St. Franc is Church Rosary Rally October is the month dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Dealing with the pandemic and other challenges currently facing the Church and the US what a better way to pray than by reciting the rosary daily as a community of faith.

Starting October 1st, we will pray the rosary daily at 6 pm in front of Mary’s Grotto. We would like to have each ministry select 1 or 2 dates during October to lead the rosary as a group. Please encourage members of your ministry to participate and in addition please spread the message to your family and friends to attend..

On October 31st we will conclude the rosary with the crowning of our Lady followed by Benediction.

Please contact Lauro A Braganza @ 661-631-8877 or email: [email protected] to schedule your date. In praying the rosary as a group, you get the benefit of the total number. The Family that prays together stays together.

To Jesus through Mary. Thank you and God bless. Lauro A. Braganza Serving God and Church

Faithful During Pandemic Time

During this pandemic time, the last few months were tough for all of us in the parish, including our Vietnamese community. We were worried about many things: our jobs, our health, our safety, our life… Some of us even came into depression. Sadly, the church is closed, and we are not allowed to celebrate Mass inside. As a unique ministry of the parish, we knew that this is the time that we need God, our true Savior, more than ever, and thus our faith in Him has become stronger more than ever. It doesn’t matter how difficult the situation, we just wished to go to church. We wanted to attend Mass in our almighty Father’s house so we can encounter Him, talk to Him, share with Him our thoughts, say our prayers to Him, and especially we wish to receive Holy Communion.

Our wish was finally granted as the first outdoor Mass for the Vietnamese community was celebrated on Saturday 07/25/20, thanks to great efforts of many people involved in the planning and prepara-tion process. This was the first time ever we had Mass outside the church, and it was so beautiful and graceful. Everything just went as planned; the weather was not too hot and the sound system was wonderful. We had around 100 people attend our first outdoor Mass! Starting from the beginning week of September, we moved our mass from 7:30PM to 7:00PM for more convenience. The average number of attendants is around 130. It is a true blessing for us every week we have a Vietnamese priest from the Redemptorist Mission in Long Beach come to say Mass. On Saturday 08/15/20, we celebrated the apparition of Our Lady of Lavang. Since early September and continuing until now, we do Adoration for the whole community after each Mass as requested by our Bishop Joseph Brennan. It has been great to see everyone stay after Mass and join each other in those sacred and touching moments when we all pray together. It’s emotional. It has been a blessing from God! We are very grateful and extremely happy with our outdoor Mass. We highly appreciate the love, support and brotherhood that has been extended to our Vietnamese Community by parish leaders and staff, especially Father Theo Antony, Deacon Francis Moore and Daniel Berber. They have all helped us to make this happen. May God always bless our Parish! Faithfully yours in Christ, Henry H Tran

The Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos is a tradition that is celebrated in Mexico and other Latin countries as well as in many communities here in the United States. Here at St. Francis of Assisi Parish we celebrate All Souls Day, a com-memoration of all our faithful departed. It has

been said that we really never stop grieving our friends and family, we just learn how to breathe

again and live with the loss. For many years now it has become a St. Francis parish tradition to celebrate our “All Souls Scroll Mass”. A scroll is written containing all the names of people in the parish who have died in the past year. That

scroll is unfurled during the mass and blessed. The mass is not just another funer-

al...more a time of remembering, a time of hon-oring those we loved. This year please mark your calendars for Monday, November 2nd at

6:00 PM for our special scroll mass. Due to cir-cumstances of Covid 19 and the Governor’s mandate this year’s mass will be outside the

church in the West parking lot (along H Street).

Our funeral team wishes to accompany those who are grieving and to show the light of Jesus Christ risen to those whose hearts are broken. Our Parish embraces all who are mourning and gives direction for funeral

services. We give thanks to God for the deceased's life and hold family and friends close in prayer as we travel

together through these difficult times. Once again we find ourselves unable to hold funeral

Masses in the church at this time, however we are now able to hold funeral masses outside of the church,

much the same as our daily morning mass. Funeral masses can be held at 8:00, 8:30, or 9:00 in the morn-ing, this helps us to beat the heat. We will also contin-ue to provide graveside services, chapel services, and

schedule memorial masses for a future time as allowed. For any questions please contact Roylene See through

the Parish Office.
