THE CHRISTMAS WONDER AND NEW BEGINNINGS

Christmas may seem to arrive slowly to the small child that eagerly

awaits with great ancipaon, but to one more mature in years it seems to

come in a blink of the eye. Truly, this has been a beauful Advent season and

Christmas. The plays, music, worship, gatherings, fellowship, receiving of sac-

raments, and opportunies of service have been absolutely amazing! This has

to have been one of my favorite holy seasons and yet here we are with the

brand new year of 2018. The slate is sll fresh and clean as we start over with

love, forgiveness, and opportunies that come with God and relaonships with

others.

May we all pause to reflect and give thanks to God and our Savior Jesus

Christ. The Bible has this amazing way of speaking about hope, rebirth, salva-

on, and new beginnings. God says to us, “Behold I make all things new!” As

much as we like the old and familiar, there is mystery, wonder, and freshness

when considering dreams, visions, and new beginnings.

Let us take up the gi5 of the new page and chapter of life God has given

and let us rejoice in His peace, presence, and power. The message of the Bible

always seems to declare… “The best is yet to be!”

May we join each other for worship, study, encouragement, and the

sacrament of The Lord’s Supper this Sunday at 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. as we re-

turn home to our normal worship mes and places. Thank you for your shar-

ing, love, and caring for Christ and His Church! See you at the holy place of

worship!

Yours in Christ,

Steve

FUMC FIRST LAMB PARENT HELPERS Thank you parents for helping with our little ones on Sunday night!!!!!!! I will lead First Kids (1st-6th grade) so I need someone to help with First Lambs (2-5 year olds). Shauni Barrier and Karen Screws have been AMAZING BLESSINGS!!!!! They come each week and teach the Lambs. I need a parent each week to help them or if Shauni or Karen can’t be there I will make sure we have an extra volunteer to lead this group! There will always be teaching material ready for you! Ideally the Lambs should into 2 separate groups (2-3year olds and 4-5 year olds) on nights when we have a full house. So hopefully with plenty of help we can separate this group during the lesson time. Our schedule usually includes snack supper, music with Mr. John, Bible lesson, craft, games, free play inside or playground time from 5:30-7pm. Thank you again for loving, teaching, and leading our lambs to know God’s love.

"Journey Through The Gospels" A Chronological Bible Study of the Life of Jesus Christ Written and led by Suzanne Harris “Journey Through the Gospels” will meet in the church library Sunday mornings at 10:00 for anyone interested in a Sunday morning Bible study and isn’t already involved in a Sunday School class. For thirty minutes we'll read and discuss a passage from our Bibles, working chronologically through the stories of Jesus ac-cording to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. That's it! No required reading before class. No homework. No putting someone on the spot who doesn’t feel comforta-ble reading out loud. No big deal if you can't be there every week. No feeling lost if you’re a beginner. No getting bored if you aren’t a beginner because we’ll be using the whole Bible in order to understand the culture and the events surrounding the era in which Jesus lived as well as the relevance of the passages in our lives to-day. Amazing things start happening when you really read and study those Red Letter Words of Christ. Want to know Jesus more intimately this next year? Join us in the church Library from 10:00-10:30 am beginning January 8th Bring a Bible if you have one or we can find you one if you don't.

A Mercy Minute

Being at the top of worldly success can make a long fall cushioned only by

Grace. From the outside - everything can seem just right while inside, a void of

shame, regret, and empness remains hidden. This week at Mercy Place, we

welcome Russell Kilby to share his tesmony; once a top luxury car salesman -

with humble recovery from addicon he is living in the restorave success of the

Savior's embrace. Pride will take a fall yet humility inherits a crown.

Blessings, Hardin

Music City Mission Memories

We were blessed with a winter mission team ready to sing, serve, and shine the light of Christ in Nashville this

past week. Our 23 FUMC students courageously stepped into many homeless/needy ministries, not just serving meals

or songs but connecng with new neighbors. There are no 'least of these' - only lost or le5 behind children of God. I

could not be more amazed, inspired, and proud of our young missionaries.

We are so grateful to Principle Kim Hass for hosng us at her High School which was the perfect staging area

for our Mission Calling. We began by serving & singing at the Belmont Church lunch while another group went out to

create a mobile soup kitchen on the street with the Isaiah 58 Ministry. We served another 50+ cold neighbors at the

St. John's UMC Community Meal that night. Day 2 took us to The LiDle Pantry that Could, an amazing independent

establishment providing food to over 200 needy families weekly. We stocked shelves with 2 truckloads of donaons

and met more new friends. Our lunch at The Cookery was much more

than a meal but included an amazing tesmony from the founder of

Lambscro5 ministries - BreD Swayn, an Australian who stepped out in

homeless obedience to create help, hope, and jobs for downtrodden

men. A5er a visit to the Upper Room Museum & Chapel, we set out to

serve alongside the Salvaon Army with a mobile meal set up under the

Jefferson Street Bridge on Friday night. Our last stop was serving & singing

at the Sat am breakfast in the Downtown Presbyterian Church.

Thank you Church for providing these opportunies for our Youth

to step out in service. Our students are bold in their belief and sincere in

their service. I encourage you to ask the youth about their experiences,

stories, and personal connecons with Christ found in the faces,

tesmonies, and hearts of the homeless of Nashville.

Blessed...very Blessed, Hardin
