The Grand Pianola Welcome
On Sunday the 10th August the Harbourside Haven Recreation Hall rang out with the
voices of over fifty residents welcoming the new Pianola donated and
transported by Frank Ward to be enjoyed by all.
The singing was led by members of the Bay Singers. Many an old tune was
attempted with gusto and laughs abounded and afternoon tea enjoyed.
After a revamp of the Pianola there will be more musical afternoons later in the year.
A huge thanks to Frank – a wonderful acquisition for the residents to enjoy!

HARBOURSIDE HAVEN /BERNIE THOMPSON PARK VILLAGE NEWS
Sing-a-long at Harbourside: What fun was had as around fifty residents
raised their voices in song to welcome the newly installed Pianola on Sunday the 10th August. Residents enjoyed a great afternoon tea, a recital by 8 year old Lily Washington on her violin, several Bay Singers in good voice leading the Harbourside Troup and plenty of laughter and fun. And this was just the first attempt! Thank you Frank Ward for all the effort you have put into getting the Pianola for the village and we look forward to many happy times around it later in the year. Bon Voyage to Frank who embarks on a European holiday shortly.

Greetings from Bernie Thompson Park By Carol Russell
Weather has allowed us to enjoy Thursdays with our soup afternoon successful, although John Alt had a surprise in his mug! Unfortunately the CD playing afternoon was not so successful. With the memory not being what it was, we still enjoyed some favorites. The chatting was most enjoyed (decorum not a priority!) Remember everyone is welcome to join us.
A new resident was welcomed into BTP by Rae Boughton and acquainted with village living advantages.
The scouts have done a great job with the new villa numbering. Quite a large number of BTP residents enjoyed the Pianola afternoon and look forward to more afternoons.
Supply information for this page to Kath Cridland 4981 3342 by 18th of the month.

residents as well as some other projects. Again, we thank those residents from all the Havens who have called for assistance along the way. We do appreciate it
Don’t forget the Wednesday “Cuppa & Chat” from 10 a.m. ..
The Zumba sessions with Grainne are growing in popularity with a good number turning up each Monday at 1.30p.m.
Even though it is a few months away, we have booked the Soldiers Point Bowling Club Function Room for our Christmas Get Together. This will be held on Sunday, 21 December at 12.30 p.m. The cost will be $28.50 p.p. for a 2 course Hot Carvery Buffet. Each resident attending will be given a drink voucher which can be redeemed at the bar for a beer, glass of wine or soft drink Further information nearer the time will be by

It’s sad Kel’s trunks got so daggy
And over time became so saggy
But they only followed nature’s
lead
‘cause sagging is our fate indeed
It would be nice to be taut and trim
With energy and lots of vim
Where did it go? And when was
that?
We had them once some decades
back
Aerobic classes help us now
If we attend; we will vow
We’ll maintain the pace;
We will not lag
and with luck we will
Beat the sag
Come and enjoy the fun on

Aged care changes from 1 July 2014
If you are planning to enter aged care from 1 July 2014, there are things you need to know
about the fees you may need to pay. Changes to fees are part of reforms to the aged care
system to make it more sustainable and affordable. More information on the aged care re-
forms is available on the Department of Social Services website.
How do I access aged care from 1 July 2014?
You will need an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) assessment to access a Home Care
Package or move into an aged care home. The ACAT assessment is free and the eligibility
requirements will not change. However, there will be some changes to how long an ACAT
approval will be valid for.
Is the cost of a Home Care Package changing?
Currently, you may be asked to pay a basic daily fee and income-tested care fee for your
Home Care Package. From 1 July 2014, the rules for income-tested care fees are being
strengthened so that people who have the financial capacity to pay will be asked to contrib-
ute to the costs of their care. Your income will determine the income-tested care fee you
may be asked to pay.
You can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to help you estimate the fees and charges you
may have to pay towards your Home Care Package. Before you call you should have your
financial information ready, especially details of your various forms of income.
There are annual and lifetime caps in place to limit any income-tested care fees you may be
asked to pay. You can apply for financial hardship assistance if you believe you will have
financial difficulty contributing to the cost of your Home Care Package. Are residential aged care fees and payments changing?
Yes, the way in which some fees and payments are calculated is changing. The new arrange-
ments mean that your income and assets will be taken into account in establishing the fees
and payments you may be asked to pay. The basic daily fee is not affected by these new ar-
rangements.
You may be asked to pay one or more of the following fees in residential care:
Page 9 Harbourside Haven Villages 2014
A basic daily fee: This covers living costs such as meals, power and laundry. For some
people this is the only fee they are required to pay.
A means-tested care fee: This is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that
some people may be required to pay. The Department of Human Services will work out
if you are required to pay this fee based on an assessment of your income and assets,
and will advise you of the amount.
An accommodation payment: This is for your accommodation in the home. Some people
will have their accommodation costs met in full or part by the Australian Government,
while others will need to pay the accommodation price agreed with the aged care home.
The Department of Human Services will advise you which applies to you based on an
assessment of your income and assets.
Fees for extra or additional optional services: Additional fees may apply if you choose a
higher standard of accommodation or additional services. These vary from home to
home. Your aged care provider can provide you with details of these services and the
fees that apply.
There are annual and lifetime caps in place to limit the amount of the means-tested care fee
you will need to pay. You can call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to help you estimate the
fees and charges you may have to pay towards your residential aged care. Before you call
you should have your financial information ready, especially details of your various forms
of income and assets.
When you move into an aged care home, you will negotiate an agreement that will set out
the fees and charges you will be asked to pay.
You can apply for financial hardship assistance if you believe you will have financial diffi-
culty contributing to your residential aged care costs.
What if I am already receiving aged care services?
If you are already receiving aged care services, you will not be charged any more than your
service provider can currently charge you.
However, we suggest you read about the reforms to aged care as they may apply to you in
the future. If you change the type of service you receive or if you leave and re-enter aged
care, then changes resulting from the reforms may apply to you.

Port Stephens Veterans & Citizens Aged Care
Community services are now providing Home
Care Packages
What support is available through the Home Care Packages Program? If you want to stay in your own home as you get older, but need help with a range of services like cleaning and preparing meals, gardening, assistance with showering, or with transport so that you can go shopping or attend appointments, a Home Care Package may be for you. A Home Care Package provides a co-ordinated package of services tailored to meet your specific care needs. Home Care Packages are funded by the Australian Government through the Home Care Packag-es Program – a new program which started 1 August 2013.
What is a Home Care Package? A Home Care Package provides services that can: help you to stay at home for as long as possible
give you choice and flexibility in the way that care and support is provided to you. There are four levels of Home Care Packages which are designed to give you the care you need now, but can also be changed if your needs increase later. Home Care Levels 1 and 2 help people with basic or low level care needs; Levels 3 and 4 help people with intermediate to high care needs. The Australian Government pays a subsidy to an approved home care provider so that it can provide care and services to you. The amount of funding depends on the level of the Home Care Package that you are receiving. Our Home Care Packages will be delivered on a Consumer Directed Care (CDC) basis. CDC is a new way of providing home care. It gives you more control and choice about the types of care and services you access, how the care is delivered and who delivers it to you. Under CDC, you will determine the level of involvement you would like to have in managing your own package. You will be provided with a personalised budget so you can see how much funding is avail-able for services and how the money is being spent.

What types of services are provided? Personal care: such as help with showering, dressing, mobility, meal preparation and eating, and fitting sensory communication aids. Support services: such as help with laundry, house cleaning, gardening, basic home maintenance, home modifications (related to care needs), and transport to help you do shopping, visit your doctor or attend social activities. Clinical care: nursing, allied health and other therapies. Other services: such as remote monitoring technology (where appropriate) and assistive technolo-gy, including devices that assist mobility, communication and personal safety where these services are identified in your care plan.

How do I get a Home Care Package? You will need to be assessed as eligible by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), or an Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) in Victoria, to receive help at home through a Home Care Pack-age. The assessment team is made up of a range of health professionals to help you work out what your care needs are, and whether a Home Care Package would assist you. There is no minimum age requirement for Home Care Packages, but younger people such as those with younger onset dementia, will still need to be assessed as eligible by an ACAT. If you are eligible for a Home Care Package, you will be put in touch with home care providers in your area. There may be a waiting period for packages in some areas. Once you have been offered a package by a home care provider, a care plan will be developed for the services you need. You and your provider will agree on the services you need within the amount of the funding available for the package.
What does a Home Care Package cost? The Australian Government pays for the bulk of aged care in Australia, but as with all aged care ser-vices, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of your care if you can afford to do so. If you are asked to pay a care fee, the amount will vary according to your income. If you are on the basic rate of
pension, your maximum contribution would be 17.5% of the single pension. People on higher incomes may be
asked to contribute a higher amount.
