If you are reading this then I have succeeded in getting my first issue of the Chase Sunflower out!

Between moving office and setting it up full of finicky technology, this week has been quite a challenge. My head is spinning with new information about printer drivers, postscript compatability and operating systems.

A lot of midnight oil was burnt this week; I’m going to venture a guess that this is the first time the Sunflower has stayed open later than the liquor store! The good news is that it should get easier from here.

I surprised even myself by taking over the Chase Sunflower. Although I have a

background in newspapers, since moving to Chase in 2010 I have been completely dedicated to organic farming and the homesteading lifestyle.

Change is the essense of life though and I am keen to see the community through a different lens.

Putting this first issue together has been such a learning experience. I am shocked how fast the pages filled up; please stay posted for Council Updates and other items that I didn’t have time or space for in this issue.

I’ve had some feedback already about what people want to see in the Sunflower, but I’d like more! If there is anything you’d love to see included or if you are part of a community group that has publishable content, please get in touch with me. I’d like reports or columns from all different facets of the community - from the schools or other youth groups, churches, sports teams, hobby groups, volunteer/non profit activities and special events. Of course I wouldn’t turn down tried and tested recipes and jokes.

Despite my high stress level the past week, I am enjoying my office space at 721 Shuswap Avenue. I am hosting an “open house” at Sunflower Headquarters on Friday, January 16th from 3 - 6 pm. Come by, wish me luck, bring me a knick-knack for my office.

The walls of my office are freshly painted, but bare; I’m looking for artists to fill them up with sellable art. I would love the Sunflower Headquarters to be a creative hub in town.

A special thank you to all who attended and supported the CPR’s Holiday Train at Notch Hill on Monday night, December 15. The CPR presented Jim Chisholm, who is in charge of Sor-rento’s food bank, with a cheque for $4000. A crowd of between 900-1000 people donated close to 3500 pounds of food as well as cash donations.

Since approx. 2006 the Holiday Train has been stopping at Notch Hill, due to the efforts of Sue P. Moore and Marcha Ad-ams, from the Notch Hill Town Hall Association.

A Christmas raffle sponsored by the NHTHA, raised pro-ceeds, contributing to a new roof for the community hall. Prize winners were: Janice Darbyson, Adrian Romyn, Stacey Wil-liams. The 50/50 prize of $42.50 was won by Ian McLafferty.

Dave SkillenDave passed away peacefully on January 6, 2015 at the age of 62.He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Deb, his sons Steven (Kaitlyn), Colin (Lacey) & Cody(Laura), sister Bonnie (Murray), brother Randy (Verleen), precious grandchildren Robbie & Madison, as well as a new Skillen baby on the way. He will also be missed by Auntie Agnes. Brother & sister in-laws, nieces & nephews. Some of whom were very close to him.Dave was a loving man with a big heart & a great sense of humour. He was happiest when we was hunting, fishing, or just having a few beers with family &/or friends. This usually included playing guitbox & singing. Dave was known for his meticulous house painting skills & took great pride in his work for over 45 years. Our family would like to ex tend our Thanks to Dr. Cornel Barnard, for the compassionate care he gave to Dave.A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Chase Community Hall on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11am.

lagoon, which is a $1.5 million project.

Your Chase Heat Hockey Club was on a 6 game winning streak when they hosted the Summerland STEAM on Friday, January 10th. In a barn burner of a contest between two talented teams the STEAM got the only marker in

the 1st period. They followed that up in the 2nd with another goal to take a 2-0 lead. In the 3rd the HEAT came back with a pair, Kolten Moore from Tyler Mork and then Chad Wilde from Kaleb Boyle and Austin Willier. All tied up and nothing decided in the first sudden death overtime. In the 2nd overtime the visitors spoiled the winning streak with a highlight reel goal. The tie in regulation gave the local a point in the tight Division standings. Michael Byer went the distance between the pipes keeping it close, stopping 42 of 45 shots.

Then on Sunday the 11th the Division foes the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS came to AHMA for a 2:00 p.m. matinee. The Cariboo Cowboys hit to hurt from the opening whistle but the locals speed, tal-ent and durability won the showdown. Byer once again backstopped the HEAT. In the 1st Travis Beaubien popped one in from Moore and Mork. 100 Mile got that one back in the 2nd before Mork scored unassisted on a takeaway which turned into a breakaway. Then 100 Mile got that one back. In the 3rd the WRANGLERS took the lead before Beaubien got his second unassisted. Beaubien took hits, gave them out and scored twice to lead the HEAT. Once again sudden death overtime loomed and with 1:37 gone Captain Kaleb Boyle on the powerplay from Cody Hodges made history scoring the game winner. The shot heard around the rink as Boyle lasered his shot into the roof of the net to claim an All Time League Record for power play goals! With 12 games left to go in regular season games Boyle has scored 43 power play goals and done it in 135 games played. A feat not matched by some equally skilled young men throughout the years! The HEAT are very proud of the Williams Lake product!

ICE CHIPS: The HEAT are currently tied with the Sicamous EA-GLES for 2nd spot in the Division. The two rivals play Wednesday the 14th in the Houseboat Capital. On the 16th the HEAT are in Revelstoke to take on the GRIZZLIES. Next game at AHMA is Satur-day the 17th at 7:00 p.m. versus the Kamloops STORM.

CURLING CLUB DISHES BREAKIE - Linda Milner and Ada Kowalski serve up breakfast at the Chase Curling Club annual pancake breakfast last Sunday. 107 folks turned up for pancakes, sausage and eggs this year. The profit goes towards operating cost, helping to keep the club open for at least one more year.
