FATHER COREY’S EPISTLE
♦ On Sunday, November 20, three of our parishioners, Mr. Eric Keener, Mr. Timothy Lavelle, and Mr. Richard Lawlor will be admitted to Candidacy for Ordination as a Deacon by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Frank J. Caggiano, STD, Bishop of Bridgeport, at the Church of St. Luke, Westport, CT.
Candidacy marks the end of the discernment period of formation and the Church formally acknowledges that they have a call from God for service as a permanent deacon (diakonos) in the Roman Catholic Church.
Our sincerest congratulations to Eric, Tim and Rick as they continue to prepare themselves spiritually, theologically and pastorally for diaconal ministry in the Diocese of Bridgeport. Please keep them in your prayers!
♦ During this month dedicated to All Souls, please keep our Faithful Departed in your daily prayers, and I encourage you to write the names of your deceased loved ones in our Book of Remembrance as the priest remembers them at each Mass he says. It is also a pious deed to visit cemeteries during November. I include a small prayer service you can say alone or with family or friends when you visit the cemetery:
All make the sign of the cross.
The leader begins: Praise be to God our Father, who raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Blessed be God forever.
All respond: Blessed be God forever.
The following Scripture text may be read:
We know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal to heaven. [2 Corinthians 5:1]
I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Romans 8:38‐39]
After a time of silence, all join in prayers of intercession.
PRAYER OF INTERCESSION
Leader: Jesus promised to be with those who call upon his name.
Trusting in his promise we say: R. Be with us, Lord.
Sure and certain hope of your faithful dead: R. Be with us, Lord.
Faithful friend in times of sorrow and doubt: R. Be with us, Lord.
Voice that speaks peace to troubled hearts: R. Be with us, Lord.
Beacon of light in moments of darkness: R. Be with us, Lord.
Merciful Redeemer and fountain of forgiveness: R. Be with us, Lord.
Enduring strength of all who mourn: R. Be with us, Lord.
Gentle rest for your pilgrim people: R. Be with us, Lord.
Let us pray as Jesus taught us: All. Our Father...

FATHER COREY’S EPISTLE
Leader: Lord God, whose days are without end and whose mercies beyond counting, keep us mindful that life is short and the hour of death unknown. Let your Spirit guide our days on earth in the ways of holiness and justice, that we may serve you in union with the whole Church, sure in faith, strong in hope, perfected in love. And when our earthly journey is ended, lead us rejoicing into your kingdom, where you live for ever and ever. R. Amen.
V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, R. and let perpetual light shine upon them.
V. May they rest in peace. R. Amen.
V. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. R. Amen.
Leader: May the love of God and the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ bless and console us and gently wipe every tear from our eyes: in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. R. Amen.
♦ If you haven’t seen these carpooling karaoke priests yet, stop what you’re doing and spend the next 8 minutes absorbing the awesome. The video features Father Keith Romke (left) and Father Kyle Manno (whose facial expressions are the highlight) jamming out to Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake and Burno Mars – among others – on their way to a Catholic youth summit.
It parodies the Carpool Karaoke videos made popular by “The Late Late Show” with James Corden, who picks up celebrities in his car and films them jamming out to the radio.
In the middle of their jam session, the priests pick up the boss man, Bishop David Malloy of the Diocese of Rockford, Ill., who shares his vocation story and how he feels about cats.
The video premiered at the youth summit, making Bishop Malloy an instant celebrity with the teens there. It already has almost 90,000 views on YouTube. You can find it on YouTube: Carpool Karaoke with Bishop Malloy. It really is worth watching, especially for kids.
♦ The Pope has offered a new list of Beatitudes at a Catholic Mass in Malmo, Sweden.
“The best description of the saints, their “identity card”, the Pope said, is found in the Beatitudes from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount, which begins, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.”
New situations require new energy and a new commitment, he said, and then offered a new list of Beatitudes for modern Christians:
— Blessed are those who remain faithful while enduring evils inflicted on them by others and forgive them from their heart.
— Blessed are those who look into the eyes of the abandoned and marginalized and show them their closeness.
— Blessed are those who see God in every person and strive to make others also discover him.
— Blessed are those who protect and care for our common home.
— Blessed are those who renounce their own comfort in order to help others.
— Blessed are those who pray and work for full communion between Christians.

AROUND THE DIOCESE DEFENDING OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY Now that the elections are over, we must keep in mind the gift of religious freedom and our duty to defend and exercise it as faithful citizens. If you haven’t done so already, please voice your opposition to the federal health care mandate by calling U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Mathews Burwell at 202‐205‐5445, and your elected state representatives. Let them know that the mandate is in violation of our First Amendment right to religious freedom.
The BETHEL WOMEN’S CLUB GFWC is once again sponsoring a community drive, from Oct. 29—November 21 to collect Christmas presents for the men and women in long‐term care who have bravely fought for our freedom. The items must be new, with original tags and packaging and unwrapped. A list of items can be found in the church vestibule by the collection bin. We are also supporting the Vet House and the Home for Heroes in Danbury, both of which are homes for local veterans, who were homeless. We ask these men to give us their specific requests, and therefore, we are gratefully accepting monetary donations to fulfill their needs. Checks may be made payable to the Bethel Women’s Club GFWC and sent c/o Geier, 15 Andrews Street, Bethel, CT 06801.
THANKSGIVING is only weeks away, and once again you have the opportunity to share with those less fortunate. Frozen Turkeys can be dropped off Mon.‐Fri. mornings until 11:30am in the freezer in the Parish Hall Kitchen. Monetary donations may be sent to: Brotherhood in Action, P.O. Box 581, Bethel, Ct. 06801. Please be as generous as you can as our food supplies are very low and demand is great!
