PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Welcome back for Term Three at Hillsborough Public School. I would also like to welcome back Mrs Alison Miller who is back with us three days a week. Mrs Miller will lead Stage Two and will team teach 3/4M alongside Miss Lucy McWhirter. We ended last term on a very posiƟve note with our NAIDOC Day celebraƟon. This was a fantasƟc event involving students in a variety of cultural learning acƟviƟes and culminaƟng in a Corroboree style gathering where, presenƟng Aboriginal cultural tradiƟons, our students exchanged giŌs they had created and then enjoyed a celebraƟon of dance and music with performances by our Cultural Dance group and the Choir. Thank you to all those parents and community members who joined us on the day, your help and support were much appreciated. Thank you to our NAIDOC Day commiƩee Miss Ridgeway, Mrs Dubojski, Mrs van NeƩen and Mrs Mullan and to the many students who contributed so much to this day. Monday night our Dance group performed at the Hunter Dance FesƟval. This was the culminaƟon of many, many weeks of hard work and dedicaƟon and it really paid oin what was an excellent performance. I would also like to acknowledge the group for their outstanding behaviour and aƫtude. Having spent some Ɵme back stage I was very impressed by how well our students conducted themselves. I also want to recognise and thank Mrs Cambourn who has been responsible for all the organisaƟon and preparaƟon that goes into a major event like this, I would also like to thank Mr Hanson for his support. A wonderful beginning of term for our Sports teams too with great performances on the Sports elds by our Girls’ Cricket team, our Girls’ Soccer team, our Netball team and our Basketball squad. CongratulaƟons to all those involved and thank you to Mrs Pike, Miss Ridgeway, Mrs Aylie, Mr Hill and all our parents and carers who have helped out with these events. CongratulaƟons go to all our students who presented their speeches in class compeƟƟons in recent weeks. This week I had the privilege and very dicult task of selecƟng just two winners from each Stage to represent Hillsborough PS at the upcoming Zone Finals. As those lucky enough to aƩend the compeƟƟon will aƩest, the quality of our young speakers was incredibly high. Our school representaƟves are Kai and Cru in Early Stage One, Raya and Vesper in Stage One, Callan and Nicholas in Stage Two and Mia and Elise in Stage Three. We wish them all the best for the upcoming nals. Just a reminder that we are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2018. If you know anyone in our community with a child who will be starƟng school next year, please let them know a call to our Oce is all they need to secure a place in our wonderful Kindergarten classrooms next year.
