Dear Greenbriar Parents,

The first part of ISTEP+ testing has gone extremely well in

Grades 3-5. It is always a pleasure to see students fo-

cused on doing their best. Thanks for your help at home

as you ensure, as always, that your student gets off to a

well-rested, well-fed, positive start each morning. ISTEP

part 2 begins April 17. Please be mindful of this date

when making appointments as we need all students

ready to test that week.

The students did an awesome job with IREAD3 in third

grade as well. It all took place on the computer so we

should have the results back soon.

Thank you to those families and staff members who par-

ticipated in the Great North Run. We registered 135

people! We had about 30 students from the running

club participate and they did a fantastic job along with

several staff members! Thank you to Miss Boyd, Miss

Smith, Miss Lents and Mr. Lancaster for organizing our

running club and supporting students.

Thank you to our PTO and families that attended our

Spring Fling. It was a great turnout and we appreciate

all their hard work. I hope you have a restful Spring Break! Students will be out the week of March 27-31,

and will return April 3.

Make sure you are continuing to read at LEAST 25

minutes nightly and practicing your math facts. We will

continue to celebrate these district and school initia-

tives throughout the year.

Music Notes Mrs. Perry

Third Grade did a great job during their “FUN” music

program! DVD orders are completed and have been deliv-

ered to students.

Grade 5 students have turned in their forms to attend the

bi-annual Choral Festival of Washington Township.

Please join us Tuesday, April 4 at 7 pm at North Central

High School to support the Performing Arts. The Elemen-

tary, Middle School and North Central Counterpoints will

present an amazing concert!

Our fundraiser “Run for the Arts” will kick-off with a live

jazz concert on April

7. Grades 2, 4, & 5 will attend

at 9:35 am and grades K, 1, &

3 will attend at 2:30 pm. This annual fundraiser helps to

pay for workshops and convocations throughout the year

to be sponsored by Arts for Learning. Our “Fun Run” will

take place on April 18. Join us for a ‘jog’ and donate a

dollar or two to help keep extra Performing Arts activities

in our school.

Lease Updates Due Now! The 2016-17 school year ends in a few short months. Ex-

pired lease notices were sent home recently. Families

must keep lease information current so administration can

plan for the next school year. Please do not ignore these

notices and update your residency information now. Families must bring a copy of their current lease showing

the expiration date and the management signature page

along with a current utility bill. Students with expired

leases at the end of the school year may be withdrawn!

If you have received a notice please take care of this

matter by April 7. Students may not be assigned a classroom placement until

expired leases are updated. If you have moved outside of

the Greenbriar district please contact the office as soon as

possible so we may forward student records.

NOTE: Please keep all contact/phone numbers up to

date. In the event of an emergency, office and clinic per-

sonnel must be able to contact parents or guardians as

soon as possible. Please send a note with updated num-

bers to your child’s teacher.

Thanks to Republic Recycling A HUGE thank you to Republic Services for allowing us to use their bin for our phone book recycling campaign, for delivering it and picking it up, and for recycling the contents for us. ART NEWS Ms. James

We’ve been busy with wonderful weavings. Every student

created a pattern in their class. It is a hard skill to master at

first, but once we got going, weaving was a great way to

create an amazing piece of art.

In March, our Artistically Talented group had an amazing

Art Show at NCHS. I am so proud of the students who par-

ticipated! Special thanks to 5th graders Kaylie Anderson,

Michelle Ayeh, Kamiyah Johnson, Luis Medina, Alex Pe-

rez, and Armoni Richardon and fourth graders Cece Ben-

son, Alani Darby, Larry Johnson, Felipe Romero-Aguilar,

Marcella Townsend, Leota Thompson and Hayley Wash-

ington. Watch for our final project!

Spotlight on New Staff Stars

Ms. Katie Wyn ~ Third Grade Teacher

Born and raised on the east side of Indianapolis! I graduated from Warren Central High School in 2007. After high school, I continued my education at Indiana University. Go Hoosiers! Part of my student teaching was completed in New South Wales, Australia, in a small town called Albury. Currently, I teach 3rd grade (and I love it!). I previously taught in 5th grade for 4 years in Warren Township. Go Greenbriar Grizzlies!

Do you have a hobby or area of interest? TRAVELING! TRAVELING! TRAVELING! I’m always down to experience or travel somewhere new. Skydiv-ing anyone? What is your favorite: Book? The Hunger Games Movie? The Goonies Song? Michael Jackson’s Man In The Mirror Sport? Cheerleading/Gymnastics Food and Restaurant? McDonald’s Vacation? Colorado definitely! I have family that lives there! If you weren’t in education, what other occupation would you choose? I think I would be a nurse so I can continue to help people in some way. If you could have dinner with anyone, living or de-ceased, who would it be and why? My dad! He passed away several years ago, but has always been a constant motivator in my life to always do my best, even after his passing. I always ask myself in difficult situations “What would my dad do?”. Tell us something interesting about you that would surprise other Greenbriar staff? I once timed myself to see how fast I could eat a Big Mac. I know, embarrass-ing. I also had a McDonald’s Christmas tree growing up.

The Indianapolis Lemonade Day is coming. Each year Greenbriar students in K – 5th grade participate in learn-ing how to run and operate their own business, a Lemon-ade Stand! Students join Lemonade Club and stay after school once a week and work through the Lemonade Day’s online curriculum.

Students will be staying after school on Wednesdays (3:30 – 4:30) from April 5 - May 17, engaging in activities and working on the computer. It’s great to see our kids being leaders and putting what they’ve learned about economics into action. More information will be coming soon!

Condition Requirements

Students with asthma, food allergies, or

life threatening conditions must meet

these requirements:

Must have documentation/doctor’s order/asthma action

plant, etc., in order to leave an inhaler or Epipen in

clinic.

In mid-April, parent will receive packet for medical

condition which must be completed by parent. Please

call the nurse for a July appointment to drop off packet/

meds.

Inhalers/Epipens will not be accepted without proper

documentation. All medications must be in the original

packaging and properly labeled with name of student.

Please take advantage of summer break to ensure these

requirements are met to properly serve your child.

The PTO is in need of a chairperson for the 5th Grade Celebration. A parent of a Kinder-4th grader is needed to work with 5th grade teachers. PTO supports this event. Email us for more details. Greenbriar Alumni Scholarship

The Greenbriar PTO is offering an alumni

scholarship to qualified former Greenbriar

students who are graduating next May 2017.

The $500 scholarship may be used at any col-

lege of the student’s choice for any fees in-

curred by the student. Applications will be

available after the Winter Break.

Applicants must have attended Greenbriar for 4 consecutive

years and must be a student in good standing at North Cen-

tral with a minimum g.p.a. of 3.0. An original essay of 500

words or less that addresses one of the two required ques-

tions must be included.

If you know of a former Greenbriar student who may be

interested in this opportunity, please have him/her pick up

an application from the Scholarship Coordinator, North

Central Guidance Office.
