TECHNOLOGY

The TSB 2500 family is highly integrated and modular. A dual frequency power amplifier and a diplexer/switch performs the transmission function for both transponder and interrogator. Interrogator and transponder functions havetheir own reception channels providing thesystem with the same availability as separateInterrogator and transponder equipment. The extensive use of high density programmabletechnology permits the combination of theInterrogator, Transponder processing functionsand a 16/32 bit Central Processor, on onlythree P.C. Boards, leading to a high level ofreliability. EPROM/RAM provisions and the useof high level software language makes the TSB2500 highly flexible and versatile regardingeither future upgrades or platform integration.

TESTABILITY

Each SRU is fitted with a powerful BIT detectionfor failures down to the chip level and reportingto the Central Processing Unit, according tothe latest IEEE 1149.1 BIT techniques.

OPERATION

The interrogator and transponder functionsare controlled via a MIL STD 1553B or Ethernetbus interface and operates according to STANAG4193.The interrogator provides target designatedor sector scanned interrogation and reports. It also offers an embedded target trackingcapability which enables an easy integrationonto the platform. Monopulse processingprovides accurate azimuth estimation. The E-Scan version can manage two antennaarrays - top and bottom - and discriminatetargets from top, central and bottom sectors.

The M-Scan version is fitted with a high speedserial input providing an accurate tracking capabilityof the radar antenna position. Digital pulseprocessing, defruiting and a statistical replyevaluator ensure optimal signal extraction andground clutter elimination, even in adverse environments. The interrogator includes new NATO mode 5 aswell as the civil mode S.The transponder provides diversity operation, includes mode 5 level 1 & 2, and mode S upto level 3 capability as well as enhanced andelementary surveillance services. An optionalremote Control and Display Unit can be providedif the transponder is required to be controlledindependently from the MIL STD 1553B bus.

DESCRIPTION

The TSB 2500 is a family of advanced MKXIIA/ Mode S Combined Interrogator Transponderswhich can be provided also as Interrogators(TSA 2500).It provides all civil and military modes: 1, 2,3/A, 4, 5, C and S. The TSB 2510 series are dedicated to E-Scanand TSB 2520 series to M-Scan applications. The TSB 2510 consists of a lightweight CombinedInterrogator Transponder (CIT) unit integratingall interrogator, transponder and COMSECfunctions, and an Antenna Control Unit (ACU)to steer electronically the antenna. The TSB 2520 consists of the same CIT unitas the TSB 2510, fitted with a 2 KW RFAntenna Adaptor Unit (AAU) providing Sigma/Deltainterface with an M-Scan antenna. The AAUcan be fitted in appliqué on the CIT or be remote. The TSA 2530 for Mirage 2000 is a repackagingof the TSB 2520.The TSA 2540 is a full interrogator fitted inthe unmatched compact size/weight CIT unit.It includes all military and secure modes, including new NATO mode 5. It features all civilmodes, and includes full mode S with a dualchannel for complete compliancy to ICAOstandard. The TSB 2500 integrated design saves overthan 60 % weight, 70 % volume and is 40times more reliable compared with the 6 or 7boxes of the conventional IFF system.

OPERATIONAL ADVANTAGES

The TSB 2500 family is perfectly suited toadvanced fighters, surveillance aircraft, helicopters, as well as for ground or navalapplications. Fully compliant with the latest NATO mode 5and ICAO mode S standards, it delivers to thearmy forces an unprecedented identificationand surveillance capability for the coming 20years.The remote active Antenna Control or AdaptorUnits provide a superior perfomance margincompared to other systems, offering anoutstanding capability to identify friendly aircraftbeyond the radar range. The modularity of the Interrogator and Transponder functions enables delivery as aTransponder, an Interrogator or a CombinedInterrogator Transponder. This allows aprocurement of a Transponder only, andsubsequent upgrade to add the interrogator.
