our Back the Blue honoree, Jason Peacock, from the Highland Park Police Department. He has a BA in Accounting from UT-D and holds a master peace officer certification. He also is a licensed paramedic, a certified fire instructor, and a field training offi-cer. He has received forty-three commenda-tions from HP residents and received a Meri-torious Conduct Award im 2016. Daniel Ja-cob announced the Marketplace Advertiser of the week. Scurry Johnson reported on the event at Top Golf. First prize went to Tom Swift's team for the second year. PE John Gilchrist was the Master of Ceremonies. John Morelock brought a flag from a Rotary Club in Sydney, Australia. He said the club had about two hundred and fifty members and there was an open bar at the meeting. Presi-

volunteers will be needed!PP Phillip Bankhead introduc-

ed our speaker today, Dr. Fred Cerise, the CEO of Parkland Hospital. He star-ted by saying why Parkland is impor-

tant, because it centers on the uninsured. Insurance has be-come so expensive; a typical family coverage averages ab-out $18,000 a year. Many peo-ple cannot afford insurance. Dallas County has focused on

everyone having access to care, and to do so through Parkland. He said he had just finished the budget process. There are lots of demands for care. They have had an increase in volume and had outgrown their old facility, but while the new building was being built, they outgrew their growth projections. The hospital has ab-out 80,000 discharges per year. They have the busiest single Emergency Room in the country. They put a lot of work in doing what they do well. They do very well at giving the right tests and prescribing the right medicines. The hospital outperforms others nationally and in Texas, but they fell down on wait times. They must focus on cost of care because there is so much demand. They invited Toyota to help them streamline their processes and eliminate waste. They have a very sophistica-ted electronic record system. A primary physi-cian can take a picture of a lesion and trans-mit it to Dermatology for consult. GI providers can email tests to a specialist and avoid the patient having to make another office visit.

THOUGHTS ON . . .

The history of the world is but the biography of great men.

~ Thomas CarlyleThus, in a real sense, I am con-stantly writing autobiography, but I have to turn it into fiction in order to give it credibility.

~ Katherine PatersonOnly when one has lost all curiosity about the future has one reached the age to write an autobiography.

~ Evelyn WaughThe course of life is unpredictable, no one can write his autobiography in advance.

~ Rabbi Abraham HeschelDiscretion is not the better part of biography. ~ Lytton StracheyAutobiography is an unrivaled vehi-cle for telling the truth about other people. ~ Philip GuedallaI don't think anyone should write their autobiography until after they are dead. ~ Samuel GoldwynBiography lends to death a new terror. ~ Oscar Wilde

Great way to spend a Saturday!!

HE PROFITS MOST WHO LAUGHS BESTJoe Bob and Honey’s marriage has been on the rocks for a while. When they hear about a mar-riage seminar being given in their neighborhood they decide to attend. “One of the most impor-tant things in marriage”, said the speaker, “is to get to really know your spouse well. For exam-ple,” continued the speaker, “How many of you know what’s your wife’s favorite type of flower?”

Joe Bob leaned over to Honey and whispered, “it’s gold medal all-purpose flour isn’t it?”

Mobile phones and simple text messaging may be the keys to vic-tory in the eradication of polio.

As the disease retreats from the global stage, thriving in only a few remote areas in three countries, itʼs up to health workers to deliver vac-cines and share information with speed and accuracy.

Health workers in Pakistan are receiving cellphone and e-monitoring training at the Rotary Resource Cen-ter in Nowshera, Khyber.

Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initia-tive are strengthening the lines of communication by giving cell-phones to health workers in Pak-istan and Nigeria, where a single text message could save a life.

In Pakistan, Rotary has been working to re-place traditional paper-based re-porting of mater-nal and child health information
