Principal’s Report
Community Breakfast
Thanks to all our families and friends who chose to start their day last Friday by attending our community breakfast! It was
wonderful to see so many families at school sharing food and a chat. The feel at breakfast was a fabulous example of what
we are working to achieve at Lismore Public School - parents and teachers working together to achieve amazing
outcomes for our students. Our community breakfast provided an opportunity for parents and carers to come to the school
for an informal event. Our school community is welcome at the school at any time and communication lines are always
open. If you have an issue you would like to discuss or a suggestion about any aspect of school life please contact the
office to make an appointment with your child’s teacher or myself. The school is looking to host more community events so
keep your eye peeled for the next one!!
Zone Swimming Carnival
I was lucky enough to attend the zone swimming carnival on Wednesday. Lismore Public School students represented our
school with pride. Their enthusiasm and behaviour was a credit to themselves and the school. Our school shade tents,
purchased with a grant from the P&C, were used to shade officials and received several positive comments. Thanks to
Mr Davies and Mr Hoskins who supported the students to attend the carnival. Good luck to those students attending the
NR PSSA zone basketball trials in Lismore on Friday.
Staffing News
Ms Michelle Stroud-Watts has been successful through an Expression of Interest to replace Ms St George as our
Instructional Leader. Michelle has extensive teaching and leadership experience and is currently the Principal of
Jiggi Public School. She has also been the Instructional Leader at Ballina Public School. I would like to take this
opportunity to welcome her to the Lismore Public School team. Michelle will transition into the position one day per week
until the end of this term before commencing fulltime next term.
Parking
A reminder to be aware of signage relating to parking zones around the school. Parking officers have been patrolling the
school and infringement notices have been issued recently.
NAPLAN
In May 2019 the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be completed by all students in
Years 3 and 5. NAPLAN will assess the literacy and numeracy learning of all students in all Australian Schools.
The results of the tests will provide important information to schools about what each student can do and will be used to
support teaching and learning programs. Parents will receive a report indicating their child’s level of achievement and will
be able to compare their child’s performance against the national minimum standards.
If you would like to discuss your child’s participation in the NAPLAN program please make an appointment to discuss with
me prior to Friday 22nd
March.
Capital Works
Lismore Public School is currently having rooves repaired throughout the school. Stage 3 students have been moved to
alternate classrooms for the next three weeks to allow the work to occur. Whilst this will cause some disruption students
will continue to complete their regular school work during this time. Over the next couple of months scaffolding will move to
other blocks in the school and classes will be relocated as required.
Whilst the scaffolding is in its current position there will be no access through the top gate from Dibbs street. Breakfast will
continue to operate in the grassed area in front of the support classrooms. Sandwiches, fruit, milk and juice will be offered.
Bikes and scooters will be stored in Mr Hoskins shed.
We appreciate your understanding whilst these works are happening. Whilst it is inconvenient in the short term there will
be long term gains as a result.
Have a wonderful week!!

Get involved in the School Banking program.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2019 are:
· Scented Stackable Highlighters
· Snowy Origami Set
· Icicle Slapband Ruler
· Yeti Fluffly Notepad
· Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring
· Scratch Art Cards
· Water Skimming Bounce Ball
· Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
