The First Sunday of Advent November 30, 2014

~ REFLECTION ~

Welcome to Advent, the beginning of

another year in the Church! How quickly time has

flown this autumn! Here we are, starting our

annual preparation for Christmas, even though the

television ads for Christmas began a month ago.

How do we reconcile these two worlds? How can

our Advent spiritual preparation acknowledge and

even benefit from the Christmas frenzy around

us? Maybe it is the alarm bell that we need to

hear, to alert us to the coming of our Lord.

Our readings today continue the ideas

expressed in the readings from the last two

Sundays: we must be ready and watchful. Of

course, what is different today is that we are

beginning a new season of the Church year. But

let us listen to God speaking to us through Isaiah:

“Would that you might meet us doing right, that

we were mindful of you in our ways!” Listen for

what God is asking of you today, as we begin this

new season of watching and waiting.

~ REFLEXION ~

domingos anteriores: debemos estar preparados y

vigilantes.

tus mandamientos”. Escucha lo que pide hoy de ti

Dios ahora que comenzamos este tiempo de

vigilancia y de espera.

Responsorial Psalm :

“Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.”

CHURCH BATHROOM RENOVATION PROJECT

Our physical space here, at St. Brigid, is in need of either renovation or replacement. We have not

consistently addressed these issues in the past. Parish Life is important to each and every parishioner, visitor

and guest. We want our “church home” to be inviting, welcoming, comfortable and attractive. St. Brigid

Church is “ours”, it belongs to each of us, not just the clergy staff. We must take pride in ownership and

work together to be successful in the planning and execution of all projects. Please review the plans for the

bathroom renovation and prayerfully consider what YOU can contribute to the effort.

Archdiocese offers program to empower children Child sexual abuse prevention includes empowering children by teaching them body safety rules and steps they can take to ensure their own safety. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles currently offers the following age-appropriate prevention programs for children: VIRTUS® Teaching Touching Safety; Good-Touch/Bad-Touch®; Archdiocese of Los Angeles Self-Protection Program Grades 1-12. Parishes/schools can select from the programs listed above. All these programs encourage parent involvement in reinforcing what their children learn by providing parent information and materials so that parents may fulfill their role as the “primary educators” of their children. For information call (213) 637-7460 or visit: www.laarchdiocese.org/org/protecting/safeguard/Pages/education.aspx
