Dear Lawson Parents and Carers,
Welcome Back
Hello to our Lawson community. It's great to see everyone back into school routine and enjoying the start to the year.
I'd like to thank everyone for braving the weather to attend our recent community BBQ. We had a great turn out, plenty of friendly conversation and the kids enjoyed a chance to socialise with friends.
While I know that families are very busy, working commitments and competing schedules can make it difficult to attend every school event, I want everyone to know that I continue to look forward to meeting all of our students' parents/carers and their families.
Did you know?... That the Blue Mountains Rotary Club provides a free breakfast for our students, each and every Friday morning Kids have access to a healthy meal which fuels them for the day. There is fruit, toast, cereals, hot milos and more. Not only does this set our students up for their learning, it gives families the chance to get out the door a little earlier than usual. Friday mornings are also a great chance to informally come together as a community. I hope to see you here.
School Planning
Lawson Public School is now in its' 132nd year of providing high quality education to our students. We have a proud tradition in public education and we want everyone to be a part of their school and community. This term, we will be consulting students, staff and parents in regard to our vision and future directions. We would love to know your thoughts. This week, we will be approaching families with a short survey to help us get this process started. We'd like to know what you think Lawson does well? Are there programs or traditions that need to stay? What is something we could do to improve the education that we provide for your children?
Congratulations Mrs Armstrong
Our outstanding Assistant Principal, Mrs Armstrong, has been accepted into the Aspiring Principals Leadership Program. Developed and delivered by the NSW Department of Education, this leadership Program will equip school or system leaders to lead improvement in student learning in NSW public schools.
During the program, Mrs Armstrong will continue to work in her role as Assistant Principal, here at Lawson PS.

Reminder regarding “Anaphylaxis Action Plans”
Anaphylaxis Plans need to be updated annually by your Child’s Doctor. Please ensure your child’s updated Epi-pens and action plans are provided to the office as a matter of urgency.
For students with Asthma, please ensure we have an updated action plan and Ventolin that is in date, as some inhalers may expire during the year.
Parents and Visitors A friendly reminder that our morning bell is at 8.55am (prompt). We politely ask all parents and visitors to have completed their goodbyes prior to this time and vacate the premises as all gates will be closed at 9.00am for the safety of all students. Students that are late need to attend the office to collect a late note before heading off to class. For Students that need to leave early, parents/carers are required to come to the office for an early leaver note and the office will arrange for the student to come and meet them at the office. Permission Notes When returning permission notes for school activities it is a legal requirement to return a SEPARATE permission note for each child. If you pay online it is still necessary to return the permission note to the office. In addition, if returning multiple notes for more than one child/activity, there is no need to put each note into a separate envelope. We are able to process multiple payments for multiple activities/children in the one transaction. Please ensure your child/s full name and class are on the permission note. Lost Property There seems to be a constant stream of lost property being sent to the office. Could you please ensure you have all items labelled with your child’s name and class.
Our library has a lot of new books that need to be covered in clear contact before they can be put onto our library shelves or become part of the classroom library.
We would like to organise a Working Bee for Tuesday, 25th February 2020 from 9.00 am to 10.30 am in our Library.
It would be great to have as many helpers there as possible.
Morning Tea will be provided as a small token of appreciation.

Special Religious Education and Special Education in Ethics 2020
Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE) will begin at
Lawson Public School on Thursday the 20th February 2020. Classes will operate from
9.05am – 9.35am each Thursday. The current structure of classes is outlined below.
However, these may be subject to change based on the volunteer educators available.
• SRE (Protestant classes) – currently 3 classes will operate. Kindergarten, Stage
1 (years 1 and 2), and a combined Stage 2 and Stage 3 class (years 3, 4, 5, 6).
• SRE (Catholic classes) – currently 3 classes will operate. K-2, Stage 2 (years 3
and 4) and Stage 3 (years 5 and 6)
• SEE (Ethics classes) – currently 3 classes will operate Stage 1, Stage 2 and
Stage 3 will have a separate class. We apologise as there will be no Ethics for
Kindergarten at this stage.
This year Ethics classes will be limited to 22 students. There are currently 26
Stage 3 students enrolled in Ethics therefore we are calling for four Stage 3
volunteers to opt out of this class. If you would like to withdraw your child
from this class please send a note to the SRE co-ordinator or Principal.
Students not attending SRE or SEE classes will attend Non SRE classes and will be
provided with meaningful activities, not lessons in the curriculum. Suitable activities
may include reading, private study, completing homework or other activities that are
considered to be appropriate by the school community.
All SRE, SEE and Non-SRE classes are supervised by teaching staff.
Students continue in the same arrangements each year, unless a parent/caregiver
has requested a change in writing. At any time, you have the right to change your
SRE/SEE nomination or to withdraw your child from the nominated lessons. A note
to the SRE/SEE coordinator or Principal will affect this change.
If you have any questions or require further information please feel free to contact
me.
