The analytical column, pump head and fluidics fittingsare manufactured from a combination of inert ceramicand polymer PEEK to eliminate contamination andensure longevity of instrument operation. The cationexchange resin is extremely robust and can beregenerated to maintain optimum performance givingan almost infinite lifetime. Elution buffer programmingis totally flexible with a selection of up to six bufferscontrolled via the PC allowing any number of steps,including pulsing techniques for generation ofmicrogradients and stepwise gradients. The instrumentis also equipped with a post analysis system flush whichcleans the reaction coil and flow cell and removes anytrace of residual chemicals. These features will provideyou with the most flexible system available today withthe ability to grow as your applications evolve.

Biochrom 30 Series use computer-controlled 32-bitsoftware operating in the Microsoft™ Windowsenvironment, providing the user with real timeinformation and on-line monitoring of the status of theinstrument. A buffer usage monitoring function givesthe user a reminder to top up buffers and reagentbefore running a series of samples. Standard analysisprograms are stored via a network or on hard disk andcan be used as the basis for building up a library foreach and every specific need. A calculator-style functionoperated via the mouse or keypad is used for programinput and editing. This provides flexible and extensiveprogramming of buffers, flow rates and temperaturesgiving the instrument the ability to run a large numberof programs day or night without user intervention.The sample log keeps a record of all the samples loadedand the analysis program may be copied and printed togive a daily or weekly record.

Chemicals and Consumables

Biochrom chemicals are manufactured from highquality materials and subjected to rigorous controlprocedures, under the ISO 9001 Quality System.Our buffers are guaranteed to give accurate andreproducible results for up to 3 years frommanufacture, provided the storage conditions areadhered to. All reagents have been formulated sothey no longer require cooling, providing stablechemistry with ease of use.

Biochrom 30 Series is supplied with the appropriatechemical kit for the system ordered. These kitscontain the chemicals and consumables needed formost routine analyses. Kits or individual buffers andconsumables may be purchased to enable continuityof analysis. In use on the instrument, the buffers anddetection reagent are stored under an inertatmosphere to ensure stability.

Columns

Biochrom 30 Series is supplied complete with theanalytical column of your choice. For high-speedanalysis, select from a range of high-performancecolumns. When perfect separation is essential,choose from a range of high-resolution columns.Manufactured from PEEK material, the columns arefree from corrosion and metal contamination and arepacked with optimally sized, cation-exchange resin.The columns are attached with finger-tight fittings sono special spanners are required to ensure a leak-freeseal. Precise temperature programming within therange 20–99 ºC is rapidly achieved using Peltierelements to provide the necessary heating andcooling for the column.


Autosampler

The autosampler gives customers the ease-of-use ofan injection straight from the vial with excellentreproducibility of sampling. Up to 84 samples andthree large vials for transport liquid can be loadedand stored on the standard refrigerated carousel.Sample volumes can be programmed from 1 µl to5000 µl depending on the loop fitted, with up tonine injections per vial. Samples can be loaded inthree possible ways: Full flushed loop, partial loop filland microlitre pick up. These injection methods havereproducibilities of 99.7%, 99.5% and 99%respectively (over 10 µl). Advantages - no samplewastage, wide loading range etc. The standard 1.8ml vials are suitable for most purposes but 300µlreduced volume vials can also be used where onlysmall sample volumes are available. Using Biochrom30 Series control software, the functions of theautosampler are controlled so that vial number,sampling method and injection volume are allspecified in the sample list editor.

Electronic Ceramic Pumps

The new ceramic pumps give total control of theflow rate via thecontrol software. Themetal free pumpingsurfaces ensureconstant flow, lowpulsation and eliminatecorrosion. Very littlemaintenance isrequired because allthe pumps have anautomatic piston flushsystem.

Lithium High Performance Columns perform a fullroutine analysis of physiological fluids, enabling thedetermination of up to 53 different amino acids,including physiologically important amino acids forearly detection of hereditary metabolic disorders andthe effectiveness of nutrient absorption.

The Biochrom 31 offers full automation for the fastand reliable quality/authenticity analysis of genericdrugs and infusion fluids to a high standard thatsatisfies legislation. Long-life columns can toleratevarious matrices and a high-salt content in theanalysis of infusion liquids and recombinant orsynthetic peptides.

Process control and authenticity testing

The ability of Biochrom 31 to rapidly deal withcomplex samples, requiring virtually no samplepreparation makes it a powerful quality-controltechnique for the analysis of soft drinks andbeverages.

Analyses of complex hydrolysates such as oxidizedfood or feedstuff samples are easily accomplishedusing Oxidized Feedstuff High Performance PEEKColumn with a buffer kit specially formulated for thisapplication. This system meets the requirements of

the standard methods from AOAC and the EUCommission Directive 98/64/EC. Limiting amino acidssuch as lysine, threonine, cystine and methionine maybe rapidly identified to enable adjustments to theformulation of feedstuffs.


BioSys Software Control

The system is operated via an advanced graphicaluser interface which shows the instrumentsoperational information in real time and is fullyintegrated with the data-handling software.

The data-handling software enables researchers tocreate methods, design custom reports, viewcalibration curves, acquire and process data, createand run batch sequences all from a single window.Simultaneous data acquisition and processing can beperformed while you use the software to developother methods or manipulate data. A full range ofgraphic capabilities is available including split-screenchromatogram views, zoom, multiple parameterannotation, integration tool bar, and colour selectionas well as selection of tiled or cascaded windows.

Customised Reports

The system can perform simple or complexcalibrations with curve- fitting programs includingpoint-to-point, linear regression, weighted linearregression, quadratic and cubic. Peak tables may alsobe presented graphically. The retention times areentered and peak identification windows arecalculated automatically. Peak names, referencepeaks, internal standards, calibration values and otherinformation can be entered via the keyboard. Datacan be easily exported to any number of alternativeprograms or directly into other Windows applications.The system is easily networked for secure datastorage and has the facilities to assist with yourregulatory requirements.

BioSys enables users to customise reports to satisfythe individual needs of their laboratory.

This is easily achieved by the use of dropdowntemplates and style guides to produce high qualityfinal reports.

Liquid DispensingAs sample numbers increase and sample volumesdecrease, there is a growing requirement todispense low volumes of liquids rapidly, accuratelyand reproducibly. Biochrom's liquid dispensersmeet these needs ideally, with units for two or six,any well format, microtitre plates and the ability todeliver volumes of liquid down to two microlitresusing a non-contact delivery technique, therebyeliminating cross contamination.

Gel ElectrophoresisGel Electrophoresis remains one of the mostimportant techniques in the life sciences.
