Who are the Memphis Grizzlies?
They are a professional basketball team
• Established in 1995 as Vancouver Grizzlies• Mode to Memphis in 2001
Initial Seasons After the Move
From years 2001 to 2008
• Started playing at Pyramid Stadium under Pau Gasol
• Featured in Playoff in their final season at the Pyramid Arena, helping coach Hubert "Hubie" Brown become the Coach of the Year recipient
• Moved on to play at FedExForum• Featured in the Playoff three times by 2008
Major Events between 2008 and 2010
The team went through a lot of changes during this phase:
• Pau Gasol was traded to Los Angeles Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie and rights to Marc Gasol
• Lionel Hollins took over as coach • Zach Randolph was brought in, and had a huge impact,
posting 20.8 ppg and 8.8 rebounds per game in his first season
Major Events in the 2010/2011 Season
Some of the major events were:
• Celebrated tenth season for the franchise• Acquired Shane Battier and Ishmael Smith in place of
Hasheem Thabeet and DeMarre Carroll• Won their first playoff series, first playoff game against #1
seed San Antonio Spurs in a best-of-seven series• Beaten by Oklahoma City Thunder in the next round after a
tough playoff series
Changes During the 2011/2012 Season
The lockout and delayed start to the new season caused a number of changes:
• Reduction of 16 games• Estimated loss of $400 million to team owner and players• Resigned Marc Gasol and Hamed Haddadi• Finished the season strong with a record of 41-25, setting best
win percentage record in team history• Eliminated in first round of playoff by Los Angeles Clippers
Beginning of the 2012/2013 Season
Underwent an ownership change before the beginning of the new season.
• Named among the 10 youngest billionaires of the time by Forbes, Robert J. Pera andhis group, purchased the team for $350 million.
• Jason Levien was named CEO and Managing Partner and John Hollinger was hired as the new Vice President of Basketball Operations.
In the News in the 2012/2013 Season
• 12 out of 14 Grizzlies had the best start to the season in franchise history
• Posted a franchise best 56-26, with the best defense in NBA, making Marc Gasol the first European born player to win NBA's Defensive Player of the Year Award.
• Went on to their first Western Conference finals, avenging defeating Los Angeles Clippers in the first round and Oklahoma City Thunder in the semifinal series.
• Lost to San Antonio Spurs in the final
An Eventful 2013/2014 Season
Despite making it to the finals in the previous last season, the 2013/2014 started with coach Lionel Hollins being replaced by assistant coach David Joerger due to differences with team management.
• Struggled in defense early in the season with Marc Gasol out early due to injury
• Gasol's return in January led to a revival in fortunes for the Grizzlies as they finished 50-32
An Eventful 2013/2014 Season
• Zach Randolph became MVP with 17.4 ppg and 10.1 rebound with Mike Conley Jr having a breakout season with career high 17.2 points, 6.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds
• Faced old rivals Oklahoma City Thunder, narrowly lost out in the first playoff series with star player Zach Randolph suspended for the seventh game
Surprise Start to the 2014/2015 Season
• Before the start of the season, CEO Jason Levien and Assistant General Manager Stu Lash leave Memphis Grizzlies.

Surprise Start to the 2014/2015 Season
• Carried good form and started well• Ended the season with a record 55-27• With Gasol leading the way, won the first
playoff series game against Portland Trail Blazers
• Lost to Golden State Warriors in the second playoffs
Future of the Team
With the best player in Grizzlies history, Marc Gasol extending his contract and entering a new five-year deal and under a fairly new management, the team looks settled and ready for the exciting seasons to come.
