THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD
First Reading: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 Daniel depicts God as a judge with many people standing before him. He also describes a man who came to him, and was given power over all other people. This power is described as everlasting and never to be destroyed. Second Reading: 2 Peter 1:16-19 Peter discusses how the disciples witnessed Jesus being honored and spoken to by God, fulfilling all the prophe-cies. He also reminds us that these prophecies were God’s words, delivered through a person moved by the Holy Spirit. Gospel: Mt 17:1-9 Jesus took three of his disciples to a high mountain, where Elijah and Moses appeared and spoke to him. Pe-ter suggested they make three tents, one each for Jesus, Moses and Elijah. While he spoke, a voice came from a cloud saying, “This is my Son, the beloved one; listen to him.” The disciples became very afraid and fell to their knees. Jesus told them to rise and not to be afraid. As they looked up, they saw only Jesus. As they left the mountain, Jesus warned the disciples not to mention this until he had risen from the dead. Although they did not understand, they obeyed.

PARISH FINANCES
AUGUST CALENDAR Please look for our August Calendar. Calendars
are available in the hall after all weekend Masses and on the grounds during the Feast weekend. The first drawing will take place on Aug. 13th.
How does it work? For just $20 you have 31 chances (one for each day of the month) to win $100. Even if you win on the 1st of the month, you still have 30 more chances.
ELECTRONIC GIVING What do I have to do to set this up? Many of you already pay your bills electronically – this is no dif-ferent. Contact your banking institution to set this up. The bank will send your parish a check for the amount you have indicated on the day you have se-lected. Some people do this weekly, others monthly. But I won’t have anything to put in the collection basket. There is a box to check off on each enve-lope that reads “I gave electronically”. You can use this to place in the collection if you choose. What benefit is there to electronic giving? Giving electronically on a set schedule not only makes it easier for you, it also assists the parishes when plan-ning budgets. The budget packet will also be a budget aid to you, letting you know in advance when there is a special second collection for the parish or a Diocesan or National collection.
ST. THERESA MEMORIALTREE Often a family will inquire about what they
need to do to have the name of a loved one added to the Memorial Tree located at the back of the church by the Confessional. Our Memorial Tree was “planted” in
2003, when St. Theresa began the expan-sion and remodel of our church. We are
blessed with such a beautiful church because of the generosity and sacrifice of so many parishioners. An-yone who donated $1,500 or more could add a leaf to the tree. If you would like to add a leaf to our tree, please call Cindy at the office at 401-624-8746 for more information.
St. Theresa: July 29/30: Budget Envelopes: 265 $5,733.75 EFT: 9 $ 360.00 Total: $6,093.75 Weekly Budgeted Expectations: $5,865.00 St. Christopher: July 29/30: Budget Envelopes: 79 $2,017.00 Loose collection: $ 255.00 EFT: 8 $ 245.00 Total: $2,517.00 Weekly Budgeted Expectations: $3,044.00
Thank You for your continuous support of your parish.
A bequest is a wonderful way to express gratitude for a lifetime of blessings! The gift you give estab-lishes a lasting legacy of love for others by helping the Church to continue its Catholic heritage through its many ministries.
PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Our second collection today is for Peter’s Pence, a worldwide collection that supports the charitable works of Pope Francis. Funds from this collection help victims of war, oppression, and natural disas-ters. Take this opportunity to join with Pope Francis and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers and sisters. Please be generous today. For more in-formation, visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence.
CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL Final Report 2017 Campaign
We have received thanks from the Diocese for the hard work and generosity of our Parishes for a successful 2017 Catholic Charity Appeal. The 2017 Appeal has raised to date $7,900,167.00 with 34,132 gifts received, for an average of $231.46. At the last reporting for our parishes we have col-lected—St. Theresa: $38,339 and St. Christopher: $22,964. We will continue to accept contributions over the next few weeks.
SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEK The second collection next weekend is our monthly Maintenance Collection. Please be as gen-erous as your means allow. We thank you for your continuous support of our parishes.

WHERE ARE YOU? Please let us know!!! PARISH CENSUS
ST. THERESA AND ST. CHRISTOPHER PARISHES
CENSUS UPDATE, St. Theresa: Aug. 2015: We started with 1,490 census forms needing to be updated. Jan. 2016: 672 census forms were mailed out, as part of Phase III. Mar. 2017: There are still over 500 families who have not responded. Are you one of the 500? St. Christopher: Aug. 2015: We started with 661 census forms need-ing to be updated. Dec. 2016: Census update completed. There are still 243 families who have not responded.
As you can imagine, this has been a long and ex-pensive process so we ask everyone’s cooperation. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT EACH FAMI-LY RESPOND. Do not assume that “they know who I am” or “I’m there mostdays”.
If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you have moved or no longer consider yourself to be members of St. Theresa or St. Christopher Parish. We will remove you from the parish census and fur-ther mailings. However, we will always keep your parish and sacramental records and they will always be available to you.
MINI RETREAT
WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Just as a small mustard seed can become a large and elaborate bush, discover how to encourage your mar-riage to blossom and provide a lifetime of joy by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Week-end. The next WWME Weekends are Sep 16-17, 2017 in Medway, MA and Oct 21-22, 2017 in Con-toocook, NH. For more information, call Stephen & Michelle O'Leary at 800-710-9963 or visit us at https://wwmema.org/.
Sharing our faith with others is a beautiful and challenging endeavor. As we have done in previous years we will gather for a mini retreat to focus on our own spirituality so that we can better share our faith. We are extending a heart-felt invitation to all who teach, or who have considered teaching, in any of our faith formation programs (traditional faith for-mation, sacramental prep, Vacation Bible Camp, Children’s Liturgy, Youth Ministry, Adult Educa-tion, etc.) Parents who are interested are also invited to attend since the most important faith formation happens within the family! The retreat will be Satur-day August 19th at Saint Theresa Church hall begin-ning at 1:00 pm and ending with the 4 pm Mass. Our retreat facilitators will be Deacon Tim Flanigan and Madge Thombs.
If you would like to join us please fill out the form found in the bulletin or at the back of each church. Let us know by August 12 if you are coming. If you have any questions call Madge Thombs at 401.339.5452 or email [email protected] Thank you.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Thank you for your attendance at my 55th anni-versary celebration. I appreciate all the gifts and pre-sents most of all. I have decided to regift the mone-tary donations to me to the St. Theresa and St. Chris-topher debt relief effort. Thank you once again. Until we meet again, Fr. Jack
