Ministry Schedule for January 11 and January 12, 2020
The Epiphany of the Lord January 5, 2020 PG. 3
The Epiphany of the Lord completes the 12 days of Christmas in which the Church invites us to focus on the mystery of the Lord born among us. We recount the episode from the Gospel of Matthew that wise men from the east came bearing three gifts: Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Tradition names the three wise men: Kaspar, Melchior and Balthazar, who came from distant corners of the earth, who followed the star to find the King of Kings, who would bring salvation to the human race. The seeking, this journey, this sacrifice, reminds us that the search for God is unlike any other thing. Finding God, worshiping Him, offering gifts, is something worth stopping everything else we are doing to fulfill. These important men left their homes to search for the promised child and they found Him in a stable in Bethlehem. However, this did not deter them. They offered their gifts because the journey prepared them to be open to the truth that God wished to reveal. So many of us are hardened to the truth because we don’t give time to God in our lives. We don’t drop our normal activities to search for God. We don’t spend the time in prayer. We don’t read the scripture. We will skip Sunday Mass if it's not convenient: for our children’s sports, for entertainment, for work. God, for many of us, is not #1 in our lives. The three wise men dropped everything and went on a journey following the star to the Christ child in his manger of Bethlehem. They made Him their first priority and their efforts were rewarded. As we begin a New Year, may we dedicate time to search for God. May we think about what more I can offer God, gifts truly worthy of Him, not just spare morsels. Christ is truly with us. His love and mercy are available. If we seek Him in faith, He will not fail to reveal himself. May we make the effort, seek Him, and offer Him our gifts, because in offering Him what we have, He will give to us so much more - many blessings in this life and eternal life in the life to come.

RCIA: Adult Faith Formation DID YOU MISS ANY SACRAMENTS
ALONG THE WAY?…..
The R.C.I.A. Faith Formation Classes will
once again begin. If you, or a loved one who is
Baptized, and have missed a Sacrament along
the way or someone who feels a calling to the
Catholic Faith, consider the RCIA. This For-
mation Program provides education about our
Faith and works with the individuals towards
receiving their sacraments. The Sacraments
are given at the Easter Vigil Mass. You must be
18 years old and meet with a Priest or Deacon.
Feel free to leave a message and email address
at the Rectory for Deacon Richard or
Dr. Connie Salhany.
Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini
Some parishioners have asked to make a shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini in the
church to honor this local saint who served Our Lord so lovingly and tirelessly by serving the poor
and immigrants. I have heartily welcomed this idea provided that this project be fully funded by
donation. While some have pledged already to the project, I wanted to invite others to be a part of it if
they wish. We will be getting a statue, a pedestal and candle stand for the shrine. Once the funds are
prepared and things are ordered, we will work on having a dedication of the shrine, probably after the
New Year. If you are interested in being part of this project, please feel free to bring donations to the rectory and specify it is for the Shrine of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. Please make checks payable to Our Lady Help of Christians Church. St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, pray for us.

God of Abundant Gifts,
Show us where You want us to pour out our gifts,
in celebration of Your Life all around us.
When we see the darkness and fear it is too great,
fix our eyes on Your light,
Help us to walk in the way of the Magi,
Following the Star to the places where you are
breaking into our broken world.
Amen
