It is still one of the greatest documents ever written. Take amoment to just read it, and separate it from the historicalcontext and how this country was formed. This Declaration ofIndependence(http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/declaration_transcript.html), signed 236 years ago today, was in its essence,rebellious in nature. A huge FU to a King. The United Stateswas formed through dissent (and many would say violence,genocide, and brutality). But that is not what this post isabout. It is about a document that represented the collectiveminds of a band of white men who where living in the 18thcentury. Through action, they stood for something. There wasa call for equality, even though that equality was very limitedin 1776. Still, it was a start. The question for to ask: how doesthis document apply to us today in 2012? What does it say tous about Americans? Who abuses this document and who triesto be inspired by it? Who uses it to justify hate towardshumans and who uses it to promote true equality?

the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decentrespect to the opinions of mankind requires that they shoulddeclare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men arecreated equal, that they are endowed by their Creator withcertain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Libertyand the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights,Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their justpowers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever anyForm of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it isthe Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institutenew Government, laying its foundation on such principles andorganizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seemmost likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence,indeed, will dictate that Governments long established shouldnot be changed for light and transient causes; and accordinglyall experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed tosuffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves byabolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned forRedress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitionshave been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whosecharacter is thus marked by every act which may define aTyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittishbrethren. We have warned them from time to time of attemptsby their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdictionover us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of ouremigration and settlement here. We have appealed to theirnative justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured themby the ties of our common kindred to disavow theseusurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connectionsand correspondence. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the publicgood.

I'm not sure what you meant herebut in my opinion, most of Congress, SCOTUS, and the Executive Branch completelymisconstrue the Constitution because they interpret it while ignoring historical context.Some claim we can't know what the Founders meant and must interpret as best they can- baloney!
