We are now in the last two months of the year which are usually jam-packed with foot-ball holiday events and ugly sweater parties It the middle of all of this excitement LWEA also has many events happening right now We are working on participating in two conferences this year We are currently plan-ning for the joint LWEALouisiana Con-ference on Water Supply Sewerage and Industrial Wastes (Louisiana Conference) We have been working to develop a program that includes technical topics that appeal to a broad range of our members and do not forget about the Operations Challenge which will be held at the Louisiana Conference The conference will be held March 14-17 2016 and will be at the Hilton Hotel and Shreveport Convention Center If you are in-terested in presenting or would like a booth please contact either myself at Adriennemillsimpalaterminalscom or Joanne Massony at Joannemassonyveoliacom Space is limited so do not hesitate We would love to have you participate in the conference For more information visit wwwlouisianaconferenceorg
This year is the first year that we have also decided to participate on the planning committee for the Louisiana Solid Waste Association (LSWA) Environmental Con-ference This conference will be held at the Cajun Dome Convention Center in Lafay-ette Louisiana from March 16-18 2016 We will be hosting the annual golf tourna-ment which will be held on March 16th

In addition to our conferences we are also continuing to provide additional activities for our members such as our monthly lun-cheons In October we were lucky enough to have Dr Denise Reed Chief Scientist from The Water Institute of the Gulf speak to us on ldquoScience to Support Coastal Restorationrdquo and in September Mr Brent Lanzenby of Geosyntech Consultants spoke on the ldquoCur-rent Understanding of Anaerobic Ammo-nium Oxidation (Anammox) ndash Wastewater Treatment Application and Beyondrdquo Many thanks to both of you for speaking to our group Look for an email soon for updates on our next speaker and topic We have tons of activities ongoing and would love to get our members more in-volved We are looking for more people to join a committee or just donate a couple hours of your time to help keep our orga-nization successful There are many differ-ent committees and Irsquom sure you can find a right fit for you Contact one of your LWEA Officers for more information

The Louisiana Water Environment Association has established a scholar-ship program to encourage and assist qualified individuals in their pursuit of a degree which leads to a career in the environmental field LWEA intends to award three scholarships honoring former members of LWEA to defray the costs of tuition fees books and school supplies The three scholarships in the amount of $1500 each are
Frederick G Deiler Memorial Scholarship
Kenneth L Keffer Memorial Scholarship
Harold Norman Memorial Scholarship
LWEA reserves the right to revise withhold or reduce the number of scholarships depending upon the quantity and quality of the applica-tions received Scholarships will be forwarded to the University for the recipient to use during the next (Fall) semester or quarter In addition the scholarship recipients will be awarded a complimentary one-year student membership in the national Water Environment Federation and in LWEA
A complete application must be received by the LWEA Scholarship Selection Committee by April 1 2016 at the following address

SCHOLARSHIP Program RequirementsLWEA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
In order to be considered the applicant
1 Must be pursuing either a baccalaureate or masters degree at a college or university within Louisiana2 Must be a full-time student and resident of Louisiana3 Must have at least a B average in all course work (30 on a 40 scale)4 Must be at least a Junior (undergraduate) and no higher than a Masterrsquos level candidate during the year of award5 Must have at least two semesters (three quarters) of course work remaining toward a qualifying degree at the time of award and6 Must be majoring in an environmental related curriculum in engineering physical or natural science or public health
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to apply for the LWEA scholarships the applicant must submit the following1 General Information - A brief application containing the applicants name address (mailing and permanent) telephone number university attending and dates of at-tendance degree sought and overall Grade Point Average Briefly describe your need for this scholarship (please include the of tuition covered by other grants or scholarships
the names and amounts of any other grants or scholarships applicable during the award period of the LWEA scholarship)
2 Resume - Pertinent information on environmentally related course work honors and achievements publications presentations and extracurricular activities (both on-campus and off-campus organizations)
3 Narrative - A short essay (not less than 50 and no more than 200 words) which demonstrates the applicants desire to preserve and enhance the water environment of Louisiana by setting forth the applicants degree objectives career goals and personal interests
4 Official UniversityCollege Transcript(s) - A copy of your official college transcripts For applicants continuing an undergraduate degree program the transcript must show all undergraduate course work through the Fall semester (quarter) of 2015 For applicants entering into a post-graduate degree program the transcript must show all under-graduate course work leading to a baccalaureate degree and a letter of acceptance to a graduate environmental program meeting the minimum requirements For applicants continuing a post-graduate degree program the transcripts must show all undergradu-ate course work leading to a baccalaureate degree and all post-graduate course work through the Fall semester (quarter) of 2015
5 Personal Reference - Recommendation of the applicants major professor or depart-ment head as appropriate attesting to the applicants academic experience

The weather is slowly starting to change as we get further into autumn and winter begins to approach This is the time we get excited about frying turkeys making the first gumbo of the year and just keeping warm by a fire This is also the time when injuries caused by fires increase Nearly 47000 fires occur during the winter holidays According to the US Fire Administration on Thanksgiv-ing Day alone more than 4000 fires happen Here are a few tips to help you stay safe during the autumn seasons
bull Stayinthekitchenwhenyouarecookingneverleaveyourstove unattended when cooking
bull Keepdeepfryersawayfromwallandfreeofmoisture Large turkey fryers should be used outside

The Louisiana Water Environment Association has established a scholar-ship program to encourage and assist qualified individuals in their pursuit of a degree which leads to a career in the environmental field LWEA intends to award three scholarships honoring former members of LWEA to defray the costs of tuition fees books and school supplies The three scholarships in the amount of $1500 each are
Frederick G Deiler Memorial Scholarship
Kenneth L Keffer Memorial Scholarship
Harold Norman Memorial Scholarship
LWEA reserves the right to revise withhold or reduce the number of scholarships depending upon the quantity and quality of the applica-tions received Scholarships will be forwarded to the University for the recipient to use during the next (Fall) semester or quarter In addition the scholarship recipients will be awarded a complimentary one-year student membership in the national Water Environment Federation and in LWEA

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
In order to be considered the applicant
1 Must be pursuing either a baccalaureate or masters degree at a college or university within Louisiana2 Must be a full-time student and resident of Louisiana3 Must have at least a B average in all course work (30 on a 40 scale)4 Must be at least a Junior (undergraduate) and no higher than a Masterrsquos level candidate during the year of award5 Must have at least two semesters (three quarters) of course work remaining toward a qualifying degree at the time of award and6 Must be majoring in an environmental related curriculum in engineering physical or natural science or public health
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to apply for the LWEA scholarships the applicant must submit the following1 General Information - A brief application containing the applicants name address (mailing and permanent) telephone number university attending and dates of at-tendance degree sought and overall Grade Point Average Briefly describe your need for this scholarship (please include the of tuition covered by other grants or scholarships
the names and amounts of any other grants or scholarships applicable during the award period of the LWEA scholarship)
2 Resume - Pertinent information on environmentally related course work honors and achievements publications presentations and extracurricular activities (both on-campus and off-campus organizations)
3 Narrative - A short essay (not less than 50 and no more than 200 words) which demonstrates the applicants desire to preserve and enhance the water environment of Louisiana by setting forth the applicants degree objectives career goals and personal interests
4 Official UniversityCollege Transcript(s) - A copy of your official college transcripts For applicants continuing an undergraduate degree program the transcript must show all undergraduate course work through the Fall semester (quarter) of 2015 For applicants entering into a post-graduate degree program the transcript must show all under-graduate course work leading to a baccalaureate degree and a letter of acceptance to a graduate environmental program meeting the minimum requirements For applicants continuing a post-graduate degree program the transcripts must show all undergradu-ate course work leading to a baccalaureate degree and all post-graduate course work through the Fall semester (quarter) of 2015

The weather is slowly starting to change as we get further into autumn and winter begins to approach This is the time we get excited about frying turkeys making the first gumbo of the year and just keeping warm by a fire This is also the time when injuries caused by fires increase Nearly 47000 fires occur during the winter holidays According to the US Fire Administration on Thanksgiv-ing Day alone more than 4000 fires happen Here are a few tips to help you stay safe during the autumn seasons
