We are sending out the Grapevine a little early this week, so I don't know whether you will be reading this before or after your Thanksgiving celebration. Either way though, I offer this prayer for your time with family and friends. It need not be for Thanksgiving, but since we are right around the day, it is suitable for the occasion. Thanksgiving is, after all, a day to acknowledge the blessings in our lives. And only a few of our blessings revolve around food. Our thanks goes to the God who has given us all things, including the lives we live and the breath we are taking in and out of our bodies right now. May your Thanksgiving be a day you truly give thanks to the One who loved you first and loves you best. God of all we have and are, we give thanks for the blessings in our lives. We thank you for the many we take for granted and those we do not even recognize as blessings right away. We thank you for the times we are restless, because we know there is something missing and it helps us turn to you. We thank you for the times we are sad, because we know you will one day wipe the tears from our eyes. We thank you when times are hard, because it reminds us of the One who, when we cannot go on, will carry us. We thank you when we feel lost or lonely, because it helps us feel the pain of others. We thank you for our conflicts because it provokes us to seek peace and pursue it. We thank you for your Son, because without him, are lives would be hollow, indeed. We welcome you at this Table, Lord....have your way. In all things, at all times and places, have your way. Amen.

Our Matula Partnership – Gives Back! Recently, Matula Elementary held a canned food drive and donated EVERYTHING – 14 huge boxes of canned food items – for our LPUMC Food Pantry! This is exactly how a partnership works! What a well-oiled machine!

Adopted Familes – Matula Elementary School We wish to thank those of you who took a gift tag from the Christmas trees during the 8:30 and 11am services! There are still more gift tags available. All of the gifts will benefit 4 needy families from Matula Elementary School. The families consist of: Twin 4-yr old girls 6-month old girl Two 9 year old boys 2-year old boy 13-year old girl Please pray about selecting a gift tag, purchasing that gift and returning it unwrapped to the boxes available during the Sunday morning services no later than Sun, Dec 15.

Opportunity

Dear Ones, the best gift you can give to someone else this HOLY DAY season is to invite them to come and experience LPUMC, either at an activity or in a worship service. There are business card-sized listings for all our worship opportunities and special events happening in the month of December for those who need some extra "cheer" or a connection with Christ! Ushers will be handing out some to take with you for yourself and to give away! Keep it handy and share with others, so we all can join in the joy! After all, JESUS is the reason for the season....and His birthday is just around the corner! Invite someone to the party!

Italian Feast - ASP Fundraiser Please join us on Wed, Dec 4 from 5-7pm for our annual Italian Feast to raise funds for next summer’s ASP trips. You should be tired of turkey leftovers by then, so come on out for lasagna, spaghetti and other Italian favorites, salad, and dessert. Love offering will be taken. If you would like to help, donate or want more info about ASP, please contact John Carns at 301.848.0060 or [email protected].

Old Time Christmas The ABR Circle will hold their annual Old Time Christmas Luncheon on Fri, Dec 6 at 12pm in Fellowship Hall 1. The cost is $12. All are invited! Please bring a toy for a donation to the Children's Aid Society. Any questions, please call Mary Vance at 301-934-4903 or Cindy Beaston 301-934-5341.

Christmas Caroling Please join the Fellowship Ministry team for our annual Christmas Caroling on Sun, Dec 8. We will gather in Fellowship Hall 1 for a delicious soup and sandwich luncheon provided by committee members immediately following the 11am service. After eating, we will board a school bus to visit church members who have not been able to attend services. We will return NLT 4:30pm. Wear your Santa hat and "crazy holiday" sweaters / clothing to show your Christmas spirit. Families are welcome and lyrics are provided to all of your favorite carols. Contact Cheryl Smith @ 301-752-1386 or the Church office for any questions. You will need to sign up to attend so that the committee can prepare enough food. You may sign up on the attendance pads or on our website at laplataumc.org - just look for Christmas Caroling.

Sunday School Help Needed With teachers moving and focusing on family, we are in need of two Sunday School teachers. Personal phone calls have been made, but we are still seeking help. If you are interested in working with children and being a part of this ministry, please contact Corrie Roberts.

Youth Support Edelen's and Bayono Tribe LPUMC continues to support the Edelen family, who are Wycliff Bible Translators working in Papua Indonesia, through the sale of Fair Trade coffee and donations. The youth have spent the past month gathering items to send to them for the holidays. Some gift requests were made for Beni's kids and small goodie bags were made for all the kids in the tribe. Disciple cross necklaces were included for Matt's kids, Matt, Caroline, Beni and his wife, Dahuna. Please keep the Edelen's, Beni's family and the entire Bayono tribe in your prayers this holiday season.

Colossians 3:17

God the Father through him.

O Heavenly Father: We thank Thee for food and remember the hungry. We thank Thee for health and remember the sick.

We thank Thee for friends and remember the friendless. We thank Thee for freedom and remember the enslaved.

May these remembrances stir us to service. That Thy gifts to us may be used for others. Amen.
