ChaseOn November 30th, 2015, at approximately

1:20 pm, a man walked into the Royal Bank of Canada branch in Chase, brandished

a long-barrelled firearm, and demanded money. After obtaining a quantity of cash, the man departed the bank and got into the passenger side of a newer white GMC SUV. The vehicle headed southbound on Chase St., and may have turned onto Hwy 1, however the direction of travel is unknown. The male was disguised, but described as approximately 5’10” tall, and 180-190 lbs. He was wearing a white hoody with a “Fox” logo on the chest, a multi-coloured balaclava, black pants and gloves, and carried a black fabric grocery-type bag. The second suspect driving the SUV was not seen. No one was injured in this incident. If you see, or know of, these suspects, do not approach as they are considered armed and dangerous. Call 9-1-1 immediately. Chase RCMP is asking anyone with information about this crime to call Chase Detachment at 250-679-3221 or Crimestoppers.

Armed robbery goes down in Chase

The Christmas season is upon us and as many people are enjoying parties and trying to complete their shopping, the Chase Hamper Society is preparing for one of their busiest times of year.The volunteers at the Chase Hamper

Society have begun taking applications for their Christmas Hampers and collections for non-perishable food is in full swing.While the Chase Hamper Society is a

registered food bank, and they are part of the food share program, they rely heavily on donations received from the community.

Volunteer Maureen MacDonald said that almost all of the food on their shelves has been donated from residents in the Chase area. With this support, the Chase Hamper Society has been able to provide 245 emergency hampers so far this year.MacDonald said the need for

hampers is different week to week, noting that sometimes they would only give out two and other weeks 15. The society serves clients in Chase, Pritchard, Turtle Valley, and Chase Creek, as well as the three surround bands.

OBITUARYEmily Maude McEachen

Emily Maude McEachen was born at Dysart, Saskatchewan on April 10, 1922. She passed away in Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, BC on November 23rd, 2015 at the age of 93 years.She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Bev Mackie of Salmon Arm, Kathy (Wayne) Tanemura of Prince George and Wendy McEachen of Chase; grandchildren, Ken, Jarrett, Steve and Mark; and her brother, Horace (Maxine) Dobson of Sorrento and brother-in-law, Les (Shirley) McEachen of Quesnel.Emily lost the two loves of her life, husband Ken in 2013 and Tippy, her four legged companion of 16 years,. She is also predeceased by her grandson, Christopher Scott Mackie in 2005.Emily was a veteran of World War II, joining the Air Force when she was 19 years old. This is where she met Ken while they were both enlisted. She was very proud of her service to our country and loved telling stories of her service. Emily loved to crochet and knit and made many doilies, sweaters, coats and afghans for family members and friends. She also loved antique furniture and was very active in different sports such as tennis, curling, bowling, and golfing.A private family service will be held at a later date. If so desired, contributions in her memory can be made to the charity of your choice.Online condolences can be sent through Emily’s obituary at www.bowersfuneralservice.comArrangements are in the care of Bower’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Salmon Arm.

The drinks were flowing, the balls were rolling, and the aroma of homemade chilli filled the bowling centre! You guessed it, it was Grey Cup Sunday! Congratulations to the Edmonton Eskimos on clinching the 2015 Grey Cup, but just as important, congratulations to all of the winners from our Grey Cup Bowling Tournament!!

Village Lanes played host to 30 bowlers this past Sunday, where they battled it out to make a little extra spending money just in time for the holidays! Bowlers came from Vernon, Salmon Arm, Kamloops, and Chase to enjoy a Sunday afternoon of bowling AND football! Congratulations to the top five bowlers from this event; Dwaine Vandevosse, Guy Alden, Shirley Danyluk, Terry Vandevosse, and the overall winner, Dan DeBoer.

to wish lots of luck to six of our youth bowlers who will be heading to Kelowna this Sunday to compete in the Youth Bowling Championship Singles Zone Finals! Good luck to Brook Mindel and Tanner Arnouse in our Bantam Divison; to Mikea Boadway and Alex Greenaway in our Junior Division; and to Natalie MacDonald and Zane Hallam in our Senior Division! Bowl your hearts out, and make us proud! The youth bowlers will compete against other singles from their division from across the Shuswap and Okanagan for the chance to win, and move forward to the Provincial Championships. OrganizatiOn Of the Week: Miss Chase exCellenCeA Service of the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce

The Miss Chase Excellence Program has been a valued part of the culture of Chase and Area for many years. It focuses on the self- improvement of young women and the development of future community leaders. Most years, Miss Chase Excellence candidates are grade 11 students but if the grade 11 class is small, both grade 10 and 11 girls are invited to participate.

Under the guidance of Jacquie Everett and Pam Hartley, who have volunteered for 31 years and 27 years respectively with the program, the candidates spend a very busy year studying, learning and practicing many skills they will use to benefit themselves and their communities throughout their lives. The girls attend classes from 3 – 5 p.m. twice a week to learn skills such as public speaking, etiquette, local history, modelling, hair and make-up skills, and car care.

Throughout the year, the girls and their program chaperones travel to pageants in 10 to 12 British Columbia communities where they present both prepared and impromptu speeches and participate in other pageant activities. At all times, they act as ambassadors for Chase and promote our area throughout the

province. When the local pageant is held, young women from other communities gather here, where

they are always impressed with our warmth and hospitality.

There is no cost to the girls who participate in the program. Each year various local businesses sponsor one of the candidates and the girls fundraise to cover their expenses by providing services to community groups and organizations. Any group can request the girls to attend or work at events and functions by contacting either Jacquie Everett or Pam Hartley.

At all times, they act as ambassadors for Chase and promote our area

throughout the province.

Submitted by An Elf in Chase1 cup butter, 2 cups brown sugar, 1/2 cup corn syrup boiled for five minutes, stirring constantly.

Optional: add 1 cup peanuts during the last minute.

Remove from heat, stir in 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp baking soda, pour over 24 cups popcorn in a large roaster and bake at 250 F for 45 minutes, stir every 15 minutes. Turn out onto flat surface to cool.

The Chase Hamper Society is always in need of food donations of any kind, however, MacDonald said that sources of protein such as peanut butter, cans of tuna or beans are all items they could always use more of.Monetary support for

the foodbank is another way for community members to help support the Chase Hamper Society. Both the Interior Savings Credit Union and the Royal Bank have accounts set up that people can donate too. The money raised in this form can be used to supply vouchers to Safety Mart, where Chase Hamper Society clients can purchase fresh produce.MacDonald said that all the money raised

in Chase is spent in Chase as well, noting the society ensures local businesses are supported. A money donation to the Chase Hamper Society not only supports the food bank services they provide, but it also helps with local economy.The Christmas Hampers include things

like chicken or turkey, potatoes, onions, and a list of other items needed to make a Christmas dinner.Those who would like to donate items for

the Christmas hampers, or the year-round emergency hampers, can do so by finding one of the many Christmas donation bins located throughout the community, or the permanent donation bin located at Safety

Mart.Applications for a Christmas Hamper

can be found at the Employment Centre, the deadline to apply is December 17th and hamper pickup is on December 23rd. The Doug Birks Division of the KIJHL is where the Chase HEAT reside as 1 of 5 teams. The others are the Kamloops STORM, 100 Mile House WRANGLERS, Revelstoke GRIZZLIES and the Sicamous EAGLES. 32 of each’s teams 52 Regular Season games are played in the Division. So this past spell of 3 games versus Division rivals has significant impact on all 5 Franchises and their potential playoff rankings.On Tuesday, November 24th the

GRIZZLIES played the first of two games in the week at the Art Holding Memorial Arena. There was no scoring in the 1st, in the 2nd Kolten Moore for the Heat scored assisted by Tommy Brown and Nolan Parr.
