THE RETYREMENT PLANWHO? Anu Tandon Vieira, artist-sculptor and interior designer, is the one-person team managing the design, execution and marketing of this fi rm that produces furniture and decor articles fashioned from re-cycled material. She uses old tyres, along with textile rejects and plastic packaging material to create pouff es, ottomans, chairs, hammocks, cat pads, lamps, etc. WHY? ‘A lot of waste is all virgin material – strips of cloth left over after making saree falls or screen-printing fabrics, negatives of felt material discarded after cutting bindis, packaging material, fl ex board hoardings, etc. All of it can be used to create quality products,’ says Anu. YOUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY It is rooted in (the) traditional crafts. I capture the

essence of crafts and make them contemporary,

so design and craftsmanship are important.

Working with the traditional craftsmen who are so talented, and my commitment to the environment. I’m glad I’m able to provide employment to them. I pay them well and sell directly so that I can keep the mark-ups low.WHAT’S NEXT? I want to share my designs with anyone who wants to take this forward. I also want to create industrial products so that more waste is used. If auto majors adopt my designs for their o� ce decor, it would be like they would use their own waste interestingly.
