The 5 Elements of a Story Puzzle

5.3.2 Identify the main problem or conflict of the plot.5.3.3 Contrast the actions, motives, and appearances of characters in a work of fiction.5.3.4 Understand that theme refers to the central idea or meaning of a selection and recognize themes.5.3.8 Identify the speaker or narrator in a selection and tell whether the speaker or narrator is a character involved in the story.

Materials needed:•Picture book•Six puzzle pieces, each with a different element of a story on it•Marker•Tape•Colored pencils•Laptop, only if you need to watch flocabulary video

Project Connection

Connects to Irwin Garden and P2P

1. As a group, read the picture book in the station basket

(each group will read a different book).

2. Together determine: plot, setting, character, theme,

conflict, and narrator. Fill out the puzzle pieces found in

the binder using the black marker. NOTE: If you have

trouble remembering what the definitions of the 5

elements of a story are, review:

3. Put the six puzzle pieces together to form a gardening

picture.

4. Color with colored pencils, if you have time.

5. Clean up station area.
