 Meet Jim O’Neal, '95President/Owner, O’Neal Builders

Established the O’Neal Scholarship

“I loved my experience at IllinoisWesleyan, and I owe a great deal of mysuccess to the education I received and the relationships I made during mytime on campus.

I didn’t receive any financial aid, but I know the great majority of myfriends got some form of assistance to attend—and I know close to 90percent of current students receive aid. That’s why I wanted to createmy own scholarship fund, to help students just like those who made mytime atWesleyan so meaningful.

Many of my friends from college are doing great things today, and Idon’t know if they always give enough credit toWesleyan for giving usthe tools to be successful. That’s the other reason I’ve created thisscholarship—I hope to be a model for my peers in giving back to aplace that helped shape us into who we are today.”

Meet Thomas Schroeder, '09Parent Fund Recipient

“We all have a person in our lives that we believe we could not live with-out. For me, that person was my father. He was the first person I would goto with my joys and sorrows, accomplishments and troubles. He was thegreatest influence in my life.

I lost my dad in 2006 to a heart attack, and it was undoubtedly the hardestthing I will ever face in my life. At the same time, the chance to stay here andgraduate from this wonderful institution is among the best gifts I will everreceive. Through families like yours who support The Parent Fund, myeducation here has been made possible. For that, I am forever grateful.”
