JOBSITE Update

McAbee Construction mobilized to the CVEC Project in Dover Plains, NY on July 30th. We erected 140-tons of bent steel across three units for 18-modules, installed 16 of the 18 modules, and in December began piping interconnect welds. The remaining 25-tons of bent steel and two modules are scheduled for installation in January, 2019. Piping interconnects, including seven P91 chrome welds ranging from 3” to 24”, along with miscellaneous CS welds will continue into the Spring for an April, 2019 completion. We experienced a major snow that forced a site shutdown. Our onsite team from Tuscaloosa includes Jason Reece, Doug Butt, Max Holloway & Jason Kelley. Through our partnership with Bechtel, we expect this project to complete the job safely & successfully!

PLANT BOWEN:McAbee Construction mobilized to Plant Bowen in July for a CTMB project, with Jimmy Dickinson selected as the Job Superintendent. The project consisted of 700-feet of 24-30” carbon steel piping and the installation of three vertical mixing pumps. McAbee also installed 1,000-feet of stainless oxygen line, 1,500-feet of pre-quench piping, multiple steel platforms and instrumentation. Working in conjunction with the Pipe Fabrication division here in Tuscaloosa, we were able to make this project a great success. Project managers Mike Shoults and Adam Morrison handled all the pipe fabrication, Kevin Jones handled the paint and load out, and Local 72 Pipefitters carried out the field installation. A big thanks goes out to everyone involved on completing this project with zero recordables!

Project Manager- Ben [email protected]

PLANT MILLER:McAbee successfully completed the U2 Bottom Ash Conversion project. This is the final of four outages to convert Plant Miller to a dry bottom ash removal system. Ongoing work at Plant Miller includes mechanical piping for Babcock & Wilcox on its new water treatment plant, as well as the construction of the temporary water treatment plant at the ash pond. Peak manpower at Plant Miller is approximately 130 craftspeople.

Project Manager- Jeremy [email protected]

MERCEDES:McAbee’s Mercedes crew finished up another successful winter outage schedule where it completed multiple HVAC and piping projects within the plant.

PLANT GASTON:McAbee Construction successfully completed the U5 fall outage by taking on numerous environmental maintenance and overhaul projects throughout the plant. These jobs include expansion joint replacement, JBR sparger tube replacement, JBR mist eliminator replacement, ID fan rebuilds, and many additional projects. McAbee’s onsite maintenance team continues to perform conveyor repairs, and work on steam lines throughout the plant.

The RSCC project successfully wrapped-up initial construction and transitioned into start-up support and miscellaneous construction for Southern Company Services. We are also wrapping up work on the U1-U4 fly-ash forwarding system which has been ongoing since April of 2018. Peak manpower at Plant Gaston during the fall 2018 maintenance and RSCC outage was over 200 craftspeople.

Project Manager- Jeremy [email protected]

PLANT GORGAS:The McAbee team at Plant Gorgas is wrapping up its nine-month water treatment plant mechanical project, and is currently assisting Southern Company with start-up support and other miscellaneous activities. More than 35 craftspeople installed approximately 20,000LF of large-bore HDPE piping and related equipment in multiple areas around the plant. This new plant will treat every gallon of wastewater generated by the power generation process.

Project Manager- Jeremy [email protected]

UAB:Chiller Project – McAbee set two 3,000-ton chillers on January 7th. Flushing and testing of the main hydronic systems will commence once the final spool pieces connecting the chillers are finished. During the next few months, we will be setting electrical and control equipment and helping our subcontractors make it to the finish line with final equipment startup and commissioning in April, 2019.

Along with the Chiller Project, McAbee has been awarded three other projects with UAB that will be completed in the first half of 2019. This includes the addition of a deaerator to the steam plant, chiller replacements at their Biological Science building, and a dehumidification system retrofit in the research pharmacy.
