PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Dear Sisters, I don't know about you, but I'm so glad that spring is right around
the corner! Our chapter kept busy this fall and winter with events including a
chocolate-making party, our annual holiday celebration and gift exchange
[thanks to Charity Metz Schuller (AO ‘93) for hosting us!], and a visit from a
Camp Carolina Trails camper at our January meeting, which was hosted by
Mary Ann Walsh Akin (ZI ‘83). Camp Carolina Trails is a summer camp for
children and teenagers with Type 1 diabetes, and 16-year-old Lexi Burns, who
has attended the camp since she was in fourth grade, spoke to us about her ex-
periences at the camp. At our February meeting at Jan Thorpe White's (B
‘50) house, I and two other sisters shared a bit more about ourselves during a
program called "Get to Know a Sister."
We continue to contribute to the world's work in our community through phi-
lanthropy efforts led by Jeanette Drane Benjey (X ‘65) and Carrie
Wheeler (AO ‘94) . At our December meeting, sisters brought in donations

On February 11, 2015, Alpha Gamma Delta and the American Diabetes Associa-
tion announced a new relationship in order to help educate and raise awareness
of diabetes through our collegiate and alumnae membership.
"Education is critical for the prevention of type 2 diabetes and avoiding the
complications that can result from poor management of type 1 and type 2 dia-
betes, and we are thrilled to have Alpha Gamma Delta on board to help us fur-
ther our mission in stopping this deadly disease," said Suzanne C. Berry, MBA,
CAE, Interim Chief Executive Officer, American Diabetes Association. "By
providing members with opportunities for community service related to diabe-
tes awareness and education, this alliance will help us achieve these goals by
expanding our reach and impact."
To help build awareness, Alpha Gamma Delta members will join in community
service efforts by volunteering with local Association offices and will work to
educate and raise awareness of diabetes on college campuses and in their com-
munities via online and offline publications.
"Alpha Gamma Delta is proud and delighted to join with the American Diabetes
Association in a new relationship to leverage our combined resources to make a
greater impact in our communities through education and service," said Rie
Hoehner, International President, Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity. "By contrib-
uting to our world's work in this important area, our sisterhood will make a
significant impact in raising awareness about diabetes in the many lives affect-
ed by this disease every day."

of school and classroom supplies to support Crayons2Calculators, a nonprofit agency that supports students in
Durham's highest-need schools by providing school supplies to classroom teachers. This year our team raised nearly
$800 for Triangle JDRF during their Walk to Cure Diabetes, and we were able to donate an additional amount to JDRF
from the proceeds of our record-breaking pecan sale. We raised nearly $1,800 by selling 1,000 pounds of pecans. This
allowed us to not only donate more to JDRF, but also to make a donation to Camp Carolina Trails, the Alpha Gamma
Delta Foundation, and Shout Against the Whisper, an ovarian cancer awareness organization.
We hope you are able to join us on Saturday, April 18 for International Reunion Day! Our theme this year is "Strength in
Sisterhood," and we will celebrate with a luncheon at the home of Mary Ann Walsh Akin. More details can be found
inside this issue, and don't forget - you can send in your RSVP online through our Web site, www.agdraleigh.org.
Have a great spring, and I hope to see you soon!
