Mountain View Tennis Courts

A s you are aware, the deterioration of the some of the courts at Mountain View is an issue in that it has led to the closure of court #12

and could possibly lead to others being closed. Outgoing President Jim Marchisio, Deb McGeehan and I met with Rett and Joyce (board members) and Walt (facilities manager) from HOA2. They are fixed upon the path they have set which is 2026 to replace all courts. We suggested: 1. Replace one court at a time since the courts do not adjoin. 2. Overlay the bad

court(s) with asphalt. Walt indicated that the asphalt overlay would likely last 15 years. Neither idea was met with enthusiasm.

Preserve Courts

As you might know, I work at the County offices and our Community Development department has the upgrade application to add Pickleball courts at the existing Ridgeview site. Currently, the process of upgrading the site is continuing and Community Development has requested a new land survey. Rett told us that the HOA is waiting for Robson to complete their end of the bargain on several issues before they can move forward. Until this is completed, the Preserve courts remain Pickleball courts.

HOA1 Tennis Committee

Our club is overseen by a committee which appoints the Chair, who in turn appoints its board members. The committee also acts as a liaison to HOA1 for physical upgrades to the HOA1 tennis facilities. Linda Depew has been reappointed as Chair for 2021. She reported that the lavatories are currently in the process of being remodeled and should be completed in January. The lavatories had been vandalized and the fixtures were out of date. The cost was handled by the HOA1 reserves.

At the most recent committee meeting, I passed on to the members several requests: 1. More safety lighting at the east side of the office. It was suggested that motion sensor lights be installed. 2. Web cameras be installed that would feed to our website. The idea being that any member could see if courts are in use (in addition to the online reservation system), if the courts are playable due to weather conditions and for security. Linda responded she would contact the HOA1 board with these ideas. Because these are physical changes, the funds would be drawn from HOA1.

Reciprocal Agreement

Rett and Joyce mentioned the HOA1-2 reciprocal agreement as uppermost in the relationship of both boards.

Ratings System?

One of the goals of Organized Play and some of our social events is to generate matches that are competitive. In the past, the club has used various methods to match players with that idea in mind.

In re-doing the website, we ought to consider, how (or not) to implement into the system a means to automate the process. This issue needs input from our membership.

Clinic News

The STC board asked that the clinic email alerts include the name of the pro teaching the lesson. This information will also be available to the coordinators.

Door Locks

It was also discussed that the RFID security doors on the courts were not effective, as they are easily defeated by long arms. Linda will take that to the board. The initiative for the RFID gating system was from our SaddleBrooke Patrol team to control who was on our courts.

Did you know that our club has several videos on YOUTTUBE.COM? Enter SaddleBrooke Tennis into the search for those. Might be time to update videos ....

It is such a privilege to know this amazing lady and we are so glad she is a member of our SaddleBrooke Tennis Club! Do you know she is our most “senior” female tennis and POP player?! Loretta started playing tennis in the early ‘70s, playing on the public courts in Santa Clara, CA. She has such grace on the tennis courts and executes her shots in such a relaxed manner. Everyone enjoys playing with or against her. She and her husband Jerry moved to Sun City Vistoso in 1993 and then to SaddleBrooke in 2003. She participated in leagues up until about four years ago, but now enjoys the fun of playing with no pressure. POP tennis has been a wonderful transition for her which she plays frequently and has met great new friends. She does continue playing in her “Sunday Social” tennis.

Loretta Edgerton By Deb McGeehan

Loretta is an excellent seamstress and also keeps busy with the Embroidery Club, Quilt Club, Computer Club and is a member of the SaddleBrooke 2 Putters Club. When she is not doing any of that she can be found in one of our many pools swimming and socializing!! She has always been a gracious volunteer for our many tennis socials and will help out wherever needed. We are fortunate to have a member with such a great attitude and contagious smile! May we all be inspired to be like our “senior” tennis player!

Association Management Software

Your Committee to Find Appropriate Association Management Software and Replace Our Website While Integrating All Club Court Assignment Rules (clever acronym to follow) is hard at work. We’ve met once and held several discussions on an approach to developing a solution. The group is divided into five functions:

John Zipp is driving the EVALUATION process. This is where we take the input you have given us about features you’d like to see and search for applications that fill our needs. John will see that prospective apps are looked at for suitability and take us through a way to compare them and choose finalists. Carey Ricard is building a Request For Proposal that will be sent to the finalists so that we can determine which approach best suits the STC.

Riley Jackson and Ken Knapp are helping us make the transition from the existing WEBSITE to the new one. Our charge morphed from finding a court reservation system to building an integrated approach so that you will be able to find the reservation system within our website. Otherwise you would have had to go to separate sites for reservation and club related functions. The new site will include the functionality of the existing one and add many new features, so be prepared for it to look different.

Sandy Stettler and Nicki Manzanares are working on the software DEVELOPMENT phase. With the esoteric approach STC has for assigning courts – prime time, OP, membership status, league, court number, day of week, gender, ball machine/backboard, events and pros – we have a ten dimensional matrix to program. No over the counter system will be able to reflect our method, so we will have to find a company willing to do the development to reflect those rules. Nicki and Sandy will be working to communicate our needs to the developer and follow them through the process so that what they code is what we want. David Loendorf, who wrote the OPUS code, will likely find a role here.

Linda Foy will be working on the TESTING plan. Once the developer thinks they are done, we need to ensure the product works the way we intended. As we confirm that each of the features we asked for works, we will also be looking for unintended conflicts. We are putting into code the thought processes that our Coordinators currently use.

(We will still have the Coordinators after we have the app for other STC functions and to override the system for special circumstances.) Although we will be the only customer for the app, you can think of this as a beta test before going live.

Carey Ricard is also working up the DEPLOYMENT plan. Once we judge the app to fulfill our needs, we need to put it in service. There will be many configurable elements to the app and other housekeeping needs to address before we can go live. There will also be ongoing administration going forward.

Terry Rowell, Linda DePew and Nancy Frazer, while not on the committee per se, are giving us valuable input so that we can communicate our RULES to a prospective developer. This is a huge task that we need to do well by ensuring clear requirements.

A link to those requirements which we will be searching for and communicating to the vendors will be posted on our website. We will keep you up to date on our progress toward a solution that moves us from the antediluvian to the avant-garde.
