PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back for Term Three at Hillsborough Public School. I would also like to welcome back Mrs Alison Miller who is back with us three days a week. Mrs Miller will lead Stage Two and will team teach 3/4M alongside Miss Lucy McWhirter.
We ended last term on a very posi ve note with our NAIDOC Day celebra on. This was a fantas c event involving students in a variety of cultural learning ac vi es and culmina ng in a Corroboree style gathering where, presen ng Aboriginal cultural tradi ons, our students exchanged gi s they had created and then enjoyed a celebra on of dance and music with performances by our Cultural Dance group and the Choir. Thank you to all those parents and community members who joined us on the day, your help and support were much appreciated. Thank you to our NAIDOC Day commi ee Miss Ridgeway, Mrs Dubojski, Mrs van Ne en and Mrs Mullan and to the many students who contributed so much to this day.
Monday night our Dance group performed at the Hunter Dance Fes val. This was the culmina on of many, many weeks of hard work and dedica on and it really paid off in what was an excellent performance. I would also like to acknowledge the group for their outstanding behaviour and a tude. Having spent some me back stage I was very impressed by how well our students conducted themselves. I also want to recognise and thank Mrs Cambourn who has been responsible for all the organisa on and prepara on that goes into a major event like this, I would also like to thank Mr Hanson for his support.
A wonderful beginning of term for our Sports teams too with great performances on the Sports fields by our Girls’ Cricket team, our Girls’ Soccer team, our Netball team and our Basketball squad. Congratula ons to all those involved and thank you to Mrs Pike, Miss Ridgeway, Mrs Ayliffe, Mr Hill and all our parents and carers who have helped out with these events.
Congratula ons go to all our students who presented their speeches in class compe ons in recent weeks. This week I had the privilege and very difficult task of selec ng just two winners from each Stage to represent Hillsborough PS at the upcoming Zone Finals. As those lucky enough to a end the compe on will a est, the quality of our young speakers was incredibly high. Our school representa ves are Kai and Cru in Early Stage One, Raya and Vesper in Stage One, Callan and Nicholas in Stage Two and Mia and Elise in Stage Three. We wish them all the best for the upcoming finals.
Just a reminder that we are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2018. If you know anyone in our community with a child who will be star ng school next year, please let them know a call to our Office is all they need to secure a place in our wonderful Kindergarten classrooms next year.
