PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Wonderful week 4 already!

Swimming

Congratulations to those swimmers who have made

it to district for swimming this Friday. Please make

sure that you have your notes in as soon as possible

and are at school early on Friday morning if you are

travelling on the school bus.

Strategic Directions

Our wonderful staff have been working on our 2020

school plan and are looking at all of the fantastic

opportunities we can offer our students. If you know

of something that is happening around town that

would benefit our students, please let us know.

Presentation Day

At the end of last year, we held our presentation

day, congratulations again to all of our students on

your behaviour and attendance on the day. The

event was greatly attended and we would welcome

any feedback you have on our running of

presentation day during school hours, as was the

case in 2019. Please feel free to give the lovely

ladies in the office a call if you have any

suggestions on how we can continue to improve this

event.

School Gates

Please be advised that our bottom school gate

(closest to the highway) and the second gate along

will be locked during the day for student safety. The

main visitor gate remains unlocked. Please ensure

you visit the office to sign in if you are on site.

Hampers

Due to the kindness of Ashcroft’s IGA shoppers in

Orange, we have a hamper available for each

family. Please come to the front office and see one

of the office staff to collect.

your children about this is greatly appreciated.

Please contact me at school if you have any

SECONDARY NEWS

Welcome to Week 4.

WAP Camp 2020

Thank you to all of our wonderful students and

course coordinators who presented sessions at the

Western Access Program camp held at Burrendong

Sport and Recreation Centre last week. Feedback

from students was that they had some fantastic

learning sessions and were very tired when they

arrived back. Thanks must go to Mrs Stanford and

her organising team for a well-run and enjoyable

camp.

Shoe Reminder

Just a reminder to secondary students that you need

to ensure that you have enclosed leather shoes for

science and technology subjects. This is a WHS

requirement. Students are encouraged to wear their

correct shoes to school and bring their joggers for

when they have PE. For students studying

Agriculture and Primary Industries in stages 4 – 6

students need to ensure that they also have a hat for

practical lessons.

ENGLISH FACULTY REPORT

Stage 4 English

This term in English we are focusing on Gender

Stereotyping in Advertising and students have been

working on their understanding of what the media

tells us we should look like and whether that is

actually what we think as individuals.

One of the activities we completed early on in this

topic was to, in boy and girl groups, come up with a

picture, words and phrases that make up what we

are told is the ideal ‘man’ or ‘woman’.

All students really engaged with this activity,

showing some very clear understandings and quite

informed discussions were held from that

understanding. I cannot wait to delve into this topic

more with this great group of kids!

Courtney Foley

Secondary English Teacher

Stage 5 English

Stage 5 English are currently studying a unit on

documentaries. Throughout the term, they will

examine how documentaries represent the world

around us through point-of-view and a variety of

film and visual language techniques.

As an introductory activity, students had to create

their own mini nature documentary and I think it is

safe to say that all students had a lot of fun! They

had to come up with their own imaginary animal

and improvise that animal’s behaviour in the wild,

while ‘David Attenborough’ narrated in the

background. Term 1 in English at Tullamore

Central School is off to a flying start! –

Ben Knight.

Secondary English Teacher

Stage 6

Access Camp

Last week all Stage 6 English classes attended

sessions at Lake Burrendong. Congratulations to all

students on demonstrating their mature and

committed approach during these sessions with their

Stage 6 English course coordinators! As always,

Access camp is a fantastic opportunity for students

to engage with hands on learning with their peers

and teachers.

Year 11 English Studies

This term English Studies students are doing the

English in Education, Work and Community topic.

The aim of this topic is to prepare students for life

outside of school by helping learn how to write an

effective resume and cover letter, and organise their

resources and money in the real world.

Year 11 Drama

So far this term, Drama students have been in the

process of learning about the ways in which you can

perform. One of those ways of method acting is

called improvisation – where you make up the scene

as you go. It is safe to say we have been having a lot

of fun! Here you can witness a zookeeper trying to

catch an escaped elephant… with a bucket?

Courtney Foley

Secondary English Teacher

Year 11 English Standard

Throughout term, Year 11 English Standard

students are investigating the relationship between

reading and writing and how this relationship

impacts on their everyday lives. One of the

components of this unit is to encourage students to

read as widely as possible so that their writing can

become increasingly sophisticated and nuanced.

The class has set themselves a reading challenge,

started a reading journal, and borrowed some books

from our library! I was impressed to see the

enthusiastic way all students have approached their

learning so far!

Year 12 English Standard

This term Year 12 English Standard have been

studying a variety of short texts to build on their

repertoire of skills and knowledge in the craft of

writing. Students are enjoying the opportunity to

take inspiration from a variety of quality texts from

literature to compose their own discursive and

imaginative texts.

AGRICULTURE IN ACTION

Wanted – Cans & Bottles

As part of our fundraising for the Agriculture

program, we will be collecting the 10c return cans

and bottles. No need to sort them, as we will do

this! Cans and bottles can be dropped in to the

Agriculture plot area where there are two bins

labelled Cans and Plastic Bottles and Glass Bottles.

Show Team Practices

Permission notes will go out this week for students

in the junior and senior show squads. The first show

for 2020 is Bathurst Royal Show, which will be in

the April school holidays. Information about this

will go out soon for senior squad.

Natasha Shankelton

Agriculture Teacher

SPORT

Please refer to Term at a Glance for upcoming

sporting events.

District Swimming

Best of luck to all our students heading off to the

district swimming in Narromine this Friday. There

will be Gobondery/NARRAF polo shirts available

for $25.00 on the day.

Pool Sport

Primary students will not be at the pool for sport

this week. Students will participate in regular sport

at school instead.

Cassie Hinchley

Sports Coordinator

It has been great to see so many students already

borrowing books and reading this term!

The primary students have allocated borrowing time

during class and students are welcome to borrow

and return books during lunch times when the

library is open.

Please remember to bring a library bag to keep

books protected. Spare library bags are available if

required.

A few reminders

* Due to the amount of missing/damaged books last

year, we unfortunately are going to have to ask

parents to reimburse the school or replace copies of

books. In other schools, this is common practice.

* If you know a book has been lost or damaged,

please let us know as we still have some outstanding

from last year.

* The library is a drink and food free zone.

* The library is open at lunch Mondays, Tuesdays,

Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Have a lovely week
