It is hard is believe we are approaching the last four weeks of the school year! The students have been doing an amazing job this term, both inside and outside the classroom. I would like to recognise the staff for their fabulous work in the classroom and leading and organising many extracurricular activities for our students. A huge thank you to parents/carers for their ongoing support for our school programs and initiatives.
School Spectacular Our K-2 and 3-6 School Spectacular Groups have been working hard both at school during break times and at the Homebush rehearsals. I am looking forward to being part of the audience tonight at the first show. I wish the students all the best for their performances over the weekend at QUDOS Bank Arena! A huge thank you to Mrs Farah and Ms Cascio for all their hard work, time and commitment in not only providing this opportunity for our students but ensuring they are stage ready! Thank you also to our families for their commitment and support.
Remembrance Day On 11 November we gathered as a school community for our Remembrance Day Service which recognises the enduring contribution of Australian armed forces in peace keeping efforts around the world. Congratulations to our student leaders on leading the service, we are very proud of you. Thank you to Mrs Lazarevic for her organisation and leadership of the day and all those who attended. Its days like this that highlight the importance, understanding and connection to our serving men and women, their families and our school community.

Our 2020 leadership team comprises of Byron, Cooper, Dimitri, Ethan, Grace, Jayda, Jeyda, Keira, Nash, Nihal, Will, Zaahid.
Semester Two Reports Teachers are currently engaging in preparing and writing student reports. A lot of time and effort is given to this process to ensure our parents/carers are presented with valuable information about their child’s progress. Reports will go home Tuesday 17 December. If you are planning on finishing school early could you please advise the office in writing and we will do our best to prepare your child’s report in time for your departure. If you have any concerns or questions about the report, you are more than welcome and encouraged to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss the report.
End of Year Movie Day We are very excited to be taking the students to the movies for our annual end of year movie day on Monday 16 December 2020. Payments are due by 2 December. We are looking forward to this day of celebration!
End of Year Presentation Assemblies End of year presentation assemblies provide an opportunity to recognise student achievements. Whilst not every child receives an award, it is a night to celebrate the growth of every child and the learning journey they have undertaken in 2019. We have continued to make some changes to these nights to enhance the experience for all. These have been based on ongoing community feedback. Please see below for dates, times and venues. Kindergarten Presentation Day Date: Wednesday 4 December 2019 Time: 1:30pm
Venue: Wattle Grove PS School Hall Stage One Presentation Night Date: Wednesday 4 December 2019 Time: 6:30pm Venue: Wattle Grove PS School Hall Years 3-6 Presentation Night Date: Thursday 5 December 2019 Time: 6:30pm Venue: Holsworthy High School A rehearsal for the 3-6 assembly has been scheduled for 25 November. Thank you in advance for your support.
End of Year Events As we approach the end of the year, there are many events occurring. Please look out for paper notes and Skool Bag App notifications. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call the office or see your child’s teacher. There have been a number of questions about the date of the Year Six Farewell which is on 12 December.
Wattle Wanderers
This week I visited K Red. The children were engaging in a mathematics lesson with Mrs Yardley, their RFF teacher. K Red were drawing shapes on a grid and measuring the area of their shape. Their partner then recreated the shape using different squares. The trick was to ensure the area and shape were exactly the same as the original picture drawn. All students worked beautifully in their pairs and showed great knowledge and skill. It was a pleasure to be in the classroom!

Farewell Mrs Phillips Mrs Phillips is currently teaching at Woolllaware Public School and has been successful in gaining a permanent transfer to this school. She has been a big part of the Wattle Grove family for many years. Mrs Phillips showed much dedication, commitment and care towards the students and community. She contributed to many traditions at our school and she will be fondly remembered for her positive and expert approach to educating the students at Wattle Grove. Although we are sad to see Mrs Phillips leave, we wish her the very best of luck at her new school.

Year 6 2019 have been thinking carefully about what they would like to donate as their gift to Wattle Grove Public School before they leave on their big adventure to High School. As many different and creative gifts have been donated in the past, this was a very difficult task. After much deliberation, the students have decided that Wattle Grove is in need of some new banners that will be used in our hall and to represent our school and sports houses at carnivals.
Our teachers believe that this is a fantastic gift that our school will get a great deal of use out of in the coming years. We are grateful to have such thoughtful and generous students and thank them very much for this wonderful gift.

Microstory Writing Competition
Students at Wattle Grove Public School were invited to participate in a school writing competition. K-2 students were given the task of writing a microstory of no more than 100 words and our 3-6 students were invited to write a microstory which was exactly 100 words. Congratulations to all of the students who submitted an entry. The results are as follows: K-2 Stage Stage 3 1st – Isla T (1A) 1st – Fletcher W (3/4C) 1st – Gabrielle W (6P) 2nd – Aleisha R (2K) 2nd – Keira (4R) 2nd – Holly A (5A) 3rd – Audrey G (2T) 3rd – Matthew R (4S) =3rd – Jayda J (5/6T) =3rd – Anannya S (6F)
Isla – K-2 Winner I was in the woods and I could hear birds calling out and leaves swooshing. I was lost and alone. I could hear my friend Bella coming up behind me. I thought I was dreaming, but I wasn’t. “Boo!” she screamed. Bella disappeared. I was alone again. I needed to get to my first ballet class. I looked down. I was stuck. I couldn’t move. I screamed. I heard footsteps. Something pulled my arms and my feet came out of my pink ballet shoes! “Bzzzzzzzzzzz!” What’s that? I looked at my clean feet. Was it just a dream?
Fletcher – Stage 2 Winner – Last Minute I glare down at my black phone, watching intently as the numbers count down, down to my untimely death according to this message. My heart races as I grasp that I now only have a short two minutes left. In my panic, I think to myself, this has got to be a joke! CREAKKK!! The door behind me opens slowly. I gasp! Not making a sound when a figure suddenly appears in the doorway. “Please don’t hurt me,” I whisper. “Tick, tock!” mumbled a scratchy voice. I open my mouth to scream, but my body is forced into the darkness.
Page 8
Gabrielle – Stage 3 Winner – An eerie escape from math class I gasp, choking on the thick fog. My eyes water, straining to focus. The wind whistles through the trees and leaves crunch under my footsteps. I pause, confused about how I got here, when I hear the faint sounds of footsteps. My heart pounds as I turn and run, trying to find safety in these eerie woods. I am jolted, like a lightning bolt hitting the earth when a cloaked figure steps out. His cloak swoops over me, encasing me in darkness. All I hear is ringing, louder and louder. I am thrust back into reality, back into math class.
