Sports NewsKnockout Cricket ReportQuarter Final vs Parkes Public SchoolThe school cricket team were off to Parkes for our quarter final match in the NSW PSSA Knockout Cricket Competition. Luckily, the first Ashes test match started just as we left Sydney, so the 5 hour drive went by very quickly!
The game day didn’t get off to the best start, as we lost the toss. However, our opening bowlers Sara and Seb quickly turned our fortune around and got us off to a fantastic start, with Sara claiming a wicket on the second ball of the match! Great bowling from Oliver (4 for 19 off 5 overs), Sarah (2 for 13 off 5 overs) and Aidan (1 for 9 off 2 overs) restricted Parkes to just 8/78 runs from their 25 overs. Continuous pressure in the field allowed just one batsmen from Parkes to get into double digits!
A slow but steady start from openers Chris (40, retired) and Xavier (28 not out) saw us slowly creep towards our target, getting the win inside 20 overs. A great result, a great trip, and some very tired children for the drive home!
Semi Final vs Leeton Public SchoolFresh off a trip to Parkes, the Knockout team arrived at school bleary-eyed at 5.55am on Tuesday 28 November, ready to drive up to Maitland. After winning the toss, we decided to bat. The team was full of excitement as the semi-finals and finals were played on turf wickets. For some in our team it was their first experience playing on a proper turf wicket.
An amazing start from our top 3 batsmen gave us a great platform to post a big total, with Chris (40, retired), Xavier (43, retired) and Jack (44, retired) allowing us to score a season-high total of 4/171 off just 25 overs. The job was not over however, and our bowlers ensured Leeton never had a chance to get in the game. The standout bowler, Kai bowled a superb spell, taking 4 wickets for just 2 runs in 4 overs. It will be hard for him to ever top those bowling figures! He was ably assisted by Seb (2 for 6 off 3 overs), Sara (2 for 19 off 5 overs) and Oliver (1 for 12 off 3), as Neutral Bay bowled Leeton out for 72 runs in 21 overs – securing a massive 99 run win!
Final vs Narranga Public SchoolOur good luck with coin tosses continued, and we decided to bat. Some exceptional bowling from
Narranga saw our top order under intense pressure with three early wickets. Thankfully Seb held us together with a hard-fought 18 runs across almost 15 overs. Some pinch-hitting in the final over from Fraser helped us to 8/61 from our 25 overs.
It was always going to be a hard total to defend, but Neutral Bay was right back in the game after Sara and Kai combined to keep Narranga to just 1/8 off the first 6 overs. Unfortunately, Narranga were too good at the end of the day, although Neutral Bay fought with admirable dedication and sportsmanship to the very last ball! For 10 players in our squad, it was their last time playing cricket for Neutral Bay, and although they didn’t get the result that they wanted, it was a memorable way to finish their primary school sporting careers. It would not surprise me at all to see some of these students representing Australia down the track!
333 schools across NSW entered the Knockout Cricket Competition, and to have made the final is an incredible achievement. Across the 9 games we played, Chris, Jack and Xavier each managed to score 200+ runs, with 12/14 players in our squad getting off the mark and scoring valuable runs for the team. On the bowling front, Sara – one of the few girls competing in a boys’ competition, led the charge all season with 13 wickets across 9 games. Kai was equally valuable, taking 12 wickets at an impressive strike rate of one wicket every two overs he bowled. Of the 12 players who bowled throughout the season, 10 students managed to take¬¬ at least one wicket for the team.
10 out of 14 players took at least one catch, including our wicket keeper, Chris, who took an impressive 10 catches behind the stumps. Furthermore, 9 players assisted in at least one run out. These statistics paint a picture of a fantastic team, in which every single player made valuable contributions. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Most importantly, the 14 players in our squad across 9 matches played with admirable sportsmanship and every single one of them had a smile on their face the entire time. For the four year 5 students who have played in our team this year, our eyes are already on the prize for 2018!
Mr W MacInnes – Knockout Cricket Coordinator.

Home RunnersCaptain: Tom Roberts
Most Valuable Player (MVP): James Crosbie
This week the Homerunners played a great game against Beauty Point 1. The score was 23-16 in our favour with Finn Conlon getting 3 homeruns and 1 outstanding catch although MVP this week was James Crosbie for getting 2 homeruns and a brilliant catch considering it was his Homerunners debut. We did well fielding, but we need to work on our batting and positive communication.
Double OutsCaptain: Darcy Thompson
MVP: Daniel Livingstone
This week we played Neutral Bay 4 and we both played extremely well. We hit a lot of homeruns with 4 from Daniel. Therefore I chose him for MVP. It was a very close game. The final score was 32-30 in our favour. I am very pleased with my team because they played very well.
StrikersCaptain: Affan Salman
MVP: Jacob Skurnik
Today we played Beauty Point 2, in an exciting and interesting game. The final score was 29-11 our way. Our batting and running were good, but our fielding could have some improvement. Some highlights were Jacob Skurnik’s home run that went straight over the opposition’s heads. This amazing feat and many other great things have earned Jacob MVP.
MVPsCaptain: Ewan Odenthal
MVP: Alex Tanner
Today we played North Sydney 3 and we tied 14-14. I think we did well considering we were 4 players down. Alex took lots of catches and caught lots of people out
StealersCaptain: Alex Matterson
MVP: Brian Ahn
Today we played Artarmon 5 and we won 13 -5. We did quite well considering we only had 7 players. Brian (the MVP) played outstandingly. He caught many players out and hit a few homeruns. Overall we played an enjoyable.
Loaded BasesCaptain: Joel Garrett
MVP: Jay Burton
Today we played the Double Outs. We had a great game but we lost 30-32. The MVP today was Jay Burton for his positivity and homeruns. We need to work on hitting the ball lower as we kept getting caught out though it was close the whole game.
GloversCaptain: Oliviae De Calves
MVP: Dylan Lam
We played Cammeray and won 28-8. Our team played really well. Mac Waters was a great sport plus everybody played with passion and courage. Well done!!!
SlidersCaptain: Charlie Brownlaw
MVP: Hugo Ng
We played Anzac Park 2 and we all put in 100%. We won 34-14. Hugo was MVP for supporting the team and batting sensationally.

2E have been feeling artistic! Last week, we painted some vibrant backgrounds using warm colours. These were inspired by summer sunsets. We used large paintbrushes and long strokes to blend the colours into each other. We then drew a large crashing wave, using contrasting cool colours that stood out against our sunset backgrounds. 2E are ready for long, hot summer days and beautiful sunsets later this week, along with the start of December.
Here are some photos of our wonderful artworks. We hope you like them!
Kindergarten have loved visiting the Library this year! It is a wonderful time for listening to stories and reading a variety of books. The children adore taking a book of choice home to borrow for a week. Here is KSV returning their library books and enjoying themselves in Library time. Thanks Miss Blackie and Miss Mazey for a great year of Library.

3H have been busy exploring different poetic devices this term. We have listened to poetry, read poetry and written a variety of our own poems. We have learnt about rhyme, alliteration, similie, tongue twisters and onomatopoeia. To explore onomatopoeia, we created artworks inspired by the pop art movement. We used primary colours and old newspaper clippings to create striking artworks, which complemented our chosen sound.
Fire & Rescue NSW School Visit Report
On the 14th November, Conrad Walsh from Fire & Rescue NSW came to our school to talk to all the Year 5 students as part of our Geography unit on Bushfires.
In preparation for the visit, all Year 5 classes submitted a series of questions about bushfires.
These included:
• To prepare for summer, what should home owners do to make their homes safe from bushfires?
• Up to what speed can a bushfire travel per hour?
• Do fires travel faster uphill? If so, why?
• What are the major causes of bushfires?
During Conrad’s presentation, he tried to answer all the questions we sent him and provided us with lots of additional information.
Year 5 thank Conrad for his wonderful visit!

The B-Line Program is an integrated program of service and infrastructure improvements to support more frequent and reliable bus services for customers travelling between Northern Beaches and the Sydney CBD. A program of work is now underway from Mona vale to the CBD including new tidal flow systems, building new bus bays and work will continue into 2018.
As part of these infrastructure improvements, Roads and Maritime Services will be replacing sections of the T3 Transit Lane between Balgowlah and Neutral Bay with a bus lane in January 2018. The new bus lane would provide additional bus priority along the corridor, improve reliability of bus services for customers and help keep the Northern Beaches, Lower North Shore and Sydney moving.
The T3 lanes will be changed to bus lanes in the following locations:
• along Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation (from Condamine Street to Sydney Road, Balgowlah)
• along Spit and Military Roads (from Awaba Street, Mosman to Bent Street, Neutral Bay)
The new Bus Lanes will operate during the morning peak period from 6am to 10am weekdays.
