Term 4 – Week 6 – 19th November 2019 Principal’s Message Our School Leaders and SRC students did an exemplary job in representing Hamilton Public School at the recent Remembrance Day services at both Gregson Park and New Lambton. Jessica and Jess performed their duties perfectly with the laying of wreath and Eleanor tolled our school bell. The choir also made a special contribution with the beautiful singing of the National Anthem. I must commend our SRC students who did an outstanding job standing still and in silence so respectfully for half an hour while the service was on. It was so rewarding to have members of the public come up and comment on how impressive our students were. On the other side of town, Zoe and Ace represented our school at the Lambton-New Lambton RSL Sub-Branch Ceremony. By all reports, it was a beautiful intimate service held indoors in which our students conducted themselves perfectly once again. Thank you everyone, we are so proud of each of you. Special Assemblies – Sports Awards and Leadership Speeches We have two very important assemblies coming up. On Thursday 5 th December at 9.15am we will be listening to our Year 5 students present their speeches as part of their leadership campaign for a position in the 2020 School Executive. Parents are invited to attend this assembly, which will commence at 9.15am. We wish all students the very best of luck and thank them for pursuing these service positions. Our 2019 School Sport Awards Presentation Assembly will be held on the same day, the 5 th December commencing at 2.00pm in the Performance Centre. Students will be recognised in the areas of swimming and athletics and awards will be presented for the Champion House and Sportsperson of the Year. We have invited Boyd Conrick to be a guest speaker at the Sports Awards Presentation and we are very much looking forward to having him address the assembly.

Term 4 – Week 6 – 19th November 2019

Principal’s Message Our School Leaders and SRC students did an exemplary job in representing Hamilton Public School at the recent Remembrance Day services at both Gregson Park and New Lambton.

Special Assemblies – Sports Awards and Leadership Speeches

We have two very important assemblies coming up. Parents are invited to attend this assembly, which will commence at 9.15am. We wish all students the very best of luck and thank them for pursuing these service positions.

Our 2019 School Sport Awards Presentation Assembly will be held on the same day, the 5th December commencing at 2.00pm in the Performance Centre. Students will be recognised in the areas of swimming and athletics and awards will be presented for the Champion House and Sportsperson of the Year. I am looking forward to participating in our Rainbow Run this coming Friday. If any parents are coming along to participate it would be great if you could bring along a bucket of water or spray bottles or water guns to wet the students, as they are running the course. Water restrictions mean that we cannot use hoses after 10.00am and consequently the fire brigade will not be able to attend. So please fill up any bottles in the morning and bring them along to join in the fun. Is is forecasted to be a hot day so please pack your child 2 bottles of water for the day. Thank you all so very much for supporting this fundraiser as the funds will greatly benefit the resources we can offer the students. See you there!

Warmest regards Meredith Lindsay Children’s University Congratulations to Harry, Jessica, Sam, Scarlett and Zoe who presented engaging and interesting presentations this week. All of these students should be very proud of themselves. They challenged themselves by going out of their comfort zone and speaking in front of an unfamiliar audience of students, teachers and parents. Their presentations were all very well organised and prepared. Also, a big thank you to Craig Sparks and Mairead Wade who provided the students with positive and constructive feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to support these students. Tracey Cresnar

Parent Portal Our Sentral Parent Portal is now up and running, and whilst we have had some slight teething issues, which we are working on fixing, it has proven to be a valuable source of information for parents. Newsletters are uploaded fortnightly and easily accessible, as are other important school documents, including end of year student reports, which will be published in Week 9. The Portal also allows for easy communication with your child’s teacher. This will be a tool, which we will continue to develop and add to. If you are yet to sign up and need assistance, or a new family specific code, please let us know. We appreciate the feedback we have already received.

STUDENT FUNDRAISERS THIS TERM Soul Café What is the Soul Cafe? The Soul Cafe provides hundreds of free meals per week to highly disadvantaged members of our community and in the Newcastle region, many of whom are homeless. I've taken it upon myself to set up a fundraiser for Soul Cafe through our school. You may be able to assist us by donating non-perishable food items towards the holiday food hampers in your child's classroom. In each room (office also) there is a box covered in Christmas wrapping paper where you or your child can put in one of the non-perishable items on the list. The list includes anything canned (baked beans, spaghetti soup tinned fruit), instant noodle cups, bottled water, lollies or chips (packeted) and canned soft drink. This fundraiser will run until the 11th of December. In addition, in December, we have invited a representative to come in from Soul Cafe to talk to the children at assembly about the cafe. Stay tuned for day and time!

I highly recommend that you come along to the morning assembly as well to hear a little about it. I would really enjoy it if you could donate before we deliver the items on December 11th.

Kind regards, Ava-Grace 5/6F

Koala Hospital – Bushfire Appeal Attention all students and teachers!

There will be a Crazy Socks Day on Monday 2nd December, to fundraise for the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. Due to the severe bushfires lately, many koalas have died and koalas with burnt paws or other injuries have been taken there. On Crazy Socks Day, please wear your craziest socks, or if you don't have any, please don't buy them, wear odd socks instead. There will be a prize for the funkiest socks in each stage and there will be a prize for the teachers... And don't forget to bring along a gold-coin donation, thank you! Jess W. 5/6F

Swimming Carnival We are holding our whole school swimming carnival on Monday 9th December, at Lambton Pool. Notes and payment ($10.00) is due on Monday 2nd December. The results from this carnival will be submitted to the primary region for zone representation in early 2020 (mid February). If your child would like to compete in the Medley or 100m Freestyle please register your child for this event at the office by Monday 2nd December.

If you are able to assist on the day (time keeping etc), please let the office know. We do appreciate any help, as it does allow students to be more active. A program will be in the next Newsletter (Week 8).

Kellie Smith - Carnival organiser Nature News Late last term, we were excited to receive an old shipping rope that was destined for landfill for our nature play and loose parts play spaces. The rope has been cut down from its 90 metre length to shorter pieces for the children to create, carry, pull and play with.

The rope came from the David Allen dredge, which has been working in Newcastle Harbour for 160 years. Unlike other natural deep harbours Newcastle needs to constantly dredge to keep the harbour deep enough for all types of ships to enter. Thanks crew!

Mali, Noushy and Aula helped to get, store and cut the rope. Mali was lucky enough to have a personal tour of the large ship and sat in the captain’s seat!

Keep your eyes out for the incorporation of this ‘tiger’ rope in play at HPS!!
