El Santo Evangelio Según San Marcos Marcos (Mc 9, 2-10) En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó aparte a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, subió con ellos a un monte alto y se transfiguró en su presencia. Sus vestiduras se pusieron esplendorosamente blancas, con una blancura que nadie puede lograr sobre la tierra. Después se les aparecieron Elías y Moisés, conversando con Je-sús. Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: “Maestro, ¡qué a gusto estamos aquí! Hagamos tres chozas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías”. En realidad, no sabía lo que decía, porque estaban asustados. Se formó entonces una nube, que los cubrió con su sombra, y de esta nube salió una voz que decía: “Éste es mi Hijo amado; escúchenlo”. En ese momento miraron alrededor y no vieron a nadie sino a Jesús, que estaba solo con ellos. Cuando bajaban de la montaña, Jesús les mandó que no contaran a nadie lo que habían visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre resucitara de entre los muertos. Ellos guardaron esto en secreto, pero discutían entre sí qué querría decir eso de ‘resucitar de entre los muertos’.

Meditación: Génesis 22, 1-2. 9-13. 15-18 Abraham se sentía atrapado. Ya el Señor lo había bendecido abundantemente y no dudaba de que lo haría de nuevo si le obedecía. Pero que sacrificara a Isaac era lo más difícil que le había pedido. Sin em-bargo, Abraham respondió a Dios diciendo “aquí estoy” (Génesis 22, 1); comprometiéndose a sí mismo y ya no había vuelta atrás. Aquel viaje de tres días hacia el lugar del sacrificio debe haber sido agónico: En silencio y dando res-puestas extrañas a las preguntas de Isaac. ¿Cuántas veces Abraham se volvió hacia atrás queriendo re-gresar a casa? Pero de alguna manera, confiaba en que todavía Dios haría algo bueno. Así que cuando llegó al lugar, le dijo a sus sirvientes: “… luego regresaremos” (Génesis 22, 5). Aún en esa hora oscura, él confiaba de alguna manera en que tanto él como Isaac regresarían. Observa que cuando el ángel interviene a último minuto, Abraham repite nuevamente la única cosa que le había dicho a Dios hasta ese momento: “Aquí estoy” (Génesis 22, 11). Estas palabras deben haber sonado muy diferentes ahora, tres desgarradores días después, cuando estaba a punto de hacer lo impen-sable contra su hijo. Imagina el temor, el cansancio e incluso el enojo en su voz. Sin embargo, aún ese momento, cuando su fe era por lo menos frágil, él se mantuvo firme y confió. Todos atravesamos momentos en los que parece que Dios nos está pidiendo lo imposible: Que acepte-mos una enfermedad terminal o una discapacidad permanente; que resolvamos un conflicto amargo y antiguo; que renunciemos a un sueño que atesoramos. La respuesta de Abraham, “aquí estoy”, puede parecer la cosa más difícil de decir. Pero este relato nos recuerda que Dios todavía nos ama y sigue ofreciéndonos su gracia. Así que, si sientes que apenas te estás sosteniendo de tu fe, recuerda a Abraham. Recuerda que Dios todavía está contigo, y aun cuando lo impensable suceda, repite lo único que él fue capaz de decirle a Dios: “Aquí estoy” (Génesis 22, 1. 11). “Padre, aquí estoy, confío en que tú nunca me abandonarás.”

The Holy Gospel According to Saint Mark (MK 9:2-10) Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses, and they were conversing with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here! Let us make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified. Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them; from the cloud came a voice, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.” Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone but Jesus alone with them. As they were coming down from the mountain, he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone, except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead. So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what rising from the dead meant.

Meditation: Romans 8:31-34 He . . . handed him over for us all. (Romans 8:32) Yes, God loved us so much that he did not spare his Son. But what St. Paul doesn’t mention in today’s passage is how persistent God was in handing Jesus over to us. Neither does Paul talk about how resistant we can be to this great gift. At Christmas, God handed over his Son to us as a gift of peace. Mary and Joseph welcomed him openly, and a few shepherds embraced him, but the rest of the world seemed pitted against him. Even Herod and all Jerusalem feared him and trembled at the news of his birth (Matthew 2:3). Then the Father handed Jesus over to us as a gift of wisdom: “This is my beloved Son,” he proclaimed (Matthew 3:17). He sent him to teach us how to live in love with him and each other. But rather than receive Jesus humbly, we questioned his every motive and were hard of heart and slow to believe. On the Mount of Transfiguration, God offered Jesus as a gift of glory: “This is my beloved Son,” he said yet again, adding an impassioned plea: “Listen to him” (Mark 9:7). Still, even Peter misunderstood the gift. He sought to capture Jesus’ glory as a static memorial rather than a living presence. God even used Pilate to hand Jesus over to us, this time as a gift of sacrifice: “Behold, the man! . . . Take him yourselves and crucify him!” Pilate cried. He didn’t even know that he was helping fulfill Jesus’ mission. But again, we rejected the gift: “Take him away!” we replied (John 19:5, 6, 15). On Easter Sunday, God gave Jesus to us again, this time as a gift of forgiveness and redemption. And every day since then, he continues to offer Jesus to us in the humble form of bread and wine: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Jesus is here. Accept him. Let him change your heart. “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but you still offer yourself to me. Help me to embrace you so that my soul may be healed.” Genesis 22:1-2, 9-13, 15-18 Psalm 116:10, 15-19 Mark 9:2-10

El Papa Francisco Convoca a un "Año de San José"

Con la Carta apostólica Patris corde (Con corazón de Pa-dre), el Pontífice recuerda el 150 aniversario de la decla-ración de san José como Patrono de la Iglesia Universal y, con motivo de esta ocasión, del 8 de diciembre de 2020 hasta el 8 de diciembre de 2021 se celebrará un año dedicado especialmente a él. Padre en la sombra, descentrado por amor a María y a Jesús

Siguiendo el ejemplo de la obra "La sombra del Pa-dre" del escritor polaco Jan Dobraczyński, el Pontí-fice describe la paternidad de José respecto de Jesús como "la sombra del Padre celestial en la tierra". "Nadie nace padre, sino que se hace", afirma Fran-cisco, porque se hace "cargo de él”, responsabilizán-dose de su vida. Desgraciadamente, en la sociedad actual "los niños a menudo parecen no tener padre", padres capaces de "introducir al niño en la experien-cia de la vida", sin retenerlo ni "poseerlo", pero ha-ciéndolo "capaz de elegir, de ser libre, de salir". En este sentido, José tiene el apelativo de "castísimo", que es "lo contrario a poseer": él, de hecho, "fue capaz de amar de una manera extraordi-nariamente libre", "sabía cómo descentrarse" para poner en el centro de su vida no a sí mismo, sino a Jesús y María. Su felicidad está "en el don de sí mis-mo": nunca frustrado y siempre confiado, José per-manece en silencio, sin quejarse, pero haciendo "gestos concretos de confianza". Su figura es, por lo tanto, ejemplar, señala el Papa, en un mundo que "necesita padres y rechaza a los amos", que refuta a aquellos que confunden "autoridad con autoritarismo, servicio con servilis-mo, confrontación con opresión caridad con asisten-cialismo, fuerza con destrucción". El verdadero padre es aquel que "rehúsa la tentación de vivir la vida de los hijos" y respeta su libertad, porque la paternidad vivida en plenitud hace "inútil" al propio padre, "cuando ve que el hijo ha logrado ser autónomo y camina solo por los senderos de la vida". A father “in the shadows,” centred on Mary and Jesus

Taking a cue from The Shadow of the Father — a book by Polish writer Jan Dobraczyński — Pope Francis describes Joseph’s fatherhood of Jesus as “the earthly shadow of the heavenly Father.” “Fathers are not born, but made,” says Pope Francis. “A man does not become a father simply by bring-ing a child into the world, but by taking up the re-sponsibility to care for that child.” Unfortunately, in today’s society, children “often seem orphans, lack-ing fathers” who are able to introduce them “to life and reality. Children need fathers who will not try to dominate them, but instead raise them to be “capable of deciding for themselves, enjoying freedom and exploring new possibilities.” This is the sense in which St Joseph is described as a “most chaste” father, which is the opposite of domi-neering possessiveness. Joseph, “knew how to love with extraordinary freedom. He never made himself the centre of things. He did not think of himself, but focused instead on the lives of Mary and Jesus.” Happiness for Joseph involved a true gift of self: “In him, we never see frustration, but only trust,” writes Pope Francis. “His patient silence was the prelude to concrete expressions of trust.” Joseph stands out, therefore, as an exemplary figure for our time, in a world that “needs fathers,” and not “tyrants”; a society that “rejects those who confuse authority with authoritarianism, service with servili-ty, discussion with oppression, charity with a wel-fare mentality, power with destruction.” True fa-thers, instead, “refuse to live the lives of their chil-dren for them,” and instead respect their freedom. In this sense, a father realizes that “he is most a father and an educator at the point when he becomes ‘useless,’ when he sees that his child has become independent and can walk the paths of life unaccom-panied.” Being a father, the Pope emphasizes, “has nothing to do with possession, but is rather a ‘sign’ pointing to a greater fatherhood”: that of the “heavenly Father” Pope Francis

Tampoco yo te condeno La sangre del perdón

“¿Qué has hecho? La sangre de tu hermano clama a mí desde la tierra” (Génesis 4, 10). Con estas palabras, Dios confrontó a Caín por el asesinato de su hermano Abel. Dios dijo que había “escuchado” el clamor de la sangre de Abel que le pedía cuentas a Caín. Siglos después, en la Carta a los Hebreos se dice que “la sangre con que hemos sido purificados… nos habla mejor que la sangre de Abel” (Hebreos 12, 24). ¿Qué es lo que la sangre de Jesús nos habla mejor que la de Abel? Esa es la pregunta que procuraremos responder en esta temporada de Cuaresma, y veremos que la sangre de Cristo nos comunica en realidad tres mensajes elocuentes: • Un mensaje de perdón • Un mensaje de sacrificio • Un mensaje de nueva alianza En los próximos cuarenta días, fijaremos la mirada en el sacrificio redentor de Jesús, cuya sangre brotó hasta caer en tierra, y en la Última Cena, en la que él ofreció a sus discípulos “mi sangre, la sangre de la alianza” (Mateo 26, 28). Veamos cuál es el mensaje que Jesús tiene para nosotros, un mensaje que puede conducirnos al gozo de la Pascua. ————————————————————— Yo te perdono. Tres palabras sencillas, pero llenas de significado. Decir “yo te perdono” es como decir “No te tengo nada contra ti. No quiero que este recuerdo doloroso nos mantenga enemistados.” Cuando dices, “Te perdono”, también estás diciendo “No me desquitaré.” No es solo la declaración de un hecho, es una declaración de intención, del deseo de sanar una amistad malograda. ¡Qué alivio es escuchar que alguien nos diga estas palabras, especialmente si nos sentimos mal por haber ofendido o lastimado al otro! Ahora bien, ¡imagínate cómo será escuchar que Dios mismo te dice esas palabras a ti! Imagínate que te promete no reprocharte por tus pecados y aliviarte de la culpa que sentías. Imagínate que te dice: “Quiero que nos reconciliemos.” El solo hecho de escuchar estas palabras, realmente escucharlas, es capaz de generar un cambio extraordinario en tu vida. Este es uno de los mensajes más importantes que el Señor quiere darnos en esta Cuaresma: convencernos de que hemos sido perdonados, completamente, totalmente, eternamente. Este es un mensaje

especialmente transformador si nos cuesta perdonarnos a nosotros mismos o aceptar que Dios nos perdone por algo que hayamos hecho. Para comunicarnos ese mensaje, la Escritura nos lleva a contemplar la Sangre preciosa de Cristo. Su sacrificio redentor —el derramamiento de su Sangre en la cruz— le infunde una realidad rotunda a ese perdón para nosotros.

Jesús, el Mesías que perdona. Sin embargo, antes de hablar del mensaje de la Sangre y la cruz de Cristo, primero conviene detenernos a contemplar la obra mesiánica de Jesús y aquello que lo llevó al Calvario. Desde el principio, él anunció que el camino para recibir el Reino de Dios era el arrepentimiento, la renuncia al pecado y la petición de la misericordia de Dios. El hecho de que Jesús proclamara el perdón del Altísimo fue una de las razones principales por las cuales algunos de los jefes de Israel se le opusieron con tanta virulencia. Por supuesto, sabían que Dios es misericordioso con quienes se arrepienten; pero lo que no aprobaban era la liberalidad con que Jesús ofrecía esa misericordia. Vieron que perdonaba a quienes cometían adulterio en forma flagrante, a los recaudadores de impuestos que traicionaban a su pueblo y a cualquier otra clase de pecadores. ¡Incluso perdonó a un paralítico a quien nunca había visto antes y sin comprobar si estaba en realidad arrepentido de sus pecados! (Marcos 2, 1-12). La forma usual en que Jesús ofrecía la misericordia de Dios y su deseo de perdonar aun el peor de los pecados era motivo de escándalo para las autoridades, pues pensaban que él era demasiado tolerante con el pecado y demasiado condescendiente con los pecadores. ¡Era como si estuviera abriendo las puertas del Reino para todos! Para ellos, era seguro que un hombre justo evitaría a los pecadores en lugar de mezclarse con ellos, y sin duda esperaría a que vinieran con señales de penitencia antes de declararlos perdonados. Pero lo más importante, por lo menos para ellos, era que ¡Jesús no tenía ninguna autoridad para perdonar a los pecadores! No obstante, cuando anunciaba la misericordia de Dios y acogía a los pecadores, Jesús movía el corazón de las personas y así captaba su interés. Les mostraba que no tenían que convencer a Dios de que los perdonara; sino al contrario: era Dios quien trataba de convencer a la gente de que su mayor deseo era perdonarlos. Su misericordia y su perdón estaban plenamente disponibles para todos; la única pregunta era si la gente era lo suficientemente humilde como para arrepentirse y recibirlos.
