Miss Gittins presented main school assemblies this week about her participation in this year's London Marathon and in particular the charities she is supporting. Her moving description of personal grief associated with the loss of a loved one due to cancer and a powerful video clip make the two charities approved by the School Council extremely worthy - proceeds from the non-uniform day on Friday 10th February will be divided between Macmillan Cancer Support and Save the Children. Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Rugby team who won the Dacorum Schools Rugby Festival continuing a recent tradition set by the current Year 11 of every year group reaching the highest standards in rugby. Well done to the PE Department and all students who took part in the competition. Thank you to the parents who sent in messages after the excellent production of The Crucible last week - these are really appreciated by the staff and students involved. I was also delighted with the efforts made also by the Year 12 Business students who hosted an afternoon tea party for senior citizens as part of their course. Given the fact that this was the first time such an event had taken place the feedback was excellent and I have given some examples below. Well done to Mrs Donkin and all the students involved. This afternoon I came to the Business Afternoon Tea for Senior Citizens organised by your Year 12 Business Students, and I would like to congratulate all the Students and Staff involved for providing an extremely enjoyable afternoon for me and the friend who accompanied me. The Students presented as a very competent set of young people who were pleasant to talk to, explained the purpose of the exercise and provided constant attention while serving the high quality and quantity of food they had prepared. The quizzes, too, were an excellent idea and provided much amusement as we stretched our memories to find the answers. The Students are a credit to you, the Staff involved and the School. They should be very proud of themselves and their achievement today. They all deserve to do well and I wish them every success in their future careers. I have just picked my parents up from your afternoon tea and the pair of them have not stopped talking about what a wonderful time they had! The food and entertainment were praised highly but the biggest accolade went to the students themselves - my parents were so impressed at how attentive, courteous and helpful they were - to quote my mother "it really is testament to how things are done at this school, the kids were an absolute credit". Please accept my warmest thanks to all who were involved in this event for making it so enjoyable. My parents are already talking about the next one! Patrick Harty Headteacher

Good ICT skills, Maths and English GCSE level C or above (or equivalent) are essential. First aid experience is desirable, although full training will be given. The post requires patience and flexibility and a calm manner. Working with young people and their parents/carers is an important aspect of the post as is liaising with all members of the school staff. Previous technical experience in this area or a similar related area are essential. We are seeking a suitable candidate to start in the role with immediate effect. Kids and teen health websites launch across Hertfordshire Two new health websites designed to engage and benefit children and young people across Hertfordshire are now live. Health for Teens and Health for Kids deliver topical health messages and advice through interactive tools and creative marketing materials. By covering subjects that promote health and wellbeing, the aim is to educate and help young people to make the right choices. Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust’s (HCT) School Nursing Team will manage the local health pages and update them as necessary with the most useful and current information. HCT is working in partnership with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) who came up with the original concept and design of the websites. Not only do the Hertfordshire websites provide local health updates, events and information, but it will contain the contact details of all School Nursing Teams across the county and signpost to relevant services. The Crucible Sixth Form students have recently staged a tense and thrilling production of Arthur Miller's play 'The Crucible'. Miller's play gives an account of the 17th-century witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts and was inspired by the paranoia about Communists whipped up by Senator Joseph McCarthy. There were some superb performances from John Bristow as John Proctor and Sarah Fenlon, who played his wife Elizabeth. However, this could not have been achieved without the hard-work and dedication provided by the twenty strong cast, many of whom are studying A-level Theatre Studies. The cast performed to packed houses on both evenings and once again demonstrated the school's commitment to providing high quality, extra-curricular Arts projects for its students.

Exam Invigilators Required Are you interested in being an exam invigilator? Working as part of a team, you will be responsible for setting up exam venues and supervising candidates taking exams. Training will be given and full support provided by the Exams office. Applicants must be available to work during our exam seasons in November, December, May and June, be well organised, confident and willing to work flexible hours. Rate of pay is £8.20 per hour. SPORTS NEWS Year 7 Boys Rugby Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Rugby Team who won the Hemel Stags Dacorum Schools Rugby League Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The boys won every game in the competition beating Longdean, Kings Langley, Cavendish and Astley Cooper. Well done to all the boys involved.

The competition will launch in January and will run until Saturday 22nd April. The winners will be announced in June 2017. Picture books entered for the award may be made by individuals and groups and any media can be used. Each picture book can be up to 24 A4 pages.
