POTENTATE ELECT “2016”

WESLEY E LORD

Thank you to the Nobles of Bektash Shrine who have given me the honor to serve as Potentate for the year 2016. I will do my best to live up to your confidence and expectations. The theme for the year is “Brightening the World of Children”.

Here it is, December with 55 degree weather and wish it would last awhile but we all know it will not.

The Installation is set for the weekend of January 15-17, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nashua, NH. Friday night there is a buffet dinner with a Beach Party theme and DJ for danc-ing. Saturday has a First Section in costume at 9:30 AM, before which the Temple will be open for the bal-loting on 3 candidates. Full details of the day and night activities are on pages 26-27. The Chairpersons for the Installation are Noble John Fla-herty and Lady Teresa, with Ill Tom Brison, PP and Lady Marilyn assist-ing. Ill. Kevin Carter, PP is the Mas-ter of Ceremonies .

The Bektash News, starting in Febru-ary this year, will be published once every two months to all members, with possible news letters in-between. We have E-Mail addresses for only about 60% of our members, so there are some members who receive no news at all about meetings, activities or up-dates. All members should know what is going on so that they have an opportunity to participate.

Dues are coming in and yet we still have many who have not paid last years. If you are having prob-lems ,please call so that we can work it out . It can be done on a credit card, time payments, whatever is helpful. We will have a night of Mardi Gras on Saturday, February 13. Come and en-joy an evening of dining, fun and dancing. Ill Bill Hebert, PP and Lady Sharon are the chair people and have planned some surprises. I need the information on meetings and a list of officers of the clubs and units so installations can be arranged. I need the help and support of all and welcome your suggestions and criti-cisms. First Lady Ellie and I are look-ing forward to the year ahead and wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year. Yours in the Faith Wes Lord Potentate-elect

NOTICE

Current 2016 dues cards are required to attend all Bektash

meetings.

All Nobles must have 2016 dues card to march in any Bektash parade.

Ill. Richard Quindley working at the 2015 “Fez”tival of Trees.

As I write this Recorder’s Column it is Christmas Eve and the weather, although there is a mist in the air, it is warm for December 24th. This is the end of my first year as your Re-corder. I have enjoyed the past year here at the Shrine office

and have learned a lot about the everyday working problems that occur here at the Shrine Center. I was pleased to be re-elected to this position for the year 2016. We do have things that need my attention and problems to solve as we go into next year. I would like to congratulate Ill. Wesley Lord for being elected as our 2016 Po-tentate. With the full support of the Elected Divan, Appointed Divan, Unit Of-ficers and the Nobility, we should have a productive year. This only happens when we all work together. Let’s all help our new Potentate reach the goals he would like to achieve. I’m hoping that we can improve our communication with you, the Nobility of this Temple. We are considering some changes in the way we converse and inform you of what’s going on here at Bektash. We don’t seem to be reaching 100% of the Nobility. This has to be corrected. We are working on this prob-lem as we speak. Dan Salo and I have been discussing this subject and we hope to change things for the better early in 2016. We are starting a new year with a new Potentate and Divan. Let’s get back to the good old days when the Nobility and their Ladies supported the events be-ing held for all the Shriners of Bektash. I haven’t seen many of you that sup-ported Lady Judy and I back in 2001. What a year that was. Please try hard to attend some of the events planned for your joy and entertainment. Come see us in the New Year. Let’s all have some fun again. Membership will always be spoken here. Did you find me a candidate in 2015? If you didn’t, you have to try twice as hard in 2016. I won’t stop reminding you of this, so you might as well perform up to your proven ability. Get one!!! Bektash needs your help, Happy New Year!!! Yours in the Faith, Guild “Bushie” Hill, PP Recorder

In April 1973 the Board of Directors of the Interna onal Council officially recognized the Interna onal Associa on of Shrine Yacht Clubs "IASYC". The IASYC body represents among its affiliated Shrine Temple Yacht Clubs the ambassa-dors of good will among the boa ng fraternity. Bektash Mariners Shrine Yacht Club was founded in March 2012, and Joined the IASYC in May that same year. BMSYC is an inner body providing good fellowship among mem-bers of Bektash Shrine who share an interest in boats, boa ng and kindred pleasures-such as skiing, fishing and cruising. Since its incep on the club has lived up to its Ma-sonic principals and has grown in membership each year. During 2014, all summer mee ngs have been well a ended and held at waterfront loca ons. Boat cruises have taken place as well. All Nobles interested in joining this res ul and adventurous BMSYC should get in touch with Commodore Noble Ray Desrochers at (603) 934-5198 or (603) 387-5791.

Want to earn money for your Unit, Club or a Bektash Charity with no cash investment on your part?

Sell Bektash 2016 Cash Calendars We hope you all purchase or get involved on becoming part of the 2016 Cash Calendars Raffle. A repeat of our successful past events will be made for 2016. A copy of our ad is on the adjacent page. Take a look, it’s great!

We will have a total of 2500 to sell as we did in 2015. This is a major fund raiser for Bektash. It is in the same league as Bingo and the “Fez”tival of Trees. It is and has been the major fund raiser for several of our sister Shrine Centers.

Here’s how you can easily become part of this exciting fund raiser! No upfront investment or upfront cash required. We supply the calendars on consignment to your Unit, Club or a Noble, your choice. Your Unit, Club or Bektash Charity can earn a commission of $2.00 for each calen-dar sold. The $2.00 commission will be paid in July 2017.

As a bonus, when all 2500 calendars are sold the commission will be increased to $3.00 for each calendar sold by the Unit, Club or Noble. The $3.00 commission will be paid in 2017 to the Unit, Club or Bektash Charity of your choice, once we sell all 2500 calendars. 1900 were sold 0n 2013. Help us sell all 2500 for 2016. We can do it!

If the Noble does not belong to a Unit or Club, the Noble, his family and friends can sell the Calendars with the commission paid to a Bektash Charity of their choice.

We will have these beautiful full color calendars in July. Based on what we have experienced for in the last two years we feel that the calendars will sell out quickly. So, get yours and help Bektash sell all 2500.

Contact the Bektash Office at 603-225-5372 so that we can get you started. Thanks. Guild “Bushie” Hill Recorder

♫ Celebrating our 100th year. Please see one of the Drum Corps members to obtain a commemorative pin dedicated to this special year. ♫ Our leader Ron Perry Thanks all of the members of the Corps and from the Shrine who volunteered at the Fez-Tival of Trees. This was a record year. The best ever.

♫ Noble Ron Parsons served the Corps as leader from 2003-2007(5 years) and then as secretary from 2007 -2016 (9 years). Noble Ron Perry has been your leader from 2007-2016 (9 years). It is time Nobles for you to think about our replacements as 2016 will be the last year for both of us. Noble Perry will continue on as Drum Major, but not as leader. He will call a spe-cial organizational meeting this Spring so we can plan for the future beyond 2016.

♫ The officers of the Drum Corps, Ron, Ron, and Lloyd wish all of you in Shrinedom a very Happy and Healthy New Year! Cheers, Ron Parsons Secretary

THE100MILLIONDOLLARCLUB The 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children have provided lifesaving and life-changing medical care to more than 800,000 children, regardless of their ability to pay. The money to provide these needed services at 22 hospitals comes from many sources: community donations; fundraising events; investment income; and support from the Shriners Inter-national. As health care costs increase, Shriners Hospitals needs your help, more than ever, to continue to provide more specialized care, offer medical education and conduct more research. Too many people believe that if they cannot donate or leave a large sum or money, their gift will not count. Every contribution helps. In order to encourage donors to contribute to Shriners Hospitals for Children, the HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR CLUB was es-tablished in 1972. The club is named for its goal of adding 100 million dollars to the endowment fund through gifts or bequests of $100 or more.

HOWTOJOIN There are three ways to become a member of the 100 Million Dollar Club: (1) By contributing $100 or more to Shriners Hospi-tals for Children; (2) By having your will include a bequest of $100 or more to Shriners Hospitals for Children; or (3) By adding a provision to an existing will leaving $100 or more to Shriners Hospitals for Children. WHATYOURECEIVE Each donor receives a handsome 100 Million Dollar Club certifi-cate. By contributing $100, you can feel like a million, knowing that you have helped to ensure that Shriners Hospitals for Chil-dren will be able to continue helping children in the years to come.
