PRINICPAL REPORT TERM 4 WEEK 3 AND WEEK 4 KINDER START – OUR NEWBEES PROGRAM Last week our orientation program for children starting Kinder with us in 2017 commenced with our classroom visits. Our “Newbees” Program is designed to provide opportunities for the children to have some lovely, fun and relaxed activities with the Kinder teachers, while parents attend information sessions designed to support them in their transition into our school. This is an extremely worthwhile program and we look forward to welcoming our Kinder families into our school community. The Newbees Program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, over the next three weeks. On Thursday 17 November both groups will join together while parents attend an information session in the hall for the final “Newbees” get together. GULANGFEST ART COMPETITION Once again, this year’s standard of art work submitted by our students to the GulangFest Art Competition was outstanding. Congratulations to Kyena G who won the Primary Individual Years 3-6 section – fabulous achievement! The artwork will be on display from 7 November until 18 November in front of Best and Less at the Bay Village Shopping Centre. SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT DAY Families would be aware that each year schools have specific days set aside for staff to attend professional learning. These days are usually at the beginning or end of the term. At the beginning of the year families were informed of the proposal for staff to trade off their last School Development Days and instead attend workshops during four evening sessions throughout Term 1 and 2. This was done strategically so our staff could use the professional learning gained, throughout the year, in support of our students. This year the students will finish school on Friday 16 December. Staff, having already used their School Development Days will also finish on this day. These changes to the staffs’ timetable DO NOT affect dates for our students. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. POSSIBLE DISRUPTIONS ON MARLOWE ROAD AND KEATS AVENUE Last week we were informed by Zinfra (working for Ausgrid) on intended electricity network upgrading. This project involves the installation of new underground cables and work is expected to begin this

week, with construction lasting up to six weeks. This may cause some disruption to footpath areas and some parking. Further information can be obtained by contacting Kevin Toohey – 0438 771 384 PLANNING 2017 (Repeat Article) As we begin our planning for 2017 I would encourage parents to let us know in writing if there are any circumstances they feel we should know which will support the placement of their child for next year. The formation of classes takes many, many hours of discussion, use of data and knowledge of our staff. Whilst we are happy to consider any specific circumstances raised by parents, ultimately, the school will make the final choice regarding student placements. Requests will need to be made to the school by Monday 21 November, if they are to be considered. Similarly if you have a student at Bateau Bay Public School who is NOT in Year 6 and will not be returning to us next year would you please let us know. The number of students at our school affects the planning for classes, teachers and school programs so the earlier we have information the better. Please write a note to your child’s teacher or drop it into the office. Ms Michelle Dwyer Reliving Principal

Remembrance Day Ceremony

Parents and friends are invited to attend the BBPS Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday 11 November commencing at 10.30am under the COLA. Students are requested to bring flowers for the school wreath.

Mr Mark Waite Deputy Principal BALL GAMES On Thursday 20 October, approximately 60 BBPS students played a variety of ball games at Passage Road Oval against a number of Central Coast schools. It was a fantastic day with all stage 2 and stage 3 teams giving their best efforts, representing our school proudly and exhibiting excellent behaviour throughout the day. Whilst we didn’t win the carnival, we did come 4th out of all the schools that attended which is a great result. A huge thanks to Mrs Healas and Miss Tarasenko for organising the carnival and thanks also to Mr Lyons and Mrs Bacon for training and escorting the students.

With excited beating hearts we bravely waited for the music to begin. As we whipped our arms, did the Nae Nae and bopped we felt excited and brave to dance on stage in front of our families and friends. We had practised for 9 weeks to learn the incredibly difficult dance Whip Nae Nae. We would like to thank our wonderful parent helpers Roxanne Bartle and Leah Day for giving up their time to teach us the dance. It was an amazing experience for us. We are very grateful for their help. From the 1/2J kids and Mrs Jones
