Music Notes Mrs. Perry

Happy Spring! Latest report of the annual "Run for the Arts” fundraiser is that we raised over $1,500. Great job Greenbriar Grizzlies! The monies will help us bring in ‘arts’ convocations and workshops next year for our school. Congratulations to the students that participated in the bi-annual Choral Festival. The evening was filled with song, dance, movement and fun. The 5th graders that sang with the other elementary groups had an awesome

time. It was certainly an experience of a lifetime! The end of the year will be bringing some more fun things going on in the Music Room. Be sure to ask your student about these happenings!

Greenbriar Alumni Scholarship Winner

The PTO is pleased to announce that Miss Arica Watford, a graduating senior at North Central High School, has been awarded the Greenbriar Alumni Scholarship for use dur-ing the 2017-2018 academic year. The scholarship money can be used toward any

college expense incurred by Arica. Arica has many happy memories of Greenbriar but what influenced her the most was the experiences she had with the “foster grandparent” program at a nursing home in 2nd and 3rd grades. This ongoing monthly program taught her about being genuine in everything you do and to cherish and value your family. This proves especially true to those older relatives who can share so many experiences and life lessons. Arica’s favorite teachers at Greenbriar were Mrs. Robbins, Mr. May and Mrs. Brooks. At North Central, she has been very active in dance includ-ing being part of the Dance Ambassadors. Future plans include attending Ivy Tech Community Col-lege where she plans to pursue a career in the medical/health field. Congratulations, Arica! All Greenbriar wishes you well!

ART NEWS Ms. James

We are wrapping up our art learning this month with games and activities to set us up for success! After a challenging day in class recently, I was overjoyed to hear a first grade student say, “ I realized that I CAN do it!” That is my goal as a teacher: help each student see the greatness in themselves and know that they CAN do any-thing they try.

Our Artist of the Month is Henri Rousseau, an artist from France who is famous for his jungle paintings. We studied his art, learned that he had 6 kids and lived in a busy city. Although Henri had never visited a jungle, he was inspired to create art based on his imagination and pictures that he had seen in

books. If Henri can make great art, so can you!

Until next time, Grizzlies, keep drawing and practicing and be your best self!

News from the Clinic!

Smile Mobile Visits May 9 & 10

Students that returned forms for the Smile Mobile will be seen May 9 or 10. Only those that returned forms will visit the mo-bile dentist.

* * * * * * Attention to all parents who have children with medi-cation in the clinic. All medication must be picked up on or before May 24 which is the last day of school. Medication not picked up will be discarded.

* * * * *

If your child is returning to Greenbriar next year, please be proactive in filling out and turning in all appropriate pa-perwork so your child receives the medication and special care they need. Remember: All asthma, allergy, seizure and diabetic students must have a Medical Plan Of Care on file in the clinic. Students with an allergy or asthma must have a physician fill out a form. Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter.

HATS OFF TO GREAT GREENBRIAR GARDENERS

During two weekends this spring, includ-ing Earth Day, a group of 29 volunteers worked hard in Greenbriar’s Patriotic Garden. They weeded, dug a trench, spread top-soil, cut down limbs, mulched, and hauled sticks, branch-es, mulch, and dirt. Thank you to these families for making our garden great: Dylan Duffy and parents, Hope Peck with parents and an aunt, Joanna Cervantes with her mother and sib-lings, Joey Sexson and dad, LeAsia and LeBraya Warren with their mother, grandparents, and uncle, Lucero Mo-rales with her parents and siblings, Malcolm Cruz and his mother, and Zion Holmes with his parents and two sis-ters. We are most grateful of your generous gift of time and labor. Now just watch us bloom!
