The Light-ning Rod

Holiday Travel EditionKeep your sanity, your joy, and your health this holiday season.

Can it possibly be that time of year already? It has arrived. Whatever holidays you celebrate, even if you celebrate none at all, this time of year can be filled with stress, illness, and depression.

However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Within the pages of this holiday edition of The Lightning Rod, you will find a variety of tidbits to help you overcome the stress and, hopefully, enjoy the

holidays and the new year resolutions.

There are two quotes that seem particularly appropriate this time of year. The first is from Napoleon: Do not attribute to malice what might easily be explained by incompetence. The second is from Joseph Campbell: Sometimes, we have to let go of the life we want in order to have the life that is waiting for us.

Have a wonderful holiday season and great start to the new year. Remember to set your goals at a reasonable level, and be good to yourself. The world is a better place for having you in it. All you have to do is your best.

Peace and all happiness.

philosophy focuses on the importance of lifestyle choices in our health and wellness. Living in harmony with nature’s laws is considered paramount to good health and living in opposition to nature manifests dis-ease.

It is no wonder, then, that naturopaths place such an emphasis on lifestyle choices. With the holiday season comes traveling. With traveling comes choices. GLA would like to encourage you to make good choices while traveling. Start preparing now by learning ways to cope with stress, avoid impairment, and stay safe while on the road.HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE; CHANGE YOUR PHYSICAL RESPONSE

Did you know, your body responds the same when you are excited as it does when you are afraid? What’s the difference? Your perspective makes the difference. Two people can be standing at the top of a bridge for the purpose of bungee jumping, and one might be terrified. The other might be thrilled. Both will likely have very similar physical responses.

There are two lessons in this scenario. First, not all adrenaline junkies are stunt specialists. Some are people who consistently volunteer for victimhood because they are addicted to the biochemical response. Learning to break that addiction can be a difficult and long process, but a fulfilling one. It involves a lot of practice in changing the way we

look at situations in which we find ourselves.

Which person will suffer long-term effects of the physical response? 2nd lesson:We all have a choice about whether we hold our emotional responses in our bodies or free them up. There are many techniques available to foster this paradigm shift. These include Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Reiki, counseling, yoga, biofeedback, and many more. Do yourself the favor of choosing to be excited rather than nervous and take steps to release the emotions you are carrying in your body. Call us for a referral today.

LIFE IS LIKE DRIVING A CAR

If you will be driving this holiday season, make sure you stop by Thurman’s Body Shop in Ellettsville, Indi-ana, to pick up one of their “What to do in case of an accident” brochures. Hopefully, you will not need it, but you will be glad you have one if you ever find yourself in an automobile accident. They really help you keep your head in the aftermath.

Make sure you know who is behind the wheel.

It’s what is under the hood that counts.

Make sure you are ready when the rubber meets the road.

A good bumper can save face in a conflict.

Keep your light shining bright so you can see in the darkness.

Occasionally look behind you, but keep your focus on where you are going.

Perspective is everything! Do you see getting lost as an adventure or headache?

SHAPE UP! MONROE COUNTY

In 2008, twelve people will be chosen to receive five months of free Jazzercise classes and will work with a weight loss coach from Inside Out Coaching. Incentive gifts will be given to those who complete the program. The program will begin on January 12th, but the application deadline is this week. So, if you would be interested in being one of the twelve, contact GLA today at 340-0937 to arrange to pick up an application.

Businesses interested in donating items for the incentive gifts or who would like to provide

sponsorship of the program are also encouraged to contact Kris Heeter at 876-2158 as soon as possible. This is a great way to make that New Year’s Resolu-tion to get back into shape a reality or to support others hoping to be healthier. Consider being a part of this incredible opportunity.

GUEST CONTRIBUTOR: TIM REED Hello, I’m Tim Reed, and I am honored and thankful to be able to share some information in Scarlett’s newsletter! Would you like to have more energy? Would you like to feel better? Are you hoping to be healthy this winter, and stay clear of getting the flu or a cold? I may be able to help you! Through the years I’ve been blessed with pretty good health, but every winter I would catch at least one cold. For the last two years, however, I have been able to kick the cold habit, and I feel better than ever! As far as I can tell, I’ve only made two changes. Firstly, I decide every day to feel healthy and happy. And secondly, I have been a regular eater of Nu-trilite Double X Vitamin/Mineral/Phytonutrient Supple-ments. I’ve tried other vitamins, but I had the hardest time re-membering to take them. With DX, I remember to take them because they give me energy and I believe they boost my immune system and help me feel better. If you didn’t know about Nu-trilite before today, then today is a great day! Over 70 years ago, Carl Rehnborg’s passion for op-timal health led to the creation of the first multivitamin/multimineral in North America, called Double X. He was a true pioneer whose commitment to nourishing soil, plants, and peo-ple has grown today into the

world’s leading brand of vita-mins, minerals and dietary sup-plements! The few hundred acres of farmland Carl deeded to Nu-trilite has grown into 7500 acres in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S., and today Nutrilite is the only global brand to grow, harvest, and process supplements on their own organic farms! They dehy-drate and process plants within hours of harvesting them, and package and ship them soon after production. This ensures the freshness and potency of the nu-trients in every supplement you take. They rely on Good Manu-facturing Practices, the latest in nutrition research, and conduct hundreds of in-process tests. They employ over 100 scientists in California, including pharma-cists. They participate in over 40 professional organizations de-voted to nutrition science, bio-chemistry, and phytochemical research. No other supplement company has standards and qual-ity like this, from seed to final serving. By the way, if you were won-dering, “phytochemicals” are plant or fruit derived chemical compounds. “Phytonutrients” refer to phytochemicals or com-pounds that come from edible plants. I get excited about taking these plant concentrates, and Double X has 20 of them. Every day I receive the benefits of al-falfa, kale, apple, asparagus, blueberry, grape, basil, oregano, cranberry, pomegranate, water-

cress, parsley, sage, rosemary, and other fruits and vegetables, and 12 vitamins and 10 minerals! There is no substitute for eating as many fresh fruits and vegeta-bles as possible, but how many of us eat what we are supposed to: 5-9 daily servings of fruits and vegetables? So that’s why a 2002 study in a leading medical journal recommends that all adults take a multivitamin every day to help maintain long-term health. In addition to Double X, Nu-trilite offers a wide variety of high quality supplements, drinks, and snacks, for every palette and every budget. To find out more and place an order, you can go to a website I have developed where you can order all the Nu-trilite products: www.treed.qhealthzone.com If you’d like a discount price, please call me at (812) 322-7187, and I can authorize you for wholesale prices! To find out more about Nutrilite, go to www.nutrilite.com Also, feel free to call me if you have any questions, or if you would like me to refer you to other people who are enjoying the benefits of the organic vitality in Nutrilite products, so they can share their experience with you!

To your health!

Henna has been used for centuries to color hair, dye clothing, decorate the body, etc. It is a plant and is, therefore, totally chemical-free. As a permanent hair color, it sits on top of the hair follicle and is considered conditioning by many cultures. It works best on brunettes, redheads, and to color grey in darker-haired folks.
