2ND DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP

Summer has arrived and our 2018-2019 year is coming to

an end – your membership year is not quite done yet –

Have you thought about putting an information booth or

table at your local celebration? It’s a good time to get the

information out about the Auxiliary, who we are, what we

do, and why we do it. You can’t get new members if they

don’t know these things. There are other organizations

out there for them to join but do they do what we

do?Congratulations to Brewster for making goal at

District Convention! Good Job Brewster. I want to thank

every unit for what they have done for membership this

year, without members in our Auxiliary, the Auxiliary

would not exist. We need to continue supporting our

Veterans and their families, the need is as great as it was

100 years ago when we were organized. Have a good

summer Unit members! Don’t forget to thank a veteran

for his or her service! Raleen Tolzmann 2nd District

Poppy Report

Happy July 4th to everyone! Remember to thank

veterans and active duty service members for their

service and allowing us to enjoy our freedom.

It was nice to meet many of you at the 2nd District

Convention on June 8 in Pipestone.

The poppy contest first-place winners were:

Centerpiece: Kristeen Asleson, Unit 294 Lake Crystal

Wreath: LeAnn Nelson, Unit 287 Minnesota Lake

The recipient of the Vanlandingham Poppy Plaque is

Vickie Milbrath and Unit 608 from Okabena. They used

poppies at a past president’s funeral and had their

Poppy Princess hand out poppies and carry a poppy

bouquet in a parade. Congratulations to all! Remember

to remind everyone in your unit to sign up to receive the

district newsletter via email.

Thank you, Amy Haaland 2nd District Poppy Chairman

Baseball Report

The American Legion Baseball season is underway!

Play-offs will begin in mid-July. All levels and divisions

are now under a sub-state format. Some teams may be

assigned outside their districts in order to maintain an

even balance in the number of teams competing in each

sub-state.

We have 10 teams in our division 1 sub-state of Senior

Legion. One team has indicated they won't participate in

the post-season, so after a play-in game, 8 teams will

compete in that tournament in New Ulm

We have 19 teams assigned to us for Senior Legion

Page 5: The 2nd District American Legion Family Newsletter 2nd District...Hotel & Suites at (507) 562-1100. Their rate is $105.00. This hotel has a pool/hot tub and continental breakfast

division 2. Some have let me know they won't be able to

field a team for the play-offs, so we will adjust

accordingly. After the Sub-sub-state tournaments, eight

teams will compete in Luverne for the chance to advance

to the State Tournament.

We have two division 1 Junior Legion teams, and they

will compete in their sub-state tournament in Marshall

against six teams from District 7.

We will have our first ever division 2 Junior Legion Sub-

state Tournament this year, also in Luverne.

Tournament schedules are being planned, but not firmed

up yet at the time I am writing this. I encourage you to

check with your team(s) for game dates and times as we

approach mid-July.

We have firmed up our sub-state tournament sites and

dates.

Sr. Legion division 1 Sub-state #2 will be hosted by New

Ulm. 9 out of 10 teams are expected to compete, so we

plan to have a play-in game Monday evening July 22.

That winner will join the other seven teams competing

Wednesday July 24-Saturday July 27.

Sr. Legion division 2 Southwest Sub-state will be in

Luverne. The eight teams will begin play on Thursday

July 18. Action will continue on Friday & Saturday July

19 & 20, and resume Friday July 26, with the

championship decided the next day.

Jr. Legion division 2 Southwest Zone will also be held in

Luverne. We are staggering the dates so those players

who are dual-rostered may be available to both of their

teams. We will play Sunday July 21, Tuesday July 23,

Thursday July 25, and have the championship on

Sunday July 28.

Our two Jr. Legion division 1 teams will play in Sub-state

G. That tournament will be in Marshall Monday July 22,

and Friday to Sunday July 26 to 29, and will be directed

by someone else.

Results will be available on the Legion Hub

http://www.legionbaseballhub.com.
