Dear Dr. Wriston:
I do not feel that in the few moments after the luncheon to-day I could adequately express to you the appreciation of the Bond Cluband my own personal thanks for your kindness in speaking to us today.I hope the realization of the profound effect your talk had will make youfeel that the effort was worthwhile.
In the short time that I have been back at the office I havereceived a number of telephone calls requesting copies of the speech andeveryone is profoundly moved and influenced by what you said.
We are arranging, through Mr. Bauer, to get a large number ofthe corrected copies of the speech for distribution to the membership ofthe Bond Club.
I am afraid that one result of your speech may well be furtherattempts to impose on your time and generosity - I have already been askedby two friends of mine, one a prominent lawyer and the other a retiredbanker, whether it might not be possible at some future date to get youfor dinner with the hope that you may be able to tell some of us how wecan be of direct assistance in helping you in the great work that you aredoing.
Your speech profoundly moved us and we all are very grateful.
Sin ly,

Dear Dr. Wriston:
I was so much impressed by your speech
before the Bond Club today that if you have available
copies for distribution I should like very much to have
one. I think Mrs. Bollard would be much interested in
reading the speech and I should like to give her the
opportunity of doing so.

My dear Dr. Wriston:
As one of those who had the privilege of
listening to your eloquent speech before The Bond
Club, I am writing to say that everyone left the
meeting with renewed faith and a determination to
see the thing through.
What you said about the defeatism of the
businessman in politics is all too true.
Believe .me
Sincerely yours,

Tear Ur. Fosters
Since I have just now returned from meetingsof the American Council on Educationin Washington*your cordial letter of December 17 has only now cometo my attention.
Besides thanking you for the kind things whichyou said about my talk to the Bond Club last Wednes-day * I want to express my appreciation to you forthe hospitality you showed me on that day. I cer-tainly enjoyed imensely the opportunity to meetand talk with you and with so many of the members ofyour organization.
I had intended to ask that you send me a copyof the stenographic report of my address, since incertain spots i did not follow my manuscript tooClosely. However * with the unfailing thoughtfulnesswhich you and your colleagues in the Bond Club haveshown me, Hr. Scarborough has already been goodenough to forward two copies to me.
With kind regards,
Sinnerely yours.

6th January 1942.
ay dear Dr. Wriston -
Some one has sent me a reprint of your address before
the New York Bond Club, entitled "Unity for War and for Peace".yer
It is stimulating, comprehensive, and in every aspect note-
worthy. I wish_it could be brought to the attention of all
our citizens. The danger to the fundamentals upon which our
Government rests and from which such security and happiness have
resulted, has become so great in the past nine years that there
are many who are coming to believe that the end of representa-
tive government in the United States is approaching.
It is an added portent that our involvement in pre-
paration for war, and now in its conduct, has diverted the
popular mind from the Constitutional dangers that threaten.
Public utterances such as yours sholad arouse the national
consciousness to the fact that perils, gr gatgr than the war itself . _ _
are about
Very truly,
Drury Wi Cooper.

Dear Mr. Cooper:
It was indeed kind of you to write
MB as ycm did concerning my talk, "Unity
for War and for Peace. Such 4nquaiified
approval of one's efforts is heartening
in times like these.
Sincerely yours,
Henry M. Wriston

PRESIDE.,
June 1st, 19143
Dear Dr. Wriston:
I have always been a greatadmirer of your speeches and writingsand there is one particular speech ofyours, which you made late in 19)41, whichI have read and re-read with ever in-creasing interest and appreciation. That speech was one entitled "Unity ForWar and For Peace", and I hope that youwill see fit to repeat and reemphasizethe points which you made in that speechas often as possible because it is sonecessary to have constructive thoughtsreiterated in order to get them acceptedby any substantial number of people.
It has seemed to me that yourthought in this speech combined to asuperlative degree the idealistic andpractical point of view, and I hope that
