of the Harvey County 4-H Program are invited to attend. The 4-H Clothing project members put on a fashion review show during the picnic. Our 4-H program would not be possi-ble without the continued support of community members, and this is our way of saying thank you!

All 4-H Clubs are responsible for bringing:

3 - Gallons of Homemade Ice Cream

3 - 4-Her’s to present the door prizes they made to the winners.

Tea Tables: Halstead Cloverleaf

Ice Cream Table: Lucky 13

Welcome Committee: Hesston

Change for this year: Table service will be provided by a generous 4-H supporter. Thank you!

4-H Alumni! We are very excited about an opportuni-ty to engage 4-H alumni AND raise funds for Kansas 4-H! The national Raise Your Hand campaign will provide an easy way for proud Kansas 4-H alumni to reconnect with the national and state 4-H program in new and exciting ways.

Kansas is committed to connecting with as many of the state’s estimated 200,000 4-H alumni as possible during the campaign. Only in Kansas will the gener-ous partner, Stanion Wholesale Electric, Co., do-nate $2 for each “hand raised” who registers (up to $10,000). In addition, Kansas will be competing for a $20,000 1st place prize through the national reg-istration challenge – that means you can help Kansas raise up to $30,000 by registering! The Raise Your Hand campaign runs March 5 – June 30, 2017.

Raising your hand is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

Raise Your Hand: Go to www.ks4h.org to show your pride as a Kansas 4-H alum.

Compete for Your State: Raising your hand is a vote towards a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award for the states with the most alumni hands raised, as well a $2 match from Stanion Wholesale Electric, Co.

Pay It Forward: Share it on your Facebook page, tag your friends & ask them to Raise Their Hand too!

Throughout the campaign, the Kansas 4-H Founda-tion social media will be featuring easy to share posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The funds raised through the campaign will be directed to the 4-H Grows Here/True Leaders campaign and other marketing efforts as identified in the compelling needs document. With your help, Kansas will gener-ate valuable opportunities for 4-H testimonials, out-reach to employers of 4-H alumni, outcome-based research, new volunteers, and donors. This campaign will only strengthen Kansas 4-H.

There is no meeting in May due

numerous family obligations.

Welcome Denise Barkley!

Denise joined as our part-time Office Professional on April 20 and will be serving as Anne Pitts office professional.

A short bio: I was born and raised in Newton, enjoying a wonderful childhood in our small town. I left when I gradu-ated from Newton High School to attend college in Olathe, KS at Mid-American Nazarene Uni-versity. After college, I stayed up in NE Kansas for several years.

I moved back to Newton in December 2014 and I absolutely love being “home” getting reacquainted with everything I remember, learning about new things and places, and being back in my home church. Seeing old friends has been wonderful, and meeting new ones is always great!

What are you most looking forward to as a KSRE Office Professional? I am very happy to be employed as a KSRE Office Professional, and learning about everything involved in the Harvey County Extension Office. I’m looking forward to working however and wherever I’m needed and I’m especially looking forward to the County Fair this year since I’m now associated with this great office.

A fun fact about you? In my spare time, I love to take my camera and go on photography adven-tures. I wasn’t born with a sliver spoon in my mouth but I certainly was born with a camera slung on my shoulder.

Stop by the office & meet Denise. She can be reached at [email protected].

Dear 4-H Families,

Summer is right around the corner, which means family vacations, activities, summer camps and 4-H project work! As you look to attend 4-H meetings and activities, I want to remind you to snap a picture!

Saving photos of a member’s 4-H experiences allows for youth to reflect on the progress that they have made. These photos will be important when 4-H’ers fill out their records in a Kansas Award Portfolio (KAP) in October. So bring the camera and don’t forget to say cheese!

Have a great end to your school year!
