Stan founded The Richards Group as a freelance practice after graduating from Pratt Institute in New York. His work has received awards in virtually every major competition in the world, and broader recognition has followed.

He was chosen by the Dallas Society of Visual Communica-tions as “the single individual who, over his career, has made the most significant contribution to the advancement of creative standards in the Southwestern United States.” Pratt honored him with a Distinguished Alumnus Award. Advertising Age featured Stan as a cover story; he was included in The Wall Street Jour-nalʼs “Giants of Our Time” series and named an Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc. magazine.

would look like, but the gardeners tell her that it will take three years before it will look finish-ed. She reviewed all the gardens that make up the Arboretum. The Women's Garden was do-nated by The Women's Council of Dallas; it is several “rooms,” including the Poetry Garden with a sunken rose garden. The McCasland Sunken Garden is a popular place for wed-dings. The Camellia Garden has over two hun-dred camellias. The Rose Garden consists of over two hundred tea roses. The Concert Stage and Lawn is used for a variety of family-friendly concerts. The Red Maple Rill is a two-acre garden featuring over eighty varieties of Japanese Red maples along a stream. The Magnolia Glade features a meandering water-way and lily pond as well as the magnolias. The Family Garden is filled with perennials and features a waterfall across from the grotto. The Children's Adventure Garden is for stu-dents in Kindergarten through grade six, and focuses on Nature education. The Garden of Memories is a new addition in front of the De-Golyer House. There is also a new parking garage across from the north gate. A Tasteful Place gives every visitor three tastes of some thing grown in the garden. To date they have given away 192,000 samples. They have fin-ally found a place for their greenhouses on eight acres near Big Town; this will allow them to grow more of their own plants. She said that this is the sixth year of The Twelve Days of Christmas exhibit which is open through Dec-ember. When they were given a grant for a special exhibit, she asked her friends at the Dallas Opera to create it. It has become a destination for Christmas. Next year they will be opening the first part of a Children's Village for Christmas, with various shops from a Victorian village. Each shop will give the children a small gift.

THOUGHTS ON . . .

Purchase not friends by gifts; when thou ceasest to give, such will cease to love. ~ Thomas FullerRich gifts wax poor when givers prove unkind.

~ William ShakespeareThere is only one real deprivation, I decided this morning, and that is not to be able to give one's gifts to those one loves most.

~ May SartonWe inherit from our ancestors gifts so often taken for granted... Each of us contains within... this inherit-ance of soul. We are links between the ages, containing past and pre-sent expectations, sacred memor-ies and future promise.

~ Edward SellnerThe glorious gifts of the gods are not to be cast aside. ~ HomerThere is no benefit in the gifts of a bad man. ~ Euripides Each day provides its own gifts.

~ American ProverbWhatever it is, I fear Greeks even when they bring gifts. ~ Virgil

Thank You from Janie LovelessThursday, October 30, 2018

Dear Laurie and RCPC pals,What an absolutely gorgeous arrangement of fall flowers

brightened our home, thanks to you all.  It is so incredibly beautiful that I posted a picture of it on Facebook, and it has gotten so much positive feedback!  Several people even want to know which florist made it.  The colors are beyond fabulous, and the way the flowers are arranged is perfect.  We were so surprised to receive these flowers, and we smile every time we see them.

Thank you so much- the gift is extra special coming from my Rotary friends.  We appreciate such special friendships, and I miss seeing everyone!

Hereʼs to being back sooner than later! Love, Janie (& Tom)With apologies for the delay in printing this, due to too little space!
